Chrome on a Mac can capture an entire webpage without an extension. Open the page, press Command–Option–I to open DevTools, press Command–Shift–P, type screenshot, then choose Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome downloads one image containing content below the visible viewport.
What a full-page screenshot does
A normal macOS screenshot records only the pixels currently visible on your display. Chrome DevTools’ full-size command instead captures the complete rendered page, including sections you would reach by scrolling. The result is an image file downloaded through Chrome’s usual download behavior.
This is useful for archiving an article, reviewing a landing page, sharing a long design, or documenting a page state. It is not the same as printing a page: print-to-PDF creates a document, while this command creates a tall image.
Capture the whole webpage in Chrome on Mac
- Open the page. Navigate to the webpage in Google Chrome on macOS and wait for the initial content to appear.
- Open DevTools. Press Command–Option–I. Alternatively, right-click the page and select Inspect.
- Focus DevTools. The command menu shortcut works when DevTools has focus. Click inside the DevTools pane if necessary.
- Open the command menu. Press Command–Shift–P.
- Find the capture command. Type
screenshot. If several results appear, search forfull size screenshot. - Run it. Select Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome renders the page beyond the viewport and downloads the resulting image.
The exact command wording matters. Choose Capture a full size screenshot, not the ordinary viewport screenshot, if you need content below the fold.

Prepare the page before capturing
A full-page capture reflects what Chrome has rendered at that moment. Preparation prevents missing sections, blank image areas, and inconsistent results.
Wait for lazy content
Scroll through the page once, or pause long enough for lazy-loaded images, embedded sections, and other deferred content to load. If you capture immediately, elements that have not rendered yet may be absent from the image.
Close overlays you do not want
Dismiss newsletter dialogs, cookie notices, chat panels, and other overlays when the clean page is the goal. A dialog visible during capture can appear in the output even if it covers only part of the viewport.
Set the page state
Expand accordions, open tabs, or apply filters before starting the command if those states are part of the record you need. The screenshot captures the rendered state, not every possible state of an interactive control.

Check the page length
Very long pages produce very tall images. They can be difficult to print, email, or inspect at normal zoom. For a document-oriented deliverable, use Chrome’s print-to-PDF workflow instead; that creates a PDF rather than a screenshot.

Where the file goes
Chrome saves the image using its normal download behavior. The exact folder depends on your Chrome download settings. If you do not see the file, open Chrome’s downloads interface and use the option to show it in Finder, or check the download location configured in Chrome settings.
When “Capture a full size screenshot” is missing
- DevTools is not focused: click inside DevTools, then press Command–Shift–P again.
- Too many search results: type
full size screenshotrather than onlyscreenshot. - The shortcut does nothing: open DevTools from Chrome’s menu or with right-click Inspect, then open the command menu from inside DevTools.
- The label differs: Chrome’s labels and shortcut behavior can change between releases. Use the command palette and search for the full-size screenshot action instead of relying on the shortcut alone.
- DevTools closed: reopen it and repeat the sequence; the command is provided by DevTools, not by the regular page context menu.
Dynamic pages and incomplete captures
Pages that continue changing while they render require extra care. Wait for images and embedded sections to finish loading before opening the command menu. If a page adds content as you scroll, make at least one pass down the page so those sections are requested and rendered. Then return to the top if needed and run Capture a full size screenshot.
Some content is intentionally interactive, personalized, or loaded only after an action. A single full-page image cannot show every state. Capture separate states when you need a record of an opened menu, expanded panel, or selected filter.
Built-in capture versus a Chrome extension
Chrome’s DevTools command is the simplest choice for an occasional, clean full-page image. An extension can be more convenient when you repeat the task or need editing and export controls.
| Consideration | Chrome DevTools | GoFullPage extension |
|---|---|---|
| Installation | No extension installation; DevTools is included with Chrome. | Requires installing and maintaining an extension. |
| Best for | One-off captures and a built-in workflow. | Repeated captures and one-click access. |
| Editing and annotation | Not the focus of the built-in command; edit the downloaded image separately. | Provides additional capture and export conveniences documented in its Chrome Web Store listing. |
| Very long or dynamic pages | Wait for lazy content and changing sections before capture. | Also depends on how the page renders; review the extension’s current behavior for your Chrome release. |
| Privacy | Uses Chrome’s built-in DevTools workflow. | Review the extension’s permissions and privacy terms before installing. |
| Maintenance | Behavior follows your installed Chrome release. | The GoFullPage listing documents ongoing fixes and improvements, including scrollbar handling, capture behavior, dialogs, and exports through September 2026. |
For a single page, try DevTools first. Consider an extension when repeated captures, annotation, or one-click operation outweigh the extra installation and permission review.

Privacy and sensitive pages
The screenshot contains whatever the page rendered, including account names, private messages, billing details, or tokens displayed in the interface. Review the image before sharing it. If the page includes confidential information, store the file in an appropriate location and avoid uploading it to an unrelated service.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need screenshots in a script, build pipeline, or AI workflow, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. It can accept cookie or consent banners as a visitor and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be disabled.

Troubleshooting checklist
The screenshot is only the visible viewport
You probably selected the regular viewport capture. Reopen the command menu and choose Capture a full size screenshot.
Images or sections are blank
Wait for lazy-loaded content and embedded components, then capture again. Scroll through the page once if content loads only when it approaches the viewport.
A popup covers the page
Close the popup before invoking the command. If it reappears, complete the site’s dismissal or consent action and retry.
The result is too tall to use
Use print-to-PDF for a document layout, or capture smaller logical sections separately. A full-page screenshot is a single image and does not automatically paginate.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I capture a full webpage in Chrome on Mac without an extension?
Yes. DevTools includes the Capture a full size screenshot command, opened with Command-Option-I followed by Command-Shift-P.
What is the difference between a viewport screenshot and a full-size screenshot?
A viewport screenshot contains only what is visible in the browser window. A full-size screenshot includes rendered content below the viewport in one image.
Why is my full-page image missing content near the bottom?
The page may use lazy loading or content that appears only during scrolling. Let the page finish rendering and scroll through it once before capturing.
Is a full-page screenshot the same as a PDF?
No. The DevTools command downloads an image. Chrome’s print-to-PDF workflow creates a paginated PDF document instead.
