Save the result, then inspect the bottom and any interactive sections before sharing it.
Capture the entire page in your browser
A complete website screenshot includes content below the current window, rather than only the viewport you can see. The exact command depends on your browser.
Firefox: Save full page
- Open the page you want to save.
- Right-click the page on Windows, or use a two-finger tap on a Mac trackpad.
- Choose Take Screenshot.
- Select Save full page.
- Use the preview to check the bottom of the document, then download the image or copy it to the clipboard.
Firefox also exposes the same capability in Developer Tools. To add the button, open Developer Tools, open its Settings, find Available Toolbox Buttons, and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page. Clicking that button saves the capture to your Downloads folder.

:screenshot --fullpageFirefox’s helper can also accept a delay, device-pixel ratio, filename, clipboard destination, and CSS selector. If you capture repeatedly with the same filename, the new image overwrites the previous one, so choose a unique name for each run.
Microsoft Edge: Web Capture
- Open the page in Edge.
- Open the Settings and more menu and choose Web Capture, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Select Capture full page, not the selected-area option.
- Review the result, then save or copy it. Edge also allows annotation before you save.
Microsoft notes that Web Capture’s availability and functionality can vary by device, market, and browser version. If the menu or shortcut is missing, update Edge and check the command in the menu instead of relying on the keyboard shortcut.
Chrome: Capture full size screenshot
- Open Developer Tools: press Command+Option+I on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows.
- Open the command menu with Command+Shift+P on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows.
- Search for screenshot.
- Choose Capture full size screenshot.
- Chrome saves the image to Downloads; open it and verify that the final section is present.
Chrome’s result can depend on the page. A secondary guide updated April 20, 2026 reports that some web applications, including its Google Docs example, captured only the visible window while ordinary pages captured their full length. Treat the command as an attempt, not a guarantee for every app.
Safari: avoid assuming an unverified shortcut
There is no current primary Apple instruction in the available material that verifies a Safari full-page screenshot workflow. Safari users who need a dependable result should open the same URL in Firefox, Edge, or Chrome and use that browser’s documented full-page command. If Safari is mandatory, confirm the steps in current Apple documentation for your exact macOS and Safari versions before relying on the image.

Before clicking Capture, decide what “complete” means for your task:

- Full page: the whole document, including content below the fold.
- Visible area: only the current viewport; this is not a complete webpage screenshot.
- Selected area: a rectangle you draw, useful for a diagram or one section.
- Single element: one component such as a table or hero panel. Firefox’s Developer Tools supports this option through its screenshot helper.
- Clipboard versus file: copy when you need to paste into a document immediately; download when you need an archiveable PNG or another file.
For a page that loads more content as you scroll, wait for the content to appear before starting the capture. A full-page command cannot include sections that the page has not yet rendered.
Check that the screenshot is actually complete
Never assume that a successful download means every part of the page is present. Use this checklist:
- Open the image at 100% or fit-to-window and inspect its bottom edge.
- Compare the screenshot with the page’s navigation, headings, footer, and any expected section count.
- Look for blank bands where an application failed to render or where lazy images were never loaded.
- Check interactive pages separately. Editors, dashboards, and infinite-scroll feeds may expose only the currently rendered portion.
- Confirm that a cookie dialog, newsletter form, or chat widget has not covered important content.
- Record the URL and capture time if the image is being used for documentation or an incident record.
When the built-in command fails
The image stops at the viewport
You probably selected a visible-area command, or the page is an application that does not expose its complete document to the browser’s screenshot routine. Repeat with the exact full-page option. If the result is still short, use Firefox’s Developer Tools helper or an automated capture service.
Images or lower sections are blank
Lazy-loaded media may require scrolling before it exists in the page. Scroll through the document once, wait for images to finish, and capture again. For highly dynamic pages, use a tool that explicitly supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded.
A popup or consent banner obscures the page
Close the dialog before capturing. If it returns on every visit, clear the choice in the page’s consent controls or use a capture service that accepts the banner as a visitor and removes known consent platforms before the screenshot.
Chrome captures only part of an application
This behavior is page-dependent, particularly for web applications. Try Firefox or Edge for a second result and compare the files. If you need a repeatable automated result, capture the page through an API and inspect its page-verdict header.

Firefox overwrites an earlier image
The Web Console helper reuses a filename unless you provide another one. Add a unique filename for each capture so a later run cannot replace the earlier file.
The browser becomes slow or runs out of memory
Very long pages create a large bitmap. Close unnecessary tabs, allow the page to finish loading, and capture at a lower device-pixel ratio when the tool provides that setting. If the document is exceptionally long, consider a PDF or a server-side capture rather than one enormous image.

You can control the capture without opening a browser:
- Full-page mode with lazy images loaded, or one element selected by CSS selector.
- Dark mode, 12 device presets, arbitrary viewport sizes, and retina scale.
- PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF with paper size, margins, landscape orientation, and page ranges.
