The safest way to cancel residential Spectrum Internet is to call 855-757-7328 or send hardcopy written notice to Spectrum, 2 Digital Place, Floor 4, Simpsonville, SC 29681. Spectrum’s current residential terms say cancellation takes effect after Spectrum receives the request—not necessarily when you decide to cancel. Ask for the exact disconnect date, check your billing-cycle end date first, return every leased device and power supply, and keep receipts or tracking records. Do not assume your final month will be prorated.
What to do before contacting Spectrum
A few minutes of preparation can prevent the most common post-cancellation disputes. Gather your latest statement, account number, service address, the billing-cycle dates shown on the statement, and a list of every Spectrum-owned device in your home. If another person is the account holder, have that person make the request or be available for account verification.

- Write down the date you want service to stop and the last day of the current monthly subscription period.
- List every leased item, including the modem, router, receiver, auxiliary equipment and each supplied power adapter.

Option 1: Call Spectrum
Call 855-757-7328 and state clearly that you are terminating residential Internet service. During the call, ask the representative to confirm:

- The date and time Spectrum records your request as received.
- The effective disconnect date.
- Whether any other service on the account, such as voice or television, is also being terminated.
- Which equipment Spectrum expects back.
- How and when the final statement will be issued.
- The confirmation or reference number for the request.
A call gives you an opportunity to resolve account questions immediately, but a verbal conversation is easy to misremember. Write down the representative’s name or identification number if provided, the time of the call and every date or amount discussed. Keep the call confirmation with your statement and equipment receipt.
Option 2: Send hardcopy written notice
Spectrum’s residential terms list this address for termination notices:

The terms require hardcopy written notice and say the request is effective after Spectrum receives it. Use a delivery method that gives you a delivery record. Keep a complete copy of the signed letter, the mailing receipt and the delivery confirmation.

- Your name as it appears on the account.
- The Spectrum account number, if available.
- The complete service address.
- A direct statement that you are terminating residential Spectrum Internet service.
- The date you want service to end.
- A request for written confirmation of the effective disconnect date.
- Your current contact information for final-billing questions.
The published terms specify the notice method but do not prescribe a mandatory letter form. Including identifying information is a practical way to help Spectrum match the notice to the correct account.
Is online cancellation enough?
Spectrum’s support material directs customers to sign in to view cancellation options. The public information available does not establish that an online action by itself completes cancellation in every case. For a documented request, use the phone number or hardcopy-notice method listed in the residential terms, and obtain confirmation of receipt and the effective date even if you begin online.

How to avoid another monthly charge
The key date is the end of your current monthly subscription period, not simply the day you stop using the connection. Spectrum’s terms state: “Unless Subscriber cancels Service on or before the last day of the current monthly subscription service period, Subscriber will be charged in full for Services for the next monthly subscription service period.” The terms also describe responsibility for the full monthly subscription charge when service ends before the period is complete, subject to restrictions under applicable law and the terms’ exceptions.
Use your statement to plan the request
- Find the billing period or subscription dates on your latest statement.
- Compare the period’s final day with your intended disconnect date.
- Contact Spectrum early enough that the request will be received by the relevant deadline.
- Ask the representative to read back the effective date and explain how the date relates to your billing period.
- Save the confirmation.
Do not promise yourself a prorated refund. Whether a credit applies depends on the account, the billing dates and any applicable legal or contractual exception. The public terms do not establish a blanket prorated-refund rule.
Why stopping use is not the same as cancelling
Unplugging the modem, moving to another provider or simply declining to use the service does not document a cancellation request. Until Spectrum receives a valid request and processes the disconnect, recurring service can continue under the account’s terms. Submit the request through a documented channel and obtain the effective date.

What the final Spectrum bill can contain
Spectrum says the final statement is issued in the next billing cycle. It can include outstanding charges, and you remain responsible for legitimate balances. If equipment is still recorded as unreturned, Spectrum says another statement may arrive later.

Keep the final statement, payment confirmation and equipment documentation together until the account shows a zero balance or Spectrum confirms that no further amount is due. If a charge appears wrong, contact Spectrum with the cancellation confirmation and return receipt in front of you, and request an itemized explanation.
Return every leased device and power supply
Spectrum warns that unreturned leased equipment may be charged to the account. The company’s instructions identify modems, routers, receivers and auxiliary equipment as examples of items that may need to be returned. Return the supplied power supplies with the applicable devices.
Three return methods

Do not throw away old, damaged or nonworking Spectrum equipment. Spectrum’s return guidance directs customers to take such equipment to a Spectrum Store or The UPS Store. A device that no longer works can still be listed as leased on the account.
Special rule for Spectrum Fiber
If your service uses Spectrum Fiber, follow the separate instruction for the Spectrum Optical Network Unit (SONU). Spectrum says not to return the SONU or its universal power supply cord. The unit must remain plugged in and operational at the premises. This exception does not eliminate the need to return other leased equipment, so verify the item list with Spectrum.

Hawaii equipment returns
Spectrum’s post-disconnection guidance says Hawaii has a different equipment-return process. Customers in Hawaii should follow the dedicated local instructions rather than assume that the general Store, UPS Store or home-kit procedure applies.
Build an item-by-item return record
- Photograph each device and its label or serial number before handing it over.
- Photograph the associated power supply and note which device it belongs to.
- Compare your list with the equipment receipt or shipping record.
- Keep the dated receipt or tracking result until the final statement and any later equipment review are complete.
- If Spectrum says an item is missing, provide the receipt, tracking number and photographs and ask for the account’s equipment record to be corrected.
Spectrum states that an unreturned-equipment fee may apply, but the official material does not state one universal amount. The amount, if any, can depend on the account and the equipment record.

Spectrum says email access continues for 60 days after Internet disconnection. Treat that as a transition period, not permanent access.
- Sign in to the Spectrum mailbox and export messages you need to retain.
- Export or copy contacts.
- Search the mailbox for password resets, bills, receipts, tax records and account notices.
- Change the email address on important services, including financial accounts, health portals, employment systems, subscriptions and social accounts.
- Update recovery addresses and two-factor-authentication settings before the 60-day period ends.
- Tell people and organizations that still use the old address how to reach you.
If your account includes voice service, Spectrum says voicemail access ends on the disconnection date. Save any needed messages before service is disconnected.

Several days before the request
- Read the statement and identify the current subscription period.
- Inventory devices, accessories and power supplies.
- Back up email and begin changing account logins.
- Choose a cancellation channel and a return method.
On the cancellation date
- Call 855-757-7328 or send the hardcopy notice to the Simpsonville address.
- State the intended effective date and ask when Spectrum records receipt.
- Obtain confirmation and record all details.
By the disconnect date
- Save voicemail if applicable.
- Stop relying on the Spectrum connection for critical work or security codes.
- Return equipment using one of Spectrum’s listed methods, unless the Fiber SONU exception applies.
During the next billing cycle
- Watch for the final statement.
- Compare its charges with your confirmation and billing period.
- Pay legitimate balances by the due date.
- Keep monitoring for an additional statement related to equipment.
Common problems and how to resolve them
Spectrum says it never received the cancellation
Provide the call confirmation, written-notice copy, delivery record or other proof showing when the request was received. Ask Spectrum to review the account notes and state the effective date in writing.
A full additional month appears on the bill
Compare the charge with the subscription-period end date and the date Spectrum received your request. The terms allow a full charge when cancellation is not made by the last day of the current period. If you believe the date or application of the terms is wrong, request an itemized review and document the response.
An equipment charge appears after return
Use the dated Store receipt or shipping tracking record to show what was returned and when. Ask Spectrum to match each serial number or item description to the account. Keep paying or disputing according to the statement’s instructions while the review is pending; do not discard the proof.
You cannot find one of the devices
Review closets, television cabinets, guest rooms and any location where a technician may have installed auxiliary equipment. Ask Spectrum for the complete equipment list rather than relying only on memory. The account record determines what Spectrum expects back.
You moved to another provider but did not contact Spectrum
Switching providers does not itself establish that Spectrum received a termination request. Submit the documented request immediately, ask for the effective date and review the next statement for charges through that date.
