Cancel through the company that charged you. PlayStation Store and Xbox Store digital pre-orders are governed by their respective platform policies. A physical pre-order bought from the Rockstar Store uses Xsolla’s cancellation process, while any other physical order must be cancelled with the retailer that sold it. Rockstar cannot cancel an order placed with another retailer.
Before you submit a request, identify the seller, confirm whether the order is digital or a physical code-in-box edition, check your country’s rules, and avoid downloading, pre-loading, or streaming included content until you know whether that affects eligibility.

Find the right refund authority first
The merchant shown on your payment receipt is the starting point. Rockstar Games Customer Support states that “Physical pre-order cancellations are handled by the retailer where you purchased the game” (June 26, 2026). If your bank or card statement names PlayStation, Xbox, Rockstar/Xsolla, or another retailer, contact that seller rather than opening a request with a different company.

Do not treat the Rockstar digital policy as a universal rule for PlayStation, Xbox, or independent retailers. Each storefront’s terms control the transaction it processed.

Check these details before requesting a cancellation
1. Read the receipt and payment record
Locate the confirmation email, order-history entry, or card statement. Record the order number, purchase date, product name, platform, edition, and the seller’s name. Screenshots of the receipt and the order status can help if support asks you to verify ownership.
2. Identify the edition and format
Rockstar’s 2026 store listing describes a $79.99 GTA VI pre-order and a physical code-in-box edition. That box contains a download code, not a game disc. Cancelling and later buying the physical edition therefore still gives you a digital download rather than disc playback.
3. Note your country and the timing
Refund rights differ by country. A policy published for Canada is not automatically applicable to the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, or another market. Write down how many days remain before release and whether the seller has announced a separate pre-order deadline.
4. Check whether digital activity has started
Do not assume that owning a pre-order and downloading a file are treated the same way. PlayStation’s Canadian policy warns that downloading or streaming included digital content can remove cancellation eligibility. Pre-loading is also a download, so check the platform’s current terms before starting it.

- Open PlayStation Support’s order or refund area. Sign in with the account used for the pre-order and open the purchase or transaction in your order history.
- Select the GTA VI pre-order. Verify the product, edition, purchase date, and payment method before submitting anything.
- Choose the pre-order cancellation or refund option offered for your region. The labels and eligibility checks can differ by country.
- State whether any included content was downloaded or streamed. Answer accurately; concealing a download can delay or invalidate the request.
- Submit the request and save the case number. Keep the confirmation email and the original receipt until the refund is completed or the request is resolved.
What the Canadian PlayStation policy says
PlayStation’s Canada cancellation policy, accessed October 17, 2026, says: “Paid for your pre-order more than 14 days before the main product release date you may cancel a pre-order at any time before the release date and receive a refund.” The same policy explains that downloading or streaming digital content can remove eligibility. This language is useful for Canadian accounts only; it should not be presented as a worldwide PlayStation rule.
Apply the dates to GTA VI without assuming eligibility
Rockstar lists digital pre-load as beginning November 12, 2026. Take-Two Interactive announced a November 19, 2026 launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A Canadian customer who paid more than 14 days before November 19 may fall within the quoted timing rule, but downloading or streaming content can still affect the result. Customers in other countries must use their local PlayStation terms.

For an Xbox Store purchase, Rockstar directs customers to Xbox Support. Xbox, not Rockstar, decides whether the account and transaction meet the current regional requirements.
- Open Xbox Support while signed in to the purchasing Microsoft account. Use the order or refund section and locate the GTA VI pre-order.
- Confirm the transaction details. Check the order number, platform, edition, purchase date, and payment method.
- Request a pre-order cancellation or refund assessment. Follow the option presented for your country and account.
- Tell support whether the game or any included material was downloaded, pre-loaded, or streamed. These facts may matter under the applicable Xbox policy.
- Keep the case number and written decision. Do not rely on a general statement that every Xbox pre-order has the same deadline; ask support to identify the rule applied to your account.
No universal Xbox deadline or download rule is established by Rockstar’s referral to Xbox Support. The exact result can vary by country, account, transaction date, and the Xbox policy in force when you apply. Rockstar’s referral to Xbox Support is not a guarantee that a refund will be approved.
How to cancel a Rockstar Store physical code-in-box pre-order
Rockstar’s physical edition is a code-in-box product, not a disc package. For a physical pre-order purchased directly from the Rockstar Store, Rockstar Customer Support says: “If you pre-ordered a physical copy of Grand Theft Auto VI from the Rockstar Store, you can cancel your purchase by following the steps in the link below:” (June 24, 2026).

- Open the Rockstar Store order confirmation. Use the order email or your Rockstar Store account to identify the physical GTA VI order.
- Follow the cancellation link supplied for the order. Rockstar routes these physical-order cancellations through Xsolla.
- Complete Xsolla’s verification and cancellation form. Enter the order information exactly as it appears on the confirmation.
- Save the submission receipt. Keep copies of the confirmation, the cancellation request, and any message showing whether the cancellation was accepted.
This route applies to a physical code-in-box order made through the Rockstar Store. It does not transfer responsibility for a purchase made through another retailer, and it is not the same as the 14-day rule for qualifying digital purchases made through Rockstar-operated stores.

If a store, marketplace, or local game retailer charged you, contact that retailer directly. Use its order-management page, phone support, or customer-service channel shown on your receipt. Provide the order number, purchaser name, product, and requested cancellation date.
Rockstar cannot reverse a third-party retailer transaction. If the retailer shipped the box, supplied the code, or says the order is outside its cancellation window, ask that retailer for its written policy and escalation route. Do not open a Rockstar ticket expecting Rockstar to override the seller’s terms.
When Rockstar’s 14-day digital refund policy applies
Rockstar’s refund policy covers qualifying digital purchases made through the Rockstar Games Store, Rockstar Games Launcher, or a Rockstar-operated PC in-game store. Those purchases are eligible within 14 days, subject to the conditions in the policy.
Included stores
- Rockstar Games Store digital purchases.
- Digital purchases made through Rockstar Games Launcher.
- Purchases from a Rockstar-operated PC in-game store.
Stores not covered by that rule
A PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, or independent retailer transaction follows that seller’s policy. The fact that the product is a Rockstar game does not move the refund authority to Rockstar or create an automatic 14-day entitlement on another platform.

How to prepare the request
- Sign in to the Rockstar account used for the qualifying purchase.
- Locate the transaction in the relevant Rockstar-operated store or launcher history.
- Submit the refund request within 14 days of purchase and provide the order details requested.
- Review the policy conditions before submitting, especially any condition related to use or delivery of the digital product.
- Retain the confirmation until Rockstar issues a decision.
The 14-day period is a policy window, not a promise that every digital transaction will qualify. The policy’s conditions and the transaction record determine the outcome.

Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as the supported pre-order platforms. If your account shows a different platform, verify that you are looking at the correct product and seller before requesting a refund.

Check that you contacted the charging seller
A common failure is sending a PlayStation request to Rockstar, an Xbox request to a retailer, or a third-party physical-order request to Rockstar. Compare the merchant name on the payment record with the support channel you used.
Review download and streaming activity
For PlayStation, confirm whether the console downloaded, pre-loaded, or streamed any included content. If it did, explain exactly what happened and ask support to identify the policy clause that controls the decision.

Verify the country and account
Policies are attached to the account’s market and transaction, not merely to the console’s location. Make sure you are signed into the account that paid and are reading the policy for the country attached to that account.

Ask for a written explanation
When support refuses the request, ask it to state the reason, the relevant deadline, and whether an escalation or appeal path exists. Keep the case number and any email response. A different seller cannot overturn that decision.
Do not assume a pre-load date is a cancellation deadline
November 12 is the listed pre-load start, while November 19 is the announced launch date. Neither date by itself establishes a universal refund deadline. Use the seller’s current policy for your region and transaction.
A practical cancellation checklist
- Identify the merchant that charged your card or account.
- Record the order number, purchase date, edition, platform, and country.
- Determine whether the order is digital or a physical code-in-box package.
- Check whether any download, pre-load, or streaming has begun.
- Use PlayStation Support for PlayStation Store orders.
- Use Xbox Support for Xbox Store orders.
- Use the Xsolla cancellation flow for a physical order bought from the Rockstar Store.
- Contact the original retailer for every other physical order.
- Use Rockstar’s 14-day digital policy only for qualifying Rockstar-operated digital stores.
- Save receipts, screenshots, case numbers, and the final decision.
What happens after an approved cancellation
The seller that approved the request controls the refund method and timing. Keep the order confirmation and monitor the original payment method for the credit. If the seller says the cancellation is complete but the money does not appear, contact that same seller with the approval or case number rather than opening a new request elsewhere.
Because the physical GTA VI edition is a download code in a box, a successful physical-order cancellation does not create a disc-based alternative. If you later buy that edition, you will still redeem a code and download the game on a supported platform.
The shortest correct answer
Start with the seller named on your receipt. PlayStation and Xbox decide their own digital pre-order refunds; Rockstar’s physical Store orders go through Xsolla; every other physical order goes back to the retailer. Check your region, timing, and download activity before submitting, and treat Rockstar’s 14-day digital policy as limited to qualifying Rockstar-operated stores.
