To cancel just one meeting in a recurring Google Calendar series, delete that occurrence and choose This event or Only this instance when prompted. The other meetings in the series will remain. These steps are for Google Calendar on a computer.
Delete only the occurrence you want to cancel
- Open Google Calendar on your computer and select the meeting occurrence you want to remove.
- Choose Delete event.
- When Calendar asks which recurring events to delete, select This event or Only this instance.
- Before confirming, check that the prompt names a single event rather than the following events or the full series.
Google documents these options for recurring events you created or have permission to edit. If someone else created the series, you may not have the recurring-series deletion options.

Choose the right deletion scope

Know what attendees will see
If you are an invitee, removing the event deletes it from your own calendar; it does not cancel the meeting for other invitees. The event owner may need to delete an event they own for it to be removed from everyone’s calendars. If a deleted occurrence remains visible to others, Google notes that removal can take a little while, and device syncing can also delay what appears on other devices. The exact attendee email or notification prompt for deleting one occurrence is not specified in Google’s help instructions.
Restore a deleted occurrence if needed
A deleted occurrence remains in that calendar’s trash for 30 days. Google warns that events removed with This and following events are not moved to the trash and cannot be restored. If you delete occurrences one at a time, each has its own trash row; occurrences deleted together may appear as one row, and restoring that row restores them together.

For Calendar API integrations
In the Google Calendar API, an occurrence is identified by its recurringEventId and originalStartTime. The latter is the occurrence’s scheduled start under the parent recurrence rule and uniquely identifies it within the series, even if the occurrence has been moved. To cancel one occurrence in an API workflow, update that instance rather than treating the parent series as the single meeting.
