Cancelling alone does not immediately remove the block. Apple now calls an Apple ID an Apple Account, although “Apple ID country” remains common wording.
What has to happen before you change country or region
Apple treats a country or region change as more than a profile edit. Your account must be clear of financial and service commitments tied to the current storefront. The critical order is:

- Identify and cancel subscriptions that prevent the move.
- Keep the subscription cancelled and wait until its paid or trial period ends.
- Resolve the other account blockers, such as balance, pending orders, rentals, refunds, or Family Sharing.
- Change the country or region and provide the destination billing information when Apple requests it.
Apple’s country-and-region guidance states:
“Cancel subscriptions that block a country or region change: Cancel any subscriptions that block a country or region change, then wait until the end of the subscription period.”

That waiting period is essential. A subscription can show as cancelled while still remaining active until the date already paid for. The cancellation stops the next renewal; it does not turn the service off at that moment or instantly release every country-change restriction.

Cancel a subscription on iPhone or iPad
This is the standard route for subscriptions billed through Apple. The same basic Settings path is documented for Apple Vision Pro.
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the top to open your Apple Account.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select the subscription you need to end.
- Tap Cancel Subscription. You may need to scroll to see the button, then confirm.
If there is no Cancel Subscription button, or the page shows a red expiration message, Apple considers that subscription already cancelled. Note the expiration date shown and wait until that date passes before attempting the region change. Do not cancel an item and immediately assume the region screen will accept the change.
Cancel several subscriptions
Review every item listed under Subscriptions, not just the service you use most often. Apple One, iCloud+, Apple Music, Apple TV subscriptions, app subscriptions, and free trials can all appear in this list. Cancel each item that could keep the account tied to the current storefront, and record its end date so you know when the account should be eligible.
Use the subscription page as a status record. A normal cancellation confirmation, a red expiration notice, and the absence of a Cancel button all indicate that renewal has been stopped; the date shown is the important part for a region move. If several services end on different dates, the latest relevant date controls your practical timetable.
Cancel on a Mac
For an Apple-billed subscription on macOS:
- Open the App Store.
- Click your name in the sidebar. If you are not signed in, sign in with the Apple Account that is billed.
- Open Account Settings or View Information, then find the Subscriptions section.
- Click Manage next to Subscriptions.
- Select the subscription, choose Edit, and click Cancel Subscription.
The labels can vary slightly by macOS release, but the account, subscriptions, and manage controls are in the App Store rather than in the Music playback window. If the item is not listed, stop trying alternate Mac menus and identify the billing account or company instead.
Cancel in Windows Apple apps
On Windows, Apple directs subscribers to the Apple Music or Apple TV app:
- Open Apple Music or Apple TV and open your account view.
- Choose Manage next to Subscriptions.
- Select the relevant subscription and click Edit.
- Choose Cancel Subscription and confirm.
Use the Apple Account that appears in the app. If the subscription is not listed, follow the billing-identification steps below instead of assuming it has ended. A Windows installation does not change who bills you; it only provides another place to manage an Apple-billed subscription.
Cancel Apple-billed subscriptions on the web
If you cannot use an Apple device or desktop app, sign in at account.apple.com with the billed Apple Account and open the subscription-management area. Apple-billed subscriptions can be managed there. A web login does not override the waiting requirement: after cancellation, the existing period still has to finish.

Android: distinguish Google Play billing from Apple billing
Apple Music or Apple TV subscriptions started through Google Play are controlled by Google Play. Open the Google Play app, switch to the Google account that pays, open subscriptions, select the Apple service, and cancel it there.
If the Android subscription is billed directly by Apple rather than Google Play, manage it through account.apple.com or another Apple account interface. The place where you watch or listen does not determine the billing company; the receipt and payment statement do.
This distinction prevents a common failed attempt: cancelling an Apple service in Apple settings when Google Play, a carrier, or the provider’s own website is actually collecting the money. The cancellation must be made in the system that created the subscription.

If the subscription is missing
A blank Subscriptions screen does not prove that no active subscription exists. It usually means you are looking at the wrong account or the service is billed outside Apple.
Check the Apple receipt
- Search your email for “receipt from Apple” or “invoice from Apple”.
- Open the receipt and note the Apple Account shown on it.
- Sign in with that account and check Settings, an Apple app, or account.apple.com again.
If the receipt belongs to a family member’s account, that person must cancel it. Apple says you cannot cancel another family member’s subscription from your own account, even when Family Sharing lets you use the service. Ask the account holder to perform the cancellation and to tell you the expiration date.
Check your bank or card statement
When there is no Apple receipt, inspect the transaction description on your bank or card statement. It may identify Google Play, a mobile carrier, or another company. Contact the company named on the charge and request cancellation there. Carrier-billed and provider-billed subscriptions do not appear in Apple’s subscription list, so changing settings on your iPhone will not end them.
Check shared and alternative accounts
- Sign out of any secondary Apple Account you use for purchases and check that account separately.
- Ask the family member who owns the subscription to cancel it.
- Check whether the service was purchased through Google Play, a carrier, or the provider’s own website.
Keep the receipt, statement description, and cancellation confirmation together. Those details identify who can act when Apple’s region page reports a subscription you cannot see.

Trial subscriptions need their own deadline
Apple’s support guidance says:
“If you signed up for a trial subscription and you don’t want to renew it, cancel it at least 24 hours before the trial ends.”

The quotation comes from Apple’s Cancel a subscription from Apple guidance, published September 29, 2026. Do not wait until the final hours if the trial is also a blocker for your planned move. After cancelling, verify the displayed expiration date and still wait until the trial period ends before changing regions. A trial is still a subscription for timing purposes even though no paid renewal has occurred yet.
Clear the other country-or-region blockers
Subscriptions are only one part of Apple’s eligibility check. Work through this list before you try the change.
Spend your Apple Account balance
Use the remaining balance in the current storefront. If the amount is less than the price of a single item and cannot be spent, Apple says to contact Apple Support to clear the balance. Do not assume a zero-looking balance in one storefront means every currency or credit obligation has been removed.
Finish pending transactions
Wait for memberships, pre-orders, movie rentals, Season Passes, and pending Apple refunds to complete or process. A rental or pre-order can remain an account commitment even when no subscription appears in Settings. Check each category rather than focusing only on recurring charges.
Review Family Sharing
Participation in Family Sharing may prevent a country or region change. Check whether you are an organizer or a participating member and follow Apple’s prompts to leave or otherwise resolve the family arrangement before retrying.
Prepare destination payment details
Apple may require a valid payment method for the new country or region. Have a payment method issued for that destination and the corresponding billing address ready. A card that works in the old storefront may not satisfy the new region’s requirement.
Download content you may lose access to
Store catalogues differ by country. Before switching, redownload apps, music, films, television shows, and books that you expect to need. Content available in the current region may not be available after the move, and redownloading later may not be possible if the item is absent from the destination storefront.

Check Apple One and iCloud+
If you cancel Apple One or iCloud+, review Apple’s separate explanation of what happens to stored iCloud information before confirming. Apple says you can resubscribe after updating billing details if those services are available in the new location, but you should understand the storage consequences of the cancellation and avoid exceeding the replacement plan’s capacity.

A practical timing plan
Start by listing every service, its billing company, and its displayed expiration date. Cancel Apple-billed items first, then handle Google Play, carrier, or provider subscriptions with those companies. For a trial, act at least 24 hours before its stated end. For a paid subscription, cancellation prevents the next renewal but leaves access active through the period already purchased.
While you wait, spend the Apple Account balance, allow refunds and other pending items to finish, and resolve Family Sharing. Download region-sensitive content during this interval. On the day you retry, verify that the last blocking subscription’s period has ended, not merely that its status says “cancelled.”
How to tell when you are ready

- Memberships, pre-orders, rentals, Season Passes, and refunds are complete.
- Family Sharing no longer prevents the move.
- You have a valid destination payment method and billing address if Apple asks for them.
- You have downloaded region-sensitive content and reviewed iCloud storage implications.
If one item is unresolved, the region screen may continue to reject the change even though the subscription page itself looks clear. Eligibility is account-wide, so clearing one visible subscription does not clear an unrelated balance, family status, or pending transaction.
Change the country or region after the waiting period
iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro
- Open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Media & Purchases.
- Choose Country/Region.
- Select the new country or region and continue.
- Review and accept the terms and conditions.
- Enter the destination payment details and billing address if requested.
Mac
- Open Apple Music or Apple TV.
- Choose Account, then Account Settings.
- Find Country/Region and select the change option.
- Follow the onscreen instructions, including payment and billing information.
Windows
- Open Apple Music or Apple TV.
- Open your account view.
- Choose Change Country or Region.
- Complete the prompts and provide the requested destination details.
Web
- Sign in at account.apple.com.
- Select Personal Information.
- Open Country/Region.
- Follow the onscreen steps to select the new region and submit billing information.
What to do when Apple still refuses the change
The subscription is cancelled but the region is still blocked
Look at the subscription’s expiration date rather than its cancellation status. If the date is in the future, the paid period is still active. Wait until it passes, then sign out and back in if necessary and retry the region setting.
You cannot find the subscription Apple says is blocking the change
Repeat the receipt and statement checks. A different Apple Account, a family member, Google Play, a carrier, or another provider may own the billing relationship. Only the actual account holder or billing company can end it.
The account has a small leftover balance
Try to spend it. If it is below the cost of one available item, contact Apple Support rather than adding funds or repeatedly retrying the region change.

Confirm that the method is valid in the destination country and that the billing address matches the issuer’s records. Apple may require a destination-issued method even when the old card remains active.

Content disappears after the move
That is a catalogue difference, not necessarily an account error. Content availability can vary by region, which is why downloading important items before switching is safer than relying on future access.
Cancellation versus deleting an Apple Account
These instructions cancel recurring charges and prepare an existing account for a storefront move. They do not delete the Apple Account, erase your devices, or automatically remove purchased content. Keep the account credentials available until the region change is complete and all services are working in the destination storefront.
