To cancel what many people call a “Google Photos subscription,” cancel the Google One membership that provides shared storage. First check which Google Account owns the plan and where it is billed: the cancellation route follows the purchase route. Ordinary cancellation does not immediately delete your photos; the main issue is whether your account will exceed its free storage after the paid period ends.
Before you cancel, identify the account and billing route
Google Photos storage is part of Google One storage, which is shared with Google Photos, Drive, and Gmail. Make sure you are signed in to the Google Account that has the membership, then check how the plan is billed. You may see the relevant setting described as “cancel Google One membership” or “cancel Google One storage plan.” Google’s cancellation guidance explains the standard process.

If you bought it through the App Store, use Apple’s subscription controls instead. Google’s steps and guidance are on Google One Help; Apple explains how to cancel a subscription.
What happens after cancellation
Your benefits usually continue until the billing period ends
For ordinary cancellations, Google says paid storage and benefits remain available until the end of the billing cycle: “You have until the end of the billing cycle to use them.” Google’s cancellation policy identifies Metro by T-Mobile sponsored memberships in the United States as an exception: those end when cancelled.
Check your storage before the paid period expires
After the membership ends, the account has up to 15 GB of free personal storage shared across Google Photos, Drive, and Gmail. If your usage is above the storage available to you, Google Photos backup stops, and Google lists restrictions for Gmail and Drive as well. Check your account’s storage and reduce usage or arrange another storage plan before the paid period ends if you depend on continuous photo backup. See Google’s explanation of storage limits and what happens when you exceed them.

Cancellation is not the same as deleting Google One
Ending the paid membership should not be confused with deleting the Google One service. Cancelling the membership does not itself delete saved photos. Google’s separate service-deletion guidance says content in Photos, Drive, and Gmail remains for at least two years after deleting the Google One service; that is a different action from ordinary cancellation. Google One Help explains the distinction.

Do not assume cancellation will produce a refund. Google’s policy says most Google storage plan purchases are non-refundable. For an App Store purchase, Google directs customers to Apple for refund requests, and the outcome depends on the applicable policy and purchase route. Review Google’s cancellation and refund guidance or contact Apple for an App Store purchase.
