To cancel a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 preorder, contact the seller that took your order: PlayStation Support for a PlayStation Store purchase, the relevant storefront for an Xbox, Steam, or Battle.net purchase, or the retailer listed on a physical-order receipt. Cancellation and refund rules depend on the seller, region, order status, and—in some cases—whether the game has started downloading.
First, identify where you placed the preorder
Check your order confirmation or purchase history. Activision’s official Modern Warfare 4 preorder guide lists digital storefronts, while its editions page says physical PS5 and Xbox Series X editions are sold through select retailers. The order record tells you which company can process a cancellation.

- PlayStation Store digital preorder: Contact PlayStation Support and review the US-specific eligibility below.
- Xbox, Steam, or Battle.net digital preorder: Use that storefront’s current order support and refund process. The available official sources do not establish one set of current terms that applies across these platforms and every region.
- Physical copy: Contact the retailer named on your receipt or confirmation. Its cancellation cutoff may depend on whether the order is processing or has shipped.
PlayStation Store: US digital preorder rules
PlayStation’s US preorder refund guidance, checked October 7, 2026, says you can request a refund before release or within 14 days of purchase, provided the main product has not started downloading or streaming. For a preorder made more than 14 days before release, the described request period runs up to release. For one made 14 days or less before release, the request period runs up to 14 days after purchase. The no-download-or-streaming condition applies in either case.

PlayStation instructs customers to contact PlayStation Support to cancel. Check the game’s download status and your console’s automatic-download settings: an automatic download can affect the stated eligibility even if you did not start it manually. PlayStation also says preorder bonuses made available before release may be removed when the order is cancelled. Refunds go to the original payment method where possible; some payment methods are refunded to the PlayStation wallet. These are the terms described on the US support page, not a universal rule for other countries.

Cancel an order on another digital storefront
For an Xbox, Steam, or Battle.net order, open the purchase history or order details in the storefront account and follow its current support and refund route. Check that storefront’s policy for your region and the order’s current status before submitting a request. Do not assume PlayStation’s 14-day or download conditions apply to another platform.
The seller matters: a general support example from EA says customers who bought through PlayStation or Xbox should contact those retailers, but that is not Activision policy and does not set the terms for a Call of Duty purchase. Activision customer support is not the cancellation contact unless Activision itself accepted the order.

Cancel a physical preorder
For a physical PS5 or Xbox Series X copy, use the retailer’s order page or contact its customer service team. Check the retailer’s own cancellation deadline and fulfillment status; Activision confirms participating retailers sell physical editions but does not set their refund terms.

The Call of Duty Store returns policy applies to gear-store merchandise, not automatically to game preorders from other retailers. Its advice to contact the store immediately concerns orders placed through that gear shop, so do not use it as the policy for a boxed game bought elsewhere.

What to do before and after you request cancellation
- Locate the order record. Note the seller, platform, purchase date, order number, and whether the purchase is digital or physical.
- Check the relevant status. For PlayStation, verify that the main game has not begun downloading or streaming. For a physical copy, check whether the retailer still allows cancellation before processing or shipment.
- Submit the request to the seller. Use the support route attached to the order, and state clearly that you want to cancel the Modern Warfare 4 preorder.
- Confirm the refund destination. PlayStation describes refunds to the original payment method where possible, with some returned to the PlayStation wallet. Other sellers may handle refunds differently.
- Keep the confirmation. Save the cancellation reference and check the order or payment status until the seller confirms the result or the refund appears. No common processing time is established across sellers.
Release date and bonus-content note
Activision’s preorder guide, published May 28, 2026 and updated July 23, 2026, gives October 23, 2026 as Modern Warfare 4’s launch date. A preorder cancellation may also remove access to bonus content already made available before launch, according to PlayStation’s US support guidance; check the seller’s own terms for other platforms.
