There is no single monthly cloud price for a 24/7 YouTube music stream. Calculate it from the video’s bitrate and hours online, then add the cost of a suitably capable virtual machine, storage, and outbound data transfer for your chosen provider, region, and network route. The traffic estimate is straightforward; the invoice depends on those infrastructure choices.
1. Choose a steady streaming bitrate
Start with the resolution and frame rate you plan to send to YouTube. YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations include 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 8 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps. These are recommended encoder bitrates, not cloud-provider prices. A mostly static music visual may have different encoding needs from fast-moving footage, but choose a bitrate that meets your channel’s quality target and can be sustained reliably.

2. Estimate monthly outbound traffic
For a constant bitrate, estimate decimal gigabytes with this formula:

Traffic (GB) ≈ bitrate (Mbps) × streaming seconds ÷ 8,000
A 30-day month contains 2,592,000 seconds. That makes a nonstop stream at 1 Mbps about 324 decimal GB for 30 days. This is an arithmetic estimate of encoded stream data, not a guaranteed billable quantity: providers may bill in GiB, apply volume tiers, or calculate traffic according to the source region and destination route.

These examples assume 30 complete days at a steady bitrate. They exclude protocol overhead and are not cloud invoices. If your stream runs for fewer hours, substitute its actual streaming seconds. For a rough estimate with daily uptime, multiply bitrate by hours per day and number of days, then divide by 8,000 to get decimal GB.

3. Build the monthly cloud estimate
Price the components separately using the provider’s current calculator. For Google Cloud, use the monthly cost-estimation guidance and pricing calculator; consult its General Purpose VM pricing for the selected machine and region and its network pricing for the applicable route and traffic tier.
Compute: the always-on VM
Choose a VM that can sustain your encoder workload and required outbound throughput, then price it for the hours it will run. Use the actual region, machine type, and billing basis—on-demand or a commitment—rather than a generic VM figure. A low-priced machine is not a useful estimate if its network capability cannot maintain your selected stream.
Storage: disks and files
Add boot or persistent disk charges if your design uses them, and include any separate storage for recordings or archives. The amount and type depend on your workflow; do not silently treat storage as included in a VM price.

Outbound transfer: the large variable
Price the estimated traffic for the source region, destination, network service or tier, and monthly volume. Google Cloud publishes tiered per-GiB rates and region-specific network options; check the exact route and current Mumbai/India pricing in the calculator. An Indian channel’s location does not by itself establish that all cloud traffic qualifies for an India-local rate.

Optional architecture
Only add costs for components actually in your design, such as a backup VM or encoder, external IP, monitoring, archive storage, or a managed relay. List each as its own assumption so a reader can tell what is included.
4. Check reliability before trusting the total
A cost estimate only helps if the system can keep the stream stable. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom and says to account for both primary and backup bitrate plus that margin when sizing the connection. For a cloud setup, check the VM’s network throughput capability as well as its price. See YouTube’s streaming tips for its guidance on connection reliability, testing, failover, and monitoring.
- Test the stream and preview it in YouTube Live Control Room before relying on it.
- Test encoder failover if your design includes a backup.
- Monitor audio and video continuously; verify archive files when your workflow uses them.
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. It also recommends setting up the encoder ahead of time, checking the preview, testing failover, and verifying that the event is reachable. These are operating requirements and checks, not cloud line items.

Make the estimate comparable and reproducible
When comparing providers or a managed service against a VM, write down the same assumptions for each estimate: bitrate, monthly uptime, source region, destination, VM capability, disk, traffic tier, and any discounts or commitment. Keep the traffic calculation separate from the provider quote. That makes it clear whether a difference comes from data volume, infrastructure, route pricing, or included service features.
