How to calculate how long a 1,024Wh power station will run your devices

Estimate runtime by multiplying the station’s 1,024Wh rating by a realistic usable-energy factor, then dividing by your device’s average wattage: runtime (hours) = 1,024Wh × usable-energy factor ÷ average load (W). For AC appliances, a factor of 0.85 reflects a roughly 10–15% inverter-loss assumption, while a 0.8 factor follows Jackery’s published approximation. The result is an estimate, not a guaranteed runtime: the exact model, regional output limits, reserve energy, temperature, battery condition and changing device load all matter.

What the 1,024Wh rating tells you

Watt-hours (Wh) measure stored energy. Watts (W) measure how quickly a device uses energy. A 1,024Wh battery theoretically supplies 1,024 watts for one hour, 512 watts for two hours, or 128 watts for eight hours if conversion were perfect and the entire rating were usable. Real power stations cannot deliver every rated watt-hour to an AC appliance because the inverter consumes energy and the system may keep a reserve.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

That distinction also explains why capacity does not tell you whether a device can run. A station may contain enough energy for several hours yet be unable to start a load whose power exceeds its continuous AC output or its short-term surge rating. Check energy capacity and output capability as separate specifications.

Choose a usable-energy assumption

For AC equipment, the first estimate needs an efficiency assumption. Anker’s September 9, 2026 guidance describes subtracting approximately 10–15% for inverter losses, which is equivalent to using a factor around 0.85–0.90 before considering other model-specific overhead. Its runtime guide is available at Anker SOLIX UK’s runtime explanation. Jackery’s FAQ uses a simpler 0.8 multiplier in the formula “Runtime (hours)=Battery Capacity (Wh)×0.8/Device Power Consumption (W)”; see its runtime calculation FAQ.

These are manufacturer calculation conventions, not a universal laboratory efficiency for every power station. If the manual for your exact model gives an AC-output efficiency, reserve or standby figure, use that information instead. When no model-specific figure is available, calculate a range with both 0.85 and 0.8. Presenting two results makes the uncertainty visible instead of implying false precision.

Follow this calculation procedure

  1. Identify the exact station and region. Record the model number, rated capacity, continuous AC output and peak or surge output. Regional versions can have different limits.
  2. Identify the device’s average draw. Use measured consumption when possible. A nameplate maximum is often higher than normal operation, and cycling equipment does not draw its maximum continuously.
  3. Select the output path. Decide whether the device will use AC, a direct DC socket or USB. AC requires inverter conversion; DC and USB ports have their own conversion losses and port limits.
  4. Select a usable-energy factor. For an initial AC estimate, calculate with 0.85 and 0.8, or use the factor in the station’s manual.
  5. Divide usable watt-hours by average watts. Keep the units consistent: Wh divided by W produces hours.
  6. Check output limits before connecting. Confirm that the total running load is below the station’s continuous rating and that motor or compressor startup is within the documented surge capability.
  7. Plan a margin. Stop short of the theoretical endpoint when the device is important, the weather is cold or hot, or the station’s reserve and battery condition are uncertain.

Worked examples for common loads

The following arithmetic uses the 1,024Wh rating and shows three views: ideal division with no losses, a 0.85 usable-energy factor, and Jackery’s approximate 0.8 factor. The figures are illustrative calculations, not measured runtimes for a particular station.

Average device load Ideal 1,024Wh ÷ load At 0.85 factor At 0.8 factor
60W About 17.1 hours About 14.5 hours About 13.7 hours
100W About 10.2 hours About 8.7 hours About 8.2 hours
150W About 6.8 hours About 5.8 hours About 5.5 hours

The 100W row is the useful mental model: a 1,024Wh station does not normally provide 10.2 hours to a 100W AC device because the inverter and station overhead reduce the energy available at the outlet. Under the two common assumptions, the estimate is roughly 8.2–8.7 hours before model-specific reserve, temperature, battery age or load changes are considered.

For a 60W device, ideal arithmetic produces 17.1 hours, but the two practical assumptions reduce that to approximately 13.7–14.5 hours. At 150W, the corresponding practical estimate is approximately 5.5–5.8 hours. The device must still remain within the station’s output rating throughout operation.

Find the device’s real average wattage

Start with the label, but treat it as a ceiling

Look for watts (W), volts (V) and amps (A) on the device label, power brick or manual. If only volts and amps are shown, their product gives the rated electrical power in watts. That number may describe a maximum, not the consumption you will see during ordinary use. A laptop charger, for example, can be rated for more power than the computer draws continuously.

Do not automatically treat a refrigerator compressor, pump, fan or heater’s nameplate wattage as a constant load. Compressors and thermostatically controlled appliances cycle, and their startup demand can be much higher than their running demand. The calculation needs an average over the period you care about, while the output check must account for startup.

Measure an AC device over time

A plug-in electricity-usage meter can show the instantaneous draw and, on models that support it, accumulated energy. Measure the appliance while it performs the same work and follows the same duty cycle you expect on battery. For a refrigerator, record enough time to include compressor starts and stops rather than sampling only when the compressor is running.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A meter improves the wattage input; it does not turn the final answer into a guarantee. The station’s inverter, reserve policy, temperature and battery condition still affect the delivered runtime. If you cannot measure, use the best documented average consumption and show a range rather than one exact-looking number.

Average multiple operating states

For a device that alternates between states, estimate the energy used in each state and divide by the total period. For example, if a load uses one wattage while active and another while idle, weight each by the time spent in that state. The resulting average wattage is the value to place in the runtime calculation. This approach is more defensible than using the highest label value for every minute.

Calculate several devices at once

When multiple devices run simultaneously, add their average wattages before dividing. A 60W monitor and a 40W networking device create a combined 100W average load, so the same 100W estimates in the table apply to their combined use. Include every device connected to the station, including loads that seem small, because the inverter must supply their total.

  • Fast Charge Portable Power Station, Go Far - DJI Power 2000 recharges to 80% in just 55 minutes, so you're always ready for road trips, outdoor adventures, or emergency backup without long waits.
  • Uncompromising Safety, Anywhere - DJI Outdoor Generator features a 2048Wh LFP battery, smart BMS, sub-nano coating, and flame-retardant housing—ensuring safety even in wet or rugged outdoor conditions [18].
  • Quiet Comfort for Restful Nights - DJI Power 2000 runs as low as 30 dB, reducing noise during nighttime use in RVs—sleep undisturbed when the battery generator charging devices in enclosed spaces.
  • Extended Backup, Anytime - DJI Power 2000 supports expansion up to 22.5kWh*—enough to power essential home devices for 4–6 days during blackouts, storms, or off-grid living. * Requires expansion batteries, which are sold separately.

Use the highest plausible simultaneous draw for the output check, not only the average used for runtime. A refrigerator that averages 60W may still demand a much larger brief starting surge. If that surge exceeds the station’s documented peak capability, the station can shut down even though the energy calculation predicts many hours.

AC, DC and USB outputs are not interchangeable

An AC appliance draws power through the station’s inverter. Direct DC sockets and USB ports use different conversion paths and are governed by their own voltage, current and wattage limits. Consequently, an AC efficiency assumption should not automatically be applied to every port.

Use the port that matches the device when the manufacturer allows it, and consult the station manual for that port’s maximum output. A device that accepts USB-C may avoid the AC inverter, but its actual consumption still depends on charging behavior and the power-delivery profile. A 1,024Wh capacity number alone cannot establish a runtime for a particular DC or USB setup.

For a precise DC or USB estimate, obtain the output path’s documented conversion factor or measure energy delivered to the device. If neither is available, label the result as a rough estimate and retain a margin.

Verify continuous and surge output

Capacity and output are separate specifications. The station must support the device’s running wattage continuously, and it must tolerate any startup or surge requirement. Motors, compressors and some power supplies can briefly draw more than their steady-state rating.

As a concrete specification example, DJI’s official Power 1000 specifications list 1,024Wh capacity for the DYM1000L and DYM1000H variants and up to 2,200W continuous AC output under stated conditions. The same page describes a 2,000W continuous limit for the Japan version and distinguishes maximum and peak output figures. Those regional and operating-condition qualifications matter: use the documentation for the exact model and country rather than copying a headline number from another version.

Compare these values in order:

  • Capacity (Wh): how much stored energy is available in principle.
  • Continuous AC output (W): the load the inverter can sustain.
  • Peak or surge output: the short-duration capability for starting loads, including its stated duration where provided.
  • Port-specific limits: the maximum for each DC, USB or AC output.
  • Device average and startup draw: the energy rate for runtime and the momentary demand for compatibility.

What the published appliance examples really mean

Anker’s September 9, 2026 guide gives approximate examples for a 1,024Wh station, including roughly 8–10 hours for a mini fridge and more than 20 hours for a CPAP. These are Anker estimates, not independently measured universal runtimes. The actual mini-fridge result depends on its compressor duty cycle and starting demand; the CPAP result depends on pressure settings, humidification, heated tubing and other accessories.

Use such examples as plausibility checks, not promises. If your measured average load is known, the wattage-based calculation is more relevant than a category label. Two appliances sold as mini fridges can have very different duty cycles, ambient-temperature behavior and startup requirements.

Why the station may stop sooner than the arithmetic suggests

Inverter and conversion overhead

The AC inverter consumes part of the battery’s energy while converting DC battery power to AC. The 0.85 and 0.8 factors are ways to account for that loss in a first estimate. Small loads can be especially sensitive to fixed overhead because the station is running its control electronics even when the appliance uses little power.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Reserve energy and shutdown thresholds

Power stations may retain energy that the output ports cannot deliver, and they may shut down before the displayed percentage reaches an absolute chemical zero. The amount is model-specific and is not established by the 1,024Wh label. This is one reason to treat a calculated endpoint as an estimate and keep a margin for critical equipment.

Battery condition and temperature

Battery condition and temperature can change the energy available at the outlet. A calculation performed with a new, warm battery should not be presented as a guarantee for an older battery in cold or hot conditions. If the station manual gives operating-temperature or capacity guidance, apply it to your planning.

Changing loads

Displays, computers, refrigerators and pumps can change their draw from minute to minute. A runtime estimate based on a brief reading can be misleading if the device later enters a higher-power state. Measure or estimate an average over the complete operating cycle you need.

Plan a realistic operating window

For noncritical use, calculate both practical factors and use the shorter result when deciding how long the device should run. For a critical load, also account for the time needed to start, transfer or recharge it; do not schedule the station to reach its theoretical endpoint at the exact moment the device is needed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Write down the assumptions alongside the result: exact station model and region, AC or DC output, measured or nameplate wattage, chosen factor, expected temperature and whether the load cycles. If any of those inputs changes, recalculate instead of reusing the old number.

When comparing two stations, do not rank them by Wh alone. A higher-capacity model with a low continuous output may be unsuitable for a high-wattage appliance, while a lower-capacity model with adequate output may run a modest load for the required period. Compare capacity, continuous output, peak capability, port limits and the device’s average and startup demand together.

Troubleshoot a runtime that does not match the estimate

The station shuts off immediately

  • Check whether the device’s startup surge exceeds the station’s peak rating.
  • Confirm that the connected total is below the continuous output limit.
  • Verify that the correct AC, DC or USB mode is enabled and that the port supports the device.

The station runs, but for far fewer hours

  • Measure the device over a complete duty cycle; a brief low reading may have missed compressor, heater or charging periods.
  • Recalculate with the 0.8 factor if you used ideal division or 0.85.
  • Check for additional devices and the station’s own reserve or standby behavior.
  • Consider battery condition and temperature, both of which can reduce usable energy.

The result is longer than expected

  • Confirm that the device is actually drawing the wattage you assumed; a nameplate maximum can exceed normal consumption.
  • Check whether the device is cycling or entering a low-power state.
  • Make sure the measurement covers the same accessories and operating settings used during the estimate.

A compact worksheet

Use this sequence whenever you need to repeat the calculation:

  1. Write the station capacity: 1,024Wh.
  2. Write the device’s measured or best-supported average load in watts.
  3. Choose 0.85 and 0.8 for an AC range unless the station manual supplies a better factor.
  4. Multiply 1,024 by each factor.
  5. Divide each usable-energy result by the average watts.
  6. Record the exact model, region, output path and assumptions beside the hours.
  7. Check continuous and surge output before plugging in the device.
  8. Keep a practical margin instead of planning to the final calculated minute.

This worksheet separates the energy question—how many hours the battery can supply—from the compatibility question—whether the station can deliver the required running and startup power at all.
