1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAs of August 18, 2026, the Pixel 9 is a previous-generation phone: Pixel 11 is scheduled to arrive August 20. Buy the Pixel 9 unlocked if you value the freedom to switch carriers; consider carrier bill credits only if you already have—or genuinely want—the qualifying plan and can keep it for the full term. No live August 2026 Pixel 9 promotion from Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile is established here, so check the final checkout terms before choosing a deal.
Where should you buy the Pixel 9?
| Your situation | Route to check first | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| You may switch carriers, use an MVNO, or travel | Unlocked Pixel 9 from Google Store or a reputable retailer | Usually more money upfront; no carrier bill credits |
| You already have Verizon and would keep your plan | Check Verizon’s current Pixel 9 offer and compare its total cost with an unlocked purchase | Credits and eligibility may depend on the line and plan for the full promotion term |
| You already have AT&T and would keep your plan | Compare AT&T’s current consumer offer with Google Store unlocked pricing | Confirm the qualifying plan, trade-in rules, and credit term |
| You already have T-Mobile | Check T-Mobile’s Pixel 9 product page for a live offer | Offers for newer Pixel models do not prove a Pixel 9 promotion is available |
| You want an open-box deal | Inspect a specific reputable retailer listing, such as Best Buy’s unlocked open-box listing | Condition, stock, return terms, and warranty can vary |
Google Store lists the Pixel 9 as an unlocked phone and lets buyers select a preferred carrier. Its carrier activation option is available for AT&T and Verizon, not every carrier. Check [Google’s Pixel 9 product page](https://store.google.com/us/product/pixel_9?hl=en-US) and [carrier activation help](https://support.google.com/store/answer/12320501?hl=en) for current details. For an unlocked phone, carrier compatibility still depends on the device and network; see [Google’s compatibility guidance](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/7107188?hl=en).
Is the Pixel 9 still worth buying?
The Pixel 9 can make sense as clearance-priced previous-generation hardware, but its value depends on the gap between its all-in price and newer Pixel models. Pixel 11 preorder coverage says release is scheduled for August 20, 2026; check the [Pixel 11 timing report](https://www.techradar.com/phones/google-pixel-phones/google-pixel-11-and-pixel-11-pro-preorders-are-officially-live-heres-where-to-get-your-device-with-the-best-deals) and current Google listings when comparing. Also compare the Pixel 9 with the lower-cost Pixel 9a and Pixel 10 generation: if the price difference is small, a newer model may be the better long-term purchase.
Choose the Pixel 9 when the savings are meaningful to you and its features fit. Google specifies a 6.3-inch, 1080 × 2424 display at 422 ppi, and says a Google 45W USB-C charger (sold separately) can charge it to up to 55% in about 30 minutes. See [Google’s Pixel 9 specifications](https://store.google.com/product/pixel_9_specs?hl=en-US). Consider whether you need its premium build, camera hardware, wireless charging, compact size, and Google AI features—or whether a cheaper model covers your needs. Verify Google’s current support information before placing a precise value on the remaining support period.
#1 Best Overall
- The power behind AI on Google Pixel - Google Tensor G4 is Pixel’s most powerful chip yet.
- Advanced camera. Next-level amazing - The award-winning Pixel Camera includes a 50 MP main sensor for incredible image and video quality. And a new 48 MP ultrawide camera for stunning Macro Focus.
- The amazing Actua display - The 6.3-inch Actua display is sharp, vibrant, and super bright. It runs fast, up to 120Hz, for smooth gaming, scrolling, and switching between apps
- Powerful performance - Pixel 9 runs fast and smooth with 12 GB of RAM. And it’s designed to handle Google’s advanced AI.
- Give photos a whole new vision - Reimagine photos in Magic Editor, like adding fall leaves or green grass. Just tap what part you want to change in the photo, and type what you want to see.
For used, refurbished, or open-box stock, verify the exact model and storage, unlocked status, seller, warranty, return window, and device condition. A listing that says “unlocked” does not by itself establish a clean account or financing history.
Unlocked versus carrier financing
Unlocked purchase
- Best for: people who want to change carriers, use an MVNO, travel, or resell the phone without waiting out bill credits.
- Advantages: no service commitment tied to a device promotion and no risk of losing future credits when leaving a carrier.
- Trade-offs: higher upfront cost may apply, and the trade-in offer may be less generous than a carrier promotion. Confirm compatibility and the exact SKU rather than assuming every Pixel 9 listing is unlocked.
Carrier financing
- Best for: customers who already use a qualifying plan and expect to keep it through the complete credit period.
- Advantages: lower upfront payment and potentially substantial promotion value.
- Trade-offs: the advertised savings may arrive as monthly credits, not an immediate discount. Plan costs, taxes, fees, lock terms, and early cancellation or upgrade rules can change the real cost.
Before treating a device as “free,” confirm whether the offer means free after bill credits, which lines and plans qualify, and what happens to remaining credits if you change your plan, cancel, pay off the device, or upgrade early.
How to compare the real cost
Use the same time horizon for the phone and the carrier commitment. A useful worksheet is:
Rank #2
- Google Pixel 9 with Gemini gets the best of Google AI first, so you can take amazing photos, make edits like magic, and get things done even easier
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan[1]; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- The award-winning Pixel Camera includes a 50 MP main sensor for incredible image and video quality, and a new 48 MP ultrawide camera for stunning Macro Focus
- Make your photos better than you can imagine with Google AI; take a picture and be in it too with Add Me[2]; Best Take helps everyone look their best; and with Magic Editor, you can reframe photos, reimagine the scenery, and more[2]
- Get more info quickly with Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; instead of typing, use Gemini Live; it follows along even if you change the topic or switch the question[30]; and Pixel Screenshots helps you save things you’ll want to remember later
Effective cost = device price + taxes + activation or upgrade fees + required-plan cost during the commitment period − trade-in value − promotional credits − usable gift-card value.
Calculate the phone-only effective price and the incremental plan cost separately. For the plan calculation, compare the qualifying service with what you would otherwise pay; a carrier offer can cost more overall if it requires a more expensive plan than your current one. Count store credit only at the amount you realistically expect to use, not as cash.
For each offer, check these terms on the seller’s current product and checkout pages:

- The exact plan tier and whether legacy plans are eligible.
- Which trade-in models and condition grades qualify, and whether the old phone must be paid off.
- Credit amount, length, start date, and what stops credits.
- Device price, taxes, activation or upgrade fees, and any required down payment.
- Unlock policy, early-payoff rules, return procedure, and whether a trade-in is handled by the carrier or a third party.
Carrier and retailer options
Verizon
Check Verizon’s current Pixel listing and checkout terms before relying on any discount. Verizon’s Pixel 9 launch announcement described up to $800 off a Pixel 9-series phone with an eligible trade-in, but that is historical, not evidence of a live August 2026 promotion. See the [launch announcement](https://www.verizon.com/about/news/google-pixel-9-fold-verizon-offer) and [Verizon Pixel phones](https://www.verizon.com/smartphones/google-pixel/). A Verizon offer is most plausible as a fit for an existing customer whose plan already qualifies and who will stay for the whole credit term. It is a poor reason by itself to switch to a more expensive plan or carrier.
AT&T
Google Store supports AT&T activation, but that does not establish a current AT&T Pixel 9 promotion. Check AT&T’s current consumer listing for eligible plans, line type, trade-in tiers, installment term, credit timing, taxes, fees, and unlock rules. Start at [AT&T’s Pixel page](https://www.att.com/buy/phones/google/). A 2025 AT&T equipment document listed a 128GB Pixel 9 at $849.99; that historical business equipment reference is not a current consumer price: [AT&T equipment pricing document](https://www.business.att.com/content/dam/businesscenter/pdf/legal/att-business-equipment-list-v011025.pdf).
T-Mobile
The available deal coverage concerns newer Pixel promotions and does not verify a live Pixel 9 offer. Check T-Mobile’s own [Pixel listings](https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phones/google) for the exact model, plan, trade-in, line eligibility, number of credits, and payoff or plan-change consequences. Do not infer Pixel 9 availability from a Pixel 11 promotion; [Android Central’s T-Mobile deal coverage](https://www.androidcentral.com/phones/t-mobile/best-t-mobile-deals-of-the-month-2026) is context for newer-device deals, not proof of a Pixel 9 offer.

Google Store
Google Store is a straightforward route to an unlocked Pixel 9 and supports trade-ins from Pixel phones and other manufacturers. Its trade-in value depends on the phone and its condition. Check the live [Pixel 9 page](https://store.google.com/us/product/pixel_9?hl=en-US), [trade-in page](https://store.google.com/us/category/trade_in?hl=en-US), and [financing page](https://store.google.com/us/magazine/financing); prices and financing terms can change.
Best Buy and open-box inventory
Best Buy has listed an unlocked, 128GB Obsidian Pixel 9 as open-box, with compatibility shown for AT&T, Verizon, Google Fi, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Visible. That listing is an inventory example, not a guarantee of current stock or price: [Best Buy open-box listing](https://www.bestbuy.com/product/google-pixel-9-128gb-unlocked-obsidian/J39TC87GQT/sku/6587819/openbox?condition=good). Confirm the selected unit’s condition, exact unlocked status, warranty, return terms, seller, and any included accessories before paying.

Google says its trade-in partner must receive the old phone within 30 days of the new phone’s arrival, and the received condition must match the answers supplied during checkout. An estimate is therefore not an unconditional final value. See the [Pixel 9 purchase details](https://store.google.com/us/product/pixel_9?hl=en-US) and [Google Store trade-in information](https://store.google.com/us/category/trade_in?hl=en-US). If you use Google Store Financing and the credit was not applied instantly, Google says the eligible trade-in value may be refunded against the financing balance.

- 128gb of storage
- Includes charging cord and box
- Excellent cosmetic condition
- Select the Pixel 9 configuration and choose a trade-in phone during checkout.
- Answer the model and condition questions accurately; review whether the estimate is an immediate reduction or a later credit.
- Before sending the old phone, back up your data, remove accounts and locks, transfer or delete eSIM profiles, remove the physical SIM, and factory-reset it.
- Photograph the phone’s condition and IMEI, then retain the shipping receipt and tracking number.
- Ship using the provided process in time for the partner to receive it within the stated window.
- Track delivery and inspection; review any revised value against the submitted condition and contact the program through its stated dispute process if the assessment appears incorrect.
Cracked glass, a phone that will not power on, a swollen battery, water damage, wrong model or storage details, an IMEI mismatch, activation or enterprise-management locks, missing required parts, late shipping, or an outstanding installment balance can all derail a trade-in or reduce its value. Do not send a financed phone unless the program accepts it and you have separately resolved the loan obligations.
Trade-in or sell the old phone?
- Trade it in when convenience matters, the offer materially exceeds a realistic resale alternative, the phone has limited resale demand, or the promotion’s terms suit your plans.
- Sell it privately when the phone is in strong condition, has resale demand, you want cash, or the carrier’s headline maximum does not apply to your model. Compare actual offers rather than assuming a private-sale price.
- Be cautious with carrier credits if you may leave before the credit term ends; cash from a sale has no carrier commitment attached.
Fine print that changes the deal
- Plan changes and cancellations: credits may stop if the line is canceled or becomes ineligible. Ask whether moving to a cheaper plan affects the promotion.
- Early payoff and upgrades: paying off the device or upgrading before the term ends may affect remaining credits; get the rule in writing before ordering.
- Fees and taxes: a $0 monthly device payment does not mean nothing is due at checkout. Confirm tax basis and activation or upgrade charges.
- Credit delays: you may see installments before promotional credits appear. Confirm the expected start and what to do if credits are missing.
- Returns after trade-in: returning the new phone may not automatically reverse a separate trade-in transaction. Read both policies before shipping an old device.
- Family lines: eligibility can attach to one line while changes to another line affect the account or promotion. Confirm which line carries the deal.
- Locks and international use: verify unlock timing and the exact US model’s network compatibility for your destination. An unlocked phone still must support the relevant network bands and activation method.
Bottom-line buying rule
Choose an unlocked Pixel 9 when flexibility is worth more than a potential carrier subsidy. Choose a carrier promotion only after verifying the live offer and confirming that its qualifying plan and full credit term fit your existing service plans. If the Pixel 9 costs close to a newer Pixel after all discounts, compare the newer phone before committing.
