To buy Enterprise Products Partners L.P. (NYSE: EPD), search for EPD in a brokerage account and place an order through your broker. Enterprise says it does not offer a direct unit purchase program. If you become a unitholder, expect a partnership tax package that includes Schedule K-1—not the ordinary corporate-dividend Form 1099 treatment. The latest package date announced by Enterprise is for the 2025 tax year: online availability began March 3, 2026.
How to buy EPD units
Enterprise Products Partners says its common units are listed on the New York Stock Exchange under ticker EPD and can be purchased through a brokerage firm. Its investor FAQ states: “We do not offer a direct unit purchase program for investors at this time.”

Enterprise is treated as a partnership for U.S. tax purposes. In general, a partnership files an information return and passes its tax items through to its partners, who report their shares on their own returns. The IRS explains this framework in its overview of partnership taxation.

That differs from the usual corporate shareholder reporting: a corporation may report items such as dividends and interest on Form 1099, while a partnership reports a partner’s share of partnership items on Schedule K-1. Enterprise describes its treatment and reporting on its K-1 Tax Information page.
A K-1 is not simply a statement of cash dividends. It reports tax items allocated to you as a partner; those allocations and the cash distributions you receive are related but distinct. A distribution amount does not by itself tell you how much partnership income is taxable to you.

Where to find the K-1 package
Enterprise’s February 27, 2026 announcement said that 2025 tax-year Schedule K-1 packages would be available online beginning March 3, 2026, with mailing expected to begin on that date. The announcement directs holders to the issuer’s Tax Package Support site and gives the support number 800-599-9985. See the 2025 package announcement for its details.
Those dates apply to the 2025 tax package, not automatically to later years. For a different tax year, check Enterprise’s current K-1 information page and the current support site rather than relying on a previous year’s schedule.

How K-1 income, distributions, and basis differ
Your K-1 reports your share of partnership tax items. Your cash distributions are a separate record of money paid to you; they do not necessarily equal the income allocated on the K-1. The distinction matters because your tax basis generally changes over the time you hold a partnership interest.
As a general federal-tax framework, IRS Publication 541 says basis can increase for contributions and allocated income, and decrease for distributions, allocated losses, and certain nondeductible expenses. The applicable rules and entries depend on your circumstances; do not treat your initial purchase cost or cumulative distributions alone as your adjusted basis. See IRS Publication 541.

What changes when you sell units
A sale is not necessarily taxed by simply subtracting what you originally paid from the proceeds. For a partnership-interest sale, the general calculation involves the amount realized and your adjusted basis. Special partnership rules can treat some gain connected with unrealized receivables or inventory as ordinary income rather than capital gain. Your share of partnership liabilities and the K-1 sale information can also matter. The IRS discusses these rules in Publication 541 and the 2025 Partner’s Instructions for Schedule K-1.
Keep your purchase confirmations, annual K-1 packages, distribution records, and sale records together. Use the instructions for the applicable tax year; a qualified tax professional familiar with publicly traded partnerships can help apply the rules to a complicated K-1 or a sale. The federal sources do not determine your state tax treatment or your personal basis and gain calculation.

Foreign holders: withholding guidance is different
Enterprise’s K-1 tax information page gives separate withholding guidance for non-U.S. holders. It says a foreign unitholder selling EPD units should generally expect broker withholding of 10% of the amount realized, and describes withholding on distributions to non-U.S. investors at the maximum applicable U.S. tax rate. This issuer guidance is specific to foreign holders; it is not a general rule for U.S. investors. Non-U.S. holders should check current issuer notices and get advice for their own circumstances.
