How to Buy China Construction Bank Shares Through a Brokerage

To buy China Construction Bank (CCB) shares, first choose which listing your broker can access: the Hong Kong H-shares, ticker 939, or the Shanghai A-shares, ticker 601939. A broker with Hong Kong trading can offer the H-share route; eligible investors may be able to reach qualifying Shanghai A-shares through Northbound Stock Connect. Confirm your eligibility, the specific instrument, funding and costs with your broker before placing an order.

Choose the CCB listing your brokerage supports

CCB has two distinct listed share classes. The company identifies its H-shares as trading on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Main Board under ticker 939, and its A-shares as trading on the Shanghai Stock Exchange under ticker 601939. These are separate market listings, not interchangeable ticker formats. Check both the company name and exchange in your broker’s instrument details before submitting an order. Buying CCB H-shares in Hong Kong

If your brokerage offers Hong Kong shares, search for China Construction Bank and verify ticker 939 and the Hong Kong listing. Then follow that broker’s normal order-entry process. Before confirming, check the trading currency, available cash, order type, commission and other charges, and how the broker handles board lots and odd lots. CCB states a 1,000-share H-share block; actual order handling and applicable rules should be confirmed with your brokerage and exchange. CCB General Shareholder Information

Broker interfaces differ. For example, CCB (Asia)’s online-order guidance describes selecting a market, order type and securities account; those are features of that provider’s service, not a universal screen or required sequence for every brokerage. CCB (Asia) securities FAQ

Buying CCB A-shares through Northbound Stock Connect

For investors outside mainland China, Northbound Stock Connect is a potential route to eligible Shanghai-listed shares. It links Hong Kong and Shanghai trading, but access is conditional: both the investor and the security must meet the programme’s requirements, and the brokerage must support Northbound trading. Shanghai Stock Exchange materials describe the eligible-investor and security rules; eligibility can depend on the current security list and programme terms. Do not assume ticker 601939 is available through your account just because it is a CCB listing. Shanghai Stock Connect overview Shanghai Stock Connect eligible securities

Requirements are provider-specific. CCB (Asia), for example, says its Northbound customers need a securities trading cash account and an RMB settlement account, and it publishes stock-category and foreign-shareholding restrictions for its service. These terms illustrate what to check; they should not be treated as rules for every broker, jurisdiction or account. CCB (Asia) Stock Connect service

Check eligibility, costs and settlement before ordering

Ask your broker for its current terms for the exact market and account you plan to use. A useful pre-trade checklist is:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Market and instrument: Does the account support Hong Kong ticker 939, Northbound Shanghai trading, or both? Verify the exchange and share class shown in the instrument details.
  • Eligibility: Does your residence, account type and investor status qualify? For Stock Connect, confirm that the specific CCB instrument is currently eligible.
  • Funding and settlement: Which currency must you hold or convert, what settlement account is required, and how are conversion and settlement handled?
  • Total charges: Request the current commission and applicable exchange, regulatory, custody and foreign-exchange charges. These vary by provider and jurisdiction; there is no single broker fee schedule that applies to all readers.
  • Order and lot handling: Confirm the applicable lot size, whether odd-lot trades are supported, and which order types are available.
  • Holding and corporate actions: Ask how the broker and its custodian record your interest, and how dividends, voting and other corporate actions are handled under your account terms.

Understand how shares may be held

Buying through a brokerage does not necessarily mean your name appears directly on the issuer’s share register. CCB’s 2026 half-year report describes HKSCC Nominees holding H-shares for registered investors and Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company holding Northbound A-shares for Hong Kong and overseas investors as at 30 June 2026. The precise custody chain and the rights and procedures applicable to your account depend on your broker and custodian documents; review those terms rather than assuming direct registration. Place the order through your broker

  1. Open or use an eligible brokerage account. Confirm that the provider accepts clients in your country and offers the market route you intend to use.
  2. Complete market-specific setup. If buying through Stock Connect, ask the broker to confirm your service eligibility, required accounts and funding currency before searching for the Shanghai listing.
  3. Find the correct security. Select CCB’s Hong Kong H-share listing, ticker 939, or Shanghai A-share listing, ticker 601939, according to the route available to you.
  4. Review the order details. Check the exchange, share class, quantity, order type, estimated charges, currency and lot handling shown on the broker’s confirmation screen.
  5. Submit and monitor the order. An order may not execute simply because it was submitted; check its status and the broker’s settlement and holdings records.

The exact screens, order types and settlement timing are broker-specific. Use the provider’s current instructions if its interface or account conditions differ from this general sequence.

Which route should you consider?

The practical choice is the listing your broker supports and you are eligible to trade. Hong Kong H-shares are the more direct option when you already have Hong Kong market access. The Shanghai A-share route may be relevant when Northbound Stock Connect is available to you and CCB’s A-share is currently eligible. Compare the routes using your provider’s current costs, funding requirements, order handling and custody terms—not ticker alone.
