You can buy China Construction Bank (CCB) shares through a securities intermediary that serves your jurisdiction and provides access to the relevant market. First choose which listing you mean: Hong Kong H-shares, ticker 939, or Shanghai A-shares, ticker 601939. Access, order rules, settlement currency and risks differ, and neither listing is automatically the better investment.
Which China Construction Bank shares can you buy?
CCB has ordinary shares listed in two markets. Its investor FAQ identifies H-shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Main Board as ticker 939 and A-shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange as ticker 601939. The same FAQ lists board lots of 1,000 H-shares and 100 A-shares. These are issuer-published details; confirm the current order unit and rules with the intermediary you use. CCB investor FAQ

| Listing | Venue and ticker | Board lot listed by CCB | Access and settlement considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| H-shares | Hong Kong Stock Exchange Main Board, 939 | 1,000 shares | Requires an intermediary with Hong Kong market access. Check its eligibility requirements, charges, order rules and the share and settlement currencies. |
| A-shares | Shanghai Stock Exchange, 601939 | 100 shares | Access may be direct or through Northbound Stock Connect, depending on the investor and intermediary. CCB (Asia)’s described Northbound service requires securities and RMB settlement accounts and specifies eligible-stock and order restrictions. CCB (Asia) Northbound service |
Do not treat the two tickers as interchangeable search results. Nor does a difference in share price establish that one class is cheaper: currencies, access, trading rules, liquidity and investor eligibility can differ. No current price or valuation premium or discount is established here.
How to buy CCB shares
- Choose the listing. Decide whether you intend to buy Hong Kong H-shares (939) or Shanghai A-shares (601939), and check the exchange shown in the order ticket.
- Confirm access from your location. Ask a securities intermediary that is permitted to serve you whether it offers the exchange and share class you want. For Northbound Stock Connect, confirm that the stock is eligible, that your account is enabled for the service and that you meet the provider’s account requirements. CCB (Asia)’s stated requirements describe that provider’s service, not every broker’s process. CCB (Asia) Northbound service
- Check the order unit and permitted order type. CCB lists board lots of 1,000 H-shares and 100 A-shares. CCB (Asia)’s Northbound service specifies limit orders and 100-share lots, with buy orders in lot sizes. Verify the executing intermediary’s current rules, including how it handles odd lots and partial fills.
- Check settlement currency and total costs. The cited CCB (Asia) Northbound service settles in RMB. Ask the provider which currency applies to your chosen route and what conversion charges, fees and levies apply; consult its current fee schedule. If your home currency is not RMB, exchange-rate changes can affect your return.
- Review the order after submitting it. An intermediary receiving an instruction does not mean the exchange has accepted or filled it. Check the live order status and any rejection, suspension or partial-fill notice.
- Read current issuer disclosures before deciding. Review CCB’s latest results and reports, including earnings, net interest margin, asset quality, provisions and capital. Treat reported figures as historical measures, not a forecast or assurance of investment performance.
What can restrict A-share access through Stock Connect?
Northbound Stock Connect is not an unrestricted route to every Shanghai-listed share. The conditions described by CCB (Asia) include the stock’s eligibility, available daily quota, market and bank trading calendars, order requirements and foreign-shareholding limits. Different market holidays can leave one market open while the route is unavailable.
#1 Best Overall
CCB (Asia)’s service page describes a 28% aggregate foreign-ownership level at which further purchases are stopped until ownership falls to 26%, alongside a 30% aggregate cap and a 10% single-investor cap under the rules it describes. These are date-sensitive thresholds from that provider’s page; verify the current exchange and regulatory requirements before trading. Quota exhaustion, loss of eligibility or other restrictions can suspend or prevent orders. A bank’s acceptance of an instruction is not assurance of exchange acceptance or execution. What CCB’s latest reported figures can—and cannot—tell you
For the six months ended 30 June 2026, CCB reported operating income of RMB 426.333 billion, up 10.48% year on year, and net profit of RMB 171.677 billion, up 5.56%. It reported a net interest margin of 1.37% for the period. These are issuer-reported interim results; comparisons with prior periods should use the bank’s own reporting methodology. CCB 2026 interim results announcement
At 30 June 2026, CCB reported a non-performing loan (NPL) ratio of 1.29%, down 0.02 percentage points from 31 December 2025, and an allowance-to-NPL ratio of 238.69%. At the same date, its Half-Year Report showed a total capital adequacy ratio of 19.42%, Tier 1 capital ratio of 15.15% and Common Equity Tier 1 ratio of 14.24%. CCB says those capital ratios were calculated under the Rules on Capital Management of Commercial Banks. Capital ratios use regulatory definitions and risk-weighted denominators; they are not stand-alone guarantees of safety. CCB 2026 interim results announcement CCB 2026 Half-Year Report
Rank #2
A lower NPL ratio or high allowance coverage alone does not establish that lending risk is low. To understand the reported measures, read the report’s definitions and discussion of loan mix, sector and geographic concentrations, overdue and special-mention loans, provisioning and capital. The figures are published by CCB; they are not an independent audit or a prediction of future losses or returns.

Share-price and issuer risk
The share price can fall, and you can lose some or all of your investment. CCB (Asia)’s securities risk disclosure states: “Investment involves risks. The prices of securities fluctuate, sometimes dramatically. The price of a security may move up or down, and may become valueless.” Profits, dividends or capital ratios reported by the bank do not assure future results. CCB (Asia) Northbound service CCB (Asia) securities risk disclosure
Credit and asset-quality risk
As a bank, CCB can be affected by borrowers failing to repay, weakening collateral or economic conditions, and the expense of recognizing and provisioning for impaired loans. Reported NPLs are one measure, not the full picture of potential credit losses. The interim NPL and allowance figures do not determine future loss levels. CCB 2026 interim results announcement
Interest-rate and earnings risk
Changes in market rates and the timing of loan and deposit repricing can change net interest income and margins. CCB reported a 1.37% net interest margin for the first half of 2026; that period’s figure does not determine the future direction of earnings. CCB 2026 interim results announcement

If your home currency differs from the currency of your holding or settlement, exchange-rate movements can raise or reduce its value in home-currency terms. CCB (Asia) also warns that RMB is subject to convertibility and exchange controls, and that onshore and offshore RMB markets may have separate rates and liquidity. Confirm the denomination, settlement currency, conversion process and charges for your specific trading route. CCB (Asia) securities risk disclosure
Execution, liquidity and settlement risk
A limit order may not execute, and an order may be partially filled, suspended or rejected. A small odd-lot sale may also leave proceeds insufficient to cover fixed transaction fees. Online outages, delays or transmission failures can affect instructions or the execution price. Check order status and route availability rather than assuming submission means completion. CCB (Asia) Northbound service CCB (Asia) securities risk disclosure
Leverage and forced-sale risk
Borrowing to buy shares magnifies losses. CCB (Asia) warns that losses on margin may exceed the collateral, that margin calls or interest payments may be due at short notice, and that securities may be liquidated if requirements are not met. CCB (Asia) securities risk disclosure
Intermediary failure and compensation limits
CCB (Asia)’s disclosure says Hong Kong’s Investor Compensation Fund regime was expanded from 1 January 2020 to cover specified Northbound Stock Connect transactions routed through Hong Kong intermediaries. That scheme is not protection against a fall in CCB’s share price or a guarantee of investment value. Check the relevant regulator for current eligibility, scope and limits.
