Yes—but Google Play is only the doorway. When a Pixel or Samsung phone is promoted in Google Play, the link takes you to Google Store. Google Store handles the product listing, cart, payment, shipping, returns and order support; the transaction is not processed under Google Play billing rules. You can also open Google Store directly, provided it serves your country and has the model in stock.
What “buying from Google Play” actually means
Google describes Google Play as “the entry point and discovery provider” for featured hardware. In practical terms, you may see a phone promotion, banner or link inside the Play app or website, but the checkout belongs to Google Store. The distinction matters because Google Play purchase policies for apps, games, subscriptions and other digital content do not govern a physical phone order.
After you follow the hardware link, you are on Google Store. The store account, regional catalog, payment authorization, delivery estimate and order history shown there determine whether you can complete the purchase. If Play does not show a phone promotion, you can skip Play and visit the Google Store site for your region directly.

Can I buy a Pixel phone this way?
Yes, when the Pixel model is offered in your regional Google Store catalog. Search the store for “Pixel,” open the Phones category or enter a specific model name. Availability, storage choices, colors and promotions can change by country and over time.
Can I buy a Samsung phone through Google Play?
Only if a Samsung phone is currently presented through the applicable Google Store catalog or hardware promotion for your region. Do not assume that every Samsung Galaxy model is sold in every Google Store market. Start from the listing you see, then verify the model, seller information, configuration, delivery country and checkout terms before paying.

Before you start: checks that prevent a failed order
Have these details ready before opening checkout:
- The exact model name, storage capacity and color you want.
- A shipping address in the same region as the Google Store site you are using.
- A payment method that Google accepts at checkout.
- A phone number and email address you can access for order updates or payment verification.
- Your carrier’s compatibility and activation requirements if you plan to use a physical SIM or eSIM.
Google Store does not deliver to military APO/FPO addresses, PO boxes, mail-forwarding addresses or certain restricted postal codes and territories. A checkout page can reject an address even when the phone appears in stock, so confirm the destination before relying on the displayed price or delivery estimate.
Confirm the country and model first
Google’s regional availability information is model-specific. A Pixel offered in one country may be unavailable in another, and a configuration shown in a search result may disappear before you reach checkout. Samsung availability is likewise dependent on the local catalog. Treat the live regional store page—not an old article or a search snippet—as the final authority.

If a phone is out of stock, you may be able to request a back-in-stock email. That message does not reserve a device, price or promotion. You must return to the store and complete checkout while inventory and the displayed terms are still available.
Step-by-step: purchasing from the Google Play link
- Open Google Play. Follow the hardware promotion or Google Store link for the phone. If no suitable promotion appears, open Google Store directly.
- Choose the regional store. Make sure the store region matches the country where the phone will be delivered. The shipping address must remain in that same region.
- Find the product. On Google Store, search for “Pixel,” browse Phones, or enter the exact model name. For a Samsung listing, use the model shown in the promotion and check that it is a current product page.
- Open the product page. Read the listed storage, color, connectivity and included items. Select only options that are actually available for your region.
- Select Buy and Add to cart. The button labels can vary slightly by page state, but the product must appear in your cart before you can review the complete order.
- Review the cart. Check the model, storage, color, quantity, taxes or other charges shown for your address, and any promotion conditions. A promotion can be limited to a particular configuration or time period.
- Choose Checkout. Enter payment and shipping information, then follow the on-screen instructions. The checkout page supplies the current estimated delivery date for your address.
- Complete any payment verification. Google may place a temporary charge of less than $1.95 USD labeled “GOOGLE.” The verification code is the last six digits of that charge. Google says the temporary charge is refunded within 30 days.
- Submit the order. Save the order confirmation and monitor the delivery estimate in your Google Store order details or confirmation email.
What happens with a preorder?
For a preorder, Google says the authorization hold occurs at checkout and the actual charge occurs when the item ships. The initial hold is not the same as the final shipment charge. Keep enough available credit or balance for the later charge, and check the preorder page for its current estimated dispatch information.
Payment verification and temporary charges
A small “GOOGLE” charge can look like an unauthorized purchase, but Google identifies it as a payment-verification step when it appears during checkout. The amount is less than $1.95 USD, and the verification code is the charge’s final six digits.

If you cannot find the code
- Open the transaction details in your bank or card app rather than relying only on a notification preview.
- Look for the last six digits in the merchant description or expanded transaction record.
- Check whether your bank is displaying a pending authorization; the text can change when the transaction posts.
- If the code is still unavailable, use the verification instructions shown by Google Store instead of repeatedly submitting payment.
Google says the temporary verification charge is refunded within 30 days. Keep the original transaction visible until the refund appears, especially if your bank removes pending authorizations from the main activity screen.
Shipping, delivery estimates and regional restrictions
The delivery date shown at checkout is the relevant estimate for the address, configuration and stock status in your order. It is not a universal promise for every country or model. A preorder has a different timeline from an in-stock phone, and changing storage, color or region can change the estimate.
Addresses Google Store may reject
- Military APO/FPO addresses.
- PO boxes.
- Mail-forwarding addresses.
- Certain restricted postal codes or territories.
Use a complete physical address that the regional store accepts. Do not substitute a forwarding service to bypass a country restriction; the store requires the shipping address to be in the same region as the Google Store site used for the order.
When the model is unavailable in your country
A phone can be listed online in another market yet unavailable for delivery to you. Check the regional availability list and the local Google Store catalog for the exact model. If the model is absent, do not infer that changing the currency, language or account region will make it orderable. Country availability, supported configurations and shipping eligibility are separate checks.
Is the phone unlocked?
Google states that all phones sold in the Google Store come unlocked. That means the handset is not tied to one carrier at the point of sale. You still need to contact your carrier and follow its activation instructions after delivery.

SIM, eSIM and network compatibility
An unlocked phone can use a physical SIM or eSIM where supported, but unlocked does not mean universal network compatibility. The carrier and the exact model determine which bands, 5G services, calling features and eSIM functions work. Before ordering, give your carrier the precise model identifier or regional version and ask it to confirm compatibility.
What an unlocked phone does not guarantee
- Automatic activation on every carrier.
- Support for every regional 5G band.
- Access to a carrier-specific feature such as Wi-Fi calling or visual voicemail.
- Compatibility with a SIM or eSIM format your carrier does not support.
Activation is handled by the carrier, not by Google Play. Keep the order confirmation and device model information available when you contact the carrier.
Pixel software-support life: the seven-year rule
Google’s current policy gives Pixel 8 and later phones seven years of operating-system and security updates, counted from when each device first became available on the Google Store in the United States. The clock starts with that model’s original US Google Store availability, not the date you personally buy it.
Older Pixel generations have different support periods. Do not apply the seven-year figure to every Pixel; open the exact model page and read its support statement before using longevity as a buying factor.

How to use the policy when comparing models
- Identify the exact generation, not just the Pixel family name.
- Check the model’s first Google Store availability date in the United States.
- Confirm that the page explicitly includes operating-system and security updates.
- Allow for the time already elapsed since launch when estimating remaining support after your purchase.
Samsung support periods are model- and market-dependent. Verify the specific Galaxy model’s published update policy in your country rather than borrowing Google’s Pixel figure.

The Google Play link opens the wrong country
Close the promotion and open the Google Store site intended for the delivery country. Confirm that the shipping address and store region match before adding the phone to your cart. A mismatch can remove the model or block checkout.

Check whether a required configuration—such as storage or color—is out of stock. Try the configurations explicitly marked available. If none can be selected, the listing is not currently orderable even if its product page remains visible.
The price changes in the cart
Review the selected configuration, promotion eligibility, taxes and delivery details. A headline promotion may apply only to a particular model, storage tier or order period. Treat the total at checkout as the operative amount.

The address is rejected
Replace a PO box, APO/FPO address or forwarding address with an eligible physical address in the store’s region. If the postal code is restricted, Google Store may not be able to deliver there even when nearby codes are accepted.
The delivery date disappears or moves later
Recheck stock and the configuration in your order. Estimates can change when inventory changes. For a preorder, distinguish the authorization hold at checkout from the shipment date and final charge.

The carrier cannot activate the phone
Give the carrier the exact model and regional variant, then ask it to verify network bands, SIM or eSIM support and activation policy. An unlocked sale removes a carrier lock but does not remove technical or carrier-specific compatibility requirements.
The verification charge has not been refunded
Google says the temporary charge is refunded within 30 days. Keep the transaction record and contact Google Store support or your bank if that period has passed without the refund appearing.
A practical pre-purchase checklist
- Correct Google Store country selected.
- Exact Pixel or Samsung model identified.
- Desired storage, color and connectivity option available.
- Shipping address is eligible and in the same region as the store.
- Carrier has confirmed model and network compatibility.
- Cart total and promotion conditions reviewed.
- Estimated delivery date noted.
- Return and warranty terms read for your country.
- Payment account can handle a possible verification authorization and, for a preorder, the later shipment charge.
Bottom line: use Play to discover, Google Store to buy
Google Play can lead you to a Pixel or, where offered, a Samsung phone, but the purchase itself happens in Google Store. Follow the listing, verify the regional catalog and address, select the exact configuration, confirm carrier compatibility, and rely on the checkout page for the current total and delivery estimate. Google Store phones are unlocked, while network activation remains your carrier’s responsibility. For long-term Pixel ownership, apply the seven-year policy only to Pixel 8 and later and check the model’s original US Google Store availability date.
