Use browser automation to read a URL list, capture each page with full-page screenshots enabled, and save each PNG under a unique name. Keep a manifest that maps every original URL to its file and capture details; then inspect the images for redirects, access restrictions, and missing content. The example below uses Playwright with Python.
What a full-page PNG captures
A full-page screenshot captures the page’s scrollable content rather than only the visible viewport. Playwright’s screenshot API supports this with its full_page option and can save the result to a PNG filename. See the Playwright screenshots guide and Page API.

- Keep the original input list unchanged and assign each row a stable index.
- Use a unique filename per input row, such as
0001_example-com.png. Indices prevent repeated URLs or domains from overwriting earlier captures. - Maintain a manifest containing the original URL, output filename, capture time, browser and version, viewport or scale settings, and relevant page-specific notes.
- Decide what “ready” means for each site. The right wait condition depends on the page and purpose; no single delay or navigation event guarantees that all dynamic or lazy-loaded content has finished rendering.
The manifest is a practical traceability measure, not a format mandated by Playwright. The documentation supports named screenshot files and capture options; it does not prescribe an evidence-retention standard.

Capture each URL with Playwright and Python
Install Playwright and its browser binaries in your Python environment using the official installation instructions. Save this as capture_urls.py and provide one URL per line in urls.txt:

The navigation waits for domcontentloaded, which is a starting policy rather than a guarantee that every page is visually complete. The loop records failures and continues to the next URL; review each row and image instead of treating every saved file as a successful evidence capture.
Adapt readiness to the page
For pages with known content markers, wait for a selector that signals the content you need. For sites that render after scripts or user interaction, add the site-specific interaction and wait before taking the screenshot. A fixed sleep can help with a known delay, but cannot prove that all content has loaded. Record the chosen wait and interaction in the manifest so a reviewer understands the capture conditions.

Capture a single URL manually in code
The core operation for a single page is:

Review the images and manifest
- Confirm that each manifest row points to the intended unique file and original URL.
- Look for redirects, login pages, bot checks, access-denied messages, and other prompts; preserve those outcomes in the record rather than describing them as normal page captures.
- Inspect areas that load after scrolling, interaction, or a delay. A full-page setting does not guarantee every site’s lazy content or embeds have rendered.
- Record missing, blank, or partial results and recapture only after adjusting the relevant wait, authentication, or interaction setup.
- Keep the URL list, manifest, screenshots, and relevant browser settings together for the review process.
Reproducibility and evidence limits
Playwright notes that screenshot rendering may vary with the host operating system, browser version and settings, hardware, and other environmental factors. Record the browser and relevant settings when visual comparison matters, and validate repeat captures rather than assuming pixel-identical output across environments. A PNG is a record of rendered pixels, not a browser-independent copy of a web page. It may omit content that requires authentication, interaction, or later loading. The Playwright documentation cited here describes capture mechanics; it does not certify authenticity or legal admissibility. If your purpose requires formal evidentiary handling, confirm the applicable rules and preservation process for your jurisdiction and use case.

Troubleshooting common capture failures
A URL fails navigation or times out
Check that the input URL is well-formed and reachable from the machine running the script. The example catches navigation exceptions and logs them in the manifest; investigate network access, redirects, and the page’s response before labeling the image a successful capture.

The page may need a longer or more specific readiness condition, scrolling, a click, or authentication. Add only the interaction needed for that site, wait for the relevant content, and inspect the resulting image. A successful screenshot call means a file was written, not that the intended evidence is visible.
Files overwrite or cannot be matched to URLs
Use the stable input index in every filename and keep the manifest’s URL-to-file mapping. Do not name files from domain alone: multiple paths on one host, or repeated URLs, need distinct outputs.

Repeated captures look different
Record browser version, operating system, viewport, scale, and wait or interaction policy. Environment differences can affect rendering; investigate those variables before treating visual differences as changes to the page.
