To capture localized pages in bulk with Playwright, make each URL-and-locale pair its own capture, set the locale on a fresh browser context, wait for a site-specific readiness signal, and save to a path that identifies the locale and page. For larger batches, use Playwright Test with a bounded worker count. Locale emulation influences browser behavior; it does not guarantee that a site will display a translation.
Choose how to represent each localized capture
Start with explicit input data: one record per page and locale. If a site exposes localized routes, use those URLs rather than assuming it will choose the desired translation from the browser locale alone.

Capture a small batch with the Playwright library
This sequential Node.js example creates a separate context for each locale, navigates to each URL, waits for an example heading, and saves a full-page PNG. Replace the heading check with a reliable condition for your site; if no stable marker exists, use an appropriate application-ready condition rather than assuming a fixed delay is sufficient.

Why a new context per locale?
Locale belongs to the browser context configuration. Creating a context for each capture makes the intended locale explicit and avoids accidentally reusing locale-specific cookies or storage across captures. Contexts also provide isolated browser state; the Isolation documentation describes separate BrowserContexts for isolated tests.
Make filenames safe for batches
The example stores output as screenshots/<locale>/<pageKey>.png. Use a stable page key, and include a project or run identifier if concurrent jobs might write the same locale and page. This naming convention is your own organization choice, not an automatic Playwright feature.
Scale up with Playwright Test
When you have many locale/page pairs, Playwright Test gives you test organization and worker orchestration. Treat each pair as an independent case, choose a worker cap appropriate for your machine and the target site, and make output paths unique across concurrent workers.

For example, a test can use the locale in its test configuration and use the same site-specific readiness check and screenshot path convention as the library example. The exact fixture and configuration structure depends on your project. Consult the official Projects and Parallelism documentation for the installed version.
Set a worker limit from the CLI with npx playwright test --workers=4; adjust the number to fit your host and the load the site can tolerate. The CLI documentation covers worker configuration. Avoid relying on process-local shared state: parallel tests run in worker processes, and their browser contexts are separate.
When to use projects
Projects are useful when the same capture cases need to run under distinct browser or device configurations. Playwright projects can target Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit; adding engines increases coverage as well as runtime and maintenance work. See the Projects and Browsers guides.

A viewport screenshot records the visible fold; a full-page screenshot captures the scrollable page. Choose based on whether the comparison is about the initial experience or the entire localized page. Specify the output path and any desired screenshot options explicitly, and use a stable output format such as PNG for visual review.

For visual regression, Playwright Test screenshot assertions can create reference screenshots and compare later runs. Keep the browser and host environment consistent when generating and checking baselines: Playwright’s Visual comparisons guide states that rendering can vary with host OS, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, headless mode, and other factors.
Common failures and fixes
- The page appears in the wrong language: locale emulation does not force a translation. Check the URL, confirm the site supports that locale, and assert a locale-specific heading or other visible signal before saving.
- The screenshot is blank or incomplete: navigation completion is not necessarily application readiness. Wait for a stable element or an application-specific ready state before capture.
- Output files overwrite one another: include locale and page key in the path; include a project or run identifier where simultaneous runs can share a destination.
- Parallel runs overload the site or host: lower the worker count, then increase it only if both the machine and target site can handle the additional concurrent work.
- Visual baselines differ between runs: compare under a consistent OS, browser version, settings, hardware conditions, and headless mode before attributing the difference to translation changes.
- Locale appears correct but date or time behavior is unexpected: timezone is a separate emulation setting; Playwright notes that timezone emulation does not set the test runner’s timezone. Configure and verify each separately if the page renders localized dates.
Performance, repeatability, and cost
The sequential script is a simple baseline, not a throughput benchmark. It processes one capture at a time; Playwright Test workers can increase concurrency, but the suitable limit depends on the machine and the website. No universal throughput figure follows from the documented workflow.
For repeatable comparisons, keep browser engine, browser version, host environment, viewport, and capture options stable. Decide whether the page content should be full-page or viewport-only, and ensure each locale has a reliable readiness condition. If translations load asynchronously, capturing too early can produce a technically successful but misleading image.
