Identify the exact set and get its instructions
Look for set number 42156 on the box or in LEGO’s official instruction listing. LEGO identifies it as the PEUGEOT 9X8 24H Le Mans Hybrid Hypercar, with 1,775 pieces, an 18+ age rating and a 2023 set year. The official instruction page offers a downloadable PDF; use that numbered manual as the authority for part placement and build order.

LEGO’s UK product page currently labels the set “Retired product.” That describes the UK storefront status, not availability everywhere: it does not establish whether another regional LEGO store or an independent seller has a copy. The instruction listing is separate from the product listing, so the retired label does not mean the PDF instructions are unavailable.
Choose paper, PDF or the optional Builder app
The PDF is the straightforward choice if you want to follow LEGO’s official steps on a screen or print them. Keep the current step visible while building, and enlarge diagrams when a connector’s orientation or a pin’s position is difficult to distinguish.

LEGO also describes its Builder app as an optional aid. It can organize instructions, zoom and rotate a model in 3D, save sets and track progress. It is not required to assemble 42156; the official PDF is sufficient. Choose the format that lets you see the diagrams clearly without losing your place.
Prepare your space before opening the bags
A large Technic model is easier to manage when small parts stay contained and the instructions remain easy to consult. Set aside a clear, stable work surface, good lighting and a few small containers for loose pieces. These are general building conveniences, not special tools LEGO identifies as required for this set.
- Keep the numbered instructions within view and work in their printed order.
- Open and sort parts as the manual directs rather than mixing every small connector together at once.
- Compare a part with the diagram before pressing it into a tight assembly. Technic pins, axles and beams can look similar while having different lengths or orientations.
- Keep the model supported when turning it to reach the underside, especially as the chassis and bodywork grow.
LEGO’s 18+ rating is the set’s stated audience classification. It is not a published build-time estimate or an independently measured difficulty score. LEGO has not established a specific build duration, a separate required-tool list or a step-by-step list of known failure points for this guide, so plan around your own pace rather than a promised number of hours.

Follow the numbered manual through the mechanical core
Technic assemblies depend on correct alignment: a pin or axle in the wrong position can affect the movement of parts connected later. Build each subassembly in the sequence shown, check the diagram from more than one angle when needed, and avoid forcing a beam or connector that does not line up. If the structure does not match the picture, pause and compare it with the current step before adding more parts.
Check the steering as it comes together
LEGO specifies steering operated either by the model’s steering wheel or by a gear wheel on top. Once the relevant parts are assembled according to the manual, turn the control gently and look for a corresponding change in the front wheels. If they do not respond as the instructions depict, recheck the parts and their orientation against the current diagrams rather than forcing the mechanism.
Observe the engine and rear-wheel connection
The advertised model includes a V6 piston engine connected to the rear wheels. As the manual builds this mechanism, observe how the moving engine parts and drivetrain relate; LEGO describes these as features of the model, not a complete representation of the real race car’s engineering. When the instructions show the mechanism assembled, move the mechanism gently as illustrated and check that its parts can travel without being obstructed by a misplaced nearby component.

Keep the hybrid details in perspective
LEGO also lists a model electric motor and battery. These are modeled elements of the display build. Their presence does not establish that the LEGO car is a functioning hybrid vehicle, nor does the feature list specify a separate powered operating system. Follow the manual for how these elements fit into the model instead of treating them as real-world vehicle components.

Let the suspension remain free to move
The product specification lists both front and rear suspension. Assemble these parts in the illustrated positions, then check that the suspension can move gently in the way the finished model allows. Do not press hard to test travel: the point is to notice an obstruction or a visibly incorrect connection, not to measure performance or force a particular amount of movement.
Add the bodywork, doors, livery and lights
After the structural and mechanical assemblies, follow the numbered instructions for the body panels and finishing details. The set has opening doors, livery graphics and PEUGEOT and sponsor logos. Treat printed or decorated parts as orientation-sensitive: compare their position with the illustration before attaching them, and handle them carefully so you do not need to remove them repeatedly.

LEGO lists Technic light elements that glow in the dark. These are glow-in-the-dark elements, not a claim that the model has powered headlights. Once they are installed, compare their placement with the manual and view them under suitable conditions if you want to see the glow effect.

LEGO gives the completed model’s dimensions as over 13 cm high, 50 cm long and 22 cm wide. Allow roughly 50 cm of clear length for display, with additional room if you want to reach the doors or handle the car. The height figure is qualified as “over” 13 cm; it should not be treated as an exact maximum.
Before putting the model on display, use the instruction diagrams to review the visible bodywork and check the functions that LEGO specifies:

- Turn the steering wheel or top gear gently and confirm the front wheels respond.
- Move the model carefully to observe the rear-wheel-connected piston mechanism.
- Check that the front and rear suspension are not visibly blocked.
- Open and close the doors gently, and inspect the livery and logo placement.
These are practical checks based on LEGO’s listed features, not a set-specific quality-control test. If something seems misaligned, compare the relevant assembly with the official diagrams before removing parts or applying force.
Buying a copy: distinguish launch prices from today’s offers
The set’s retired UK storefront label means current availability and pricing can vary by region and seller. LEGO’s historical release announcement listed launch-era prices of €199.99, US$199.99 and £169.99 in 2023. Those are original regional prices, not current-market estimates or a promise of what a copy should cost now.
If considering an independent marketplace listing, assess the seller, the stated condition, whether all pieces and instructions are included, the price in your region, and the return terms. A listing’s claim that a set is complete is not proof of completeness. No particular marketplace’s stock or current price is established here.

Why the set is tied to Le Mans
LEGO’s June 10, 2023 announcement connected the model’s release with the centenary of the Le Mans 24-hour race. The official announcement quoted then-PEUGEOT CEO Linda Jackson saying the companies had worked closely on the model and were happy it was available to fans. That release context explains the 24H Le Mans name; it does not change the assembly instructions or establish additional functions beyond the product features LEGO lists.
