The reliable way to build an interactive quiz in WordPress is to use a quiz plugin, configure questions and results in that plugin, then publish the quiz with its WordPress block or shortcode. Choose the tool only after deciding whether you need a scored test, personality result, survey, trivia game, or lead-generation form.
1. Decide what the quiz must do
Start with the outcome, because a knowledge test and a personality quiz need different scoring and result logic.
- Knowledge test or exam: correct answers, points, a pass mark, and possibly explanations.
- Personality or outcome quiz: answer patterns or score ranges that map to result bands.
- Trivia: quick feedback, a final score, and optional answer explanations.
- Survey: response collection where there may be no right answer.
- Lead-generation quiz: a result plus selected contact fields and, potentially, an integration with another service.
Write down the result you want visitors to see, the question formats required, and whether responses or contact details must be stored before choosing a plugin.

Review each plugin’s current compatibility, support, privacy documentation, and feature tiers before installation. QSM’s listing reports 40,000+ websites and a 4.7-star rating from more than 1,200 reviews at the time of access; those are promotional listing metrics, not an independent quality evaluation.
3. Create and save your questions

- In the WordPress dashboard, open the plugin’s Questions area.
- Add a question and choose its type, such as radio, checkbox, dropdown, text, matching, or ranking.
- Enter the possible answers.
- For a scored question, mark the correct answer or answers and assign the appropriate scoring behavior.
- Save the question, then repeat until the question bank is complete.
Design questions for the result you need
- Use one clearly correct answer for conventional knowledge tests.
- Use checkbox questions only when multiple answers really are correct, and explain whether partial credit is possible.
- Use text or fill-in-the-blank questions when exact wording can be evaluated reliably; otherwise, they may require manual review.
- Keep answer choices mutually exclusive and write feedback that explains the answer instead of merely displaying “wrong.”
4. Assemble the quiz and configure results
Create a quiz, give it a descriptive title and optional instructions, then select the saved questions. The exact labels differ by plugin, but the decisions are the same.

- Set points or weights for each question.
- Define the pass mark and what appears for passing and failing attempts.
- Choose whether to show the score immediately, reveal correct answers, provide explanations, or redirect after completion.
- Decide whether visitors can retake the quiz and whether attempts are recorded.
Personality and outcome quizzes
- Create score ranges or answer-to-outcome rules.
- Write a distinct result message for every range and check that no possible score falls between ranges.
- Explain that the result is an informational outcome when it is not a diagnostic or professional assessment.
Surveys and lead-generation quizzes
- Remove right-answer scoring when the goal is opinion or feedback.
- Ask for only the contact fields needed for the stated purpose.
- Tell visitors what will happen to their responses, how long they may be retained, and how to request help with their data according to your site’s policies.
5. Publish the quiz on a page or post
Using a block
- Open or create the WordPress page or post where the quiz should appear.
- Insert the plugin’s quiz block from the block inserter.
- Select the quiz you created and save or publish the page.
QSM’s listing specifically says that a quiz or survey can be added to a post or page with its QSM block.
Using a shortcode
- Open the plugin’s quiz list and copy the shortcode for the finished quiz.
- Paste it into the page or post’s Shortcode block, or into the editor location supported by your theme.
- Save, then view the public page to confirm that the shortcode renders as a quiz rather than as plain text.

6. Check the visitor experience before sharing
- Open the published page in a logged-out browser or private window.
- Complete every question type, including unanswered and multiple-answer cases.
- Verify that the score, pass/fail message, result range, explanations, and redirects match your rules.
- Check the layout on a phone and desktop, keyboard navigation, readable labels, and error messages.
- Submit a test response and confirm that any intended result or contact record appears in the plugin’s reporting area.
- Review confirmation emails and integrations without using a real subscriber’s personal data.
7. Handle responses and privacy deliberately
Lead capture and stored results are features, not automatic permission to collect data. Limit fields to what the quiz needs, explain the purpose at the point of collection, and review the selected plugin’s current privacy documentation alongside your site’s own policy. The plugin listings describe capabilities, but they do not determine the legal requirements for your country, audience, or industry. Delete test submissions and set an appropriate retention process before launch.

The quiz is visible only as text
Use the plugin’s designated block or a Shortcode block, and copy the complete shortcode. A shortcode pasted into a code or paragraph context that does not process shortcodes may not render.

Results do not match the intended outcome
Check each question’s correct-answer flags, point values, and score-range boundaries. Test the lowest, highest, and boundary scores, not only a typical attempt.
A contact field is missing
Confirm whether the field is included in the plugin’s free tier, requires a Pro extension, or belongs to a separate form or integration. Do not promise a field in the quiz instructions until it is available on the active plan.
