Abacus AI Agent lets you describe an application in plain language, generate a working preview, refine it conversationally, connect data and authentication, and deploy the result without assembling a local development stack. You can publish a web app at an abacusai.app address or attach a verified custom domain. The same workflow can package cross-platform projects for Android and iOS, although mobile distribution adds signing, store-account and review requirements.
The reliable approach is incremental: start with one small user journey, inspect every generated checkpoint, add backend services only when the feature needs them, and test the public build before inviting users. The steps below follow that order and identify where web, Android and iOS releases differ.

Choose the smallest useful first release
A narrowly defined first version gives the agent fewer interacting requirements to solve at once. The official guide recommends starting with a simple app, asking for one task at a time, testing often and expanding through checkpoints because language-model output can be unpredictable (Abacus.AI’s step-by-step app guidance).
Write a one-screen specification
State the audience, the single job the app performs, the inputs, the output and the success condition. For example:
Build a web app for a support team. The first screen has a text box for a customer question and a “Find answer” button. Search the connected knowledge base, show the three most relevant passages with source titles, and display a clear message when no match is found. Do not add accounts or billing yet.This prompt establishes a complete vertical slice without asking for a dashboard, billing system and mobile clients simultaneously.

Add constraints that prevent rework
- List required screens and the navigation between them.
- Specify which fields are required, their validation rules and what happens on an empty or invalid submission.
- Describe the data that must persist and who may read or edit it.
- Define the AI behavior, including a fallback when the model is uncertain.
- Request accessible labels, keyboard operation and responsive layouts from the start.
Build the app in Abacus AI Agent
1. Start the project with a focused prompt
Open Abacus AI Agent, describe the first user journey and submit it. Keep the initial request to one coherent feature. A useful second prompt asks for implementation details that affect the first flow, such as “store each question and answer with a timestamp for the signed-in user” rather than “add every administration feature.”

2. Inspect the generated preview
Use the App pane’s Preview tab to run the generated version in the browser. Exercise the happy path and deliberately submit missing, malformed and unusually long inputs. Check loading indicators, error messages, mobile-width layout and whether the output cites the right data.
A browser preview is not the same as a phone install. For a real-device check, use the Deploy flow to create a mobile package and install it on a test device (Abacus.AI mobile-app guide).
3. Request one change at a time
Describe the observed problem and the intended result in plain language. “On the results screen, keep the search box visible and show a retry button when the API times out” is easier to verify than “improve the UX.” After each meaningful change, return to Preview and test the original journey as well as the new behavior.

The AI Agent workflow supports checkpointing so you can preview versions and deploy the one that meets your acceptance criteria (AI Agent Apps guide). Treat a checkpoint as a candidate build: record what changed, test it, and avoid layering unrelated requests until the current behavior is understood.

Connect data, authentication and AI features
Decide whether the app needs a backend

Abacus AI Agent documentation lists database integration and authentication among the available building blocks, along with LLM-powered chat, document Q&A and generation (AI Agent Apps guide). Ask for the data model explicitly: name each entity, identify relationships, define required fields and state who can create, read, update or delete each record.
Protect credentials and user data
- Keep model, database and third-party credentials in server-side configuration; never paste them into client-side code or prompts that will be shown to users.
- Require authentication before exposing personal records, and test that one account cannot request another account’s identifiers.
- Minimize stored content, define retention, and provide a deletion path appropriate to your users and jurisdiction.
- Log failures without writing full passwords, access tokens or sensitive document text to logs.
Design for uncertain model output
Tell the agent what the app should do when the model is unsure, unavailable or returns malformed data. Add a visible retry action, a human-review route for consequential decisions and output validation before writing model results to your database. Generated code can appear plausible while failing at an edge case, so test representative and adversarial inputs before release.
Test a generated app before deployment
Use a repeatable test pass instead of relying on a single successful prompt.

- Validation: submit blank, oversized, incorrectly formatted and duplicate values; confirm the app explains how to recover.
- Authorization: test signed-out access, a normal user and an administrator separately. Attempt direct navigation to protected URLs.
- Failure handling: simulate a slow or unavailable model/database request and verify timeout, retry and non-destructive behavior.
- Responsive layout: check narrow phone width, tablet width and desktop; inspect focus order and keyboard-only operation.
- Data quality: compare generated answers with known source material and verify citations or source labels where your use case requires them.
Keep a short acceptance checklist with each checkpoint. If a change fixes one screen but breaks another, return to the last working checkpoint and make a smaller request.

Deploy a web app
When the build passes your checks, select Deploy in the top-right of the App pane. Abacus.AI presents a domain choice and generates a public URL (App deployment and custom domains).

Connect a custom domain step by step
- Register or use a domain you control and decide whether the app belongs at the apex (for example,
example.com) or a subdomain (for example,app.example.com). - In Abacus.AI’s deployment screen, choose the custom-domain option and copy the exact A or CNAME values shown for your app.
- Open your registrar or DNS host, create the requested records, and remove conflicting records for the same hostname. Leave unrelated records, such as mail records, intact.
- Return to the deployment screen and start verification. DNS changes usually appear within minutes but can take up to 48 hours (custom-domain deployment documentation).
- After verification, select the domain in Deploy, publish, and test both the exact URL and any redirect behavior you configured.
Abacus.AI’s deployment FAQ states that hosting on a user’s own domain has no extra charge beyond the monthly subscription; subscription terms can change, so confirm the current plan before committing to a launch (deployment and custom-domain FAQ).
Common web-deployment failures
- Verification fails: compare the record name and value character-for-character, check for an old A/CNAME record, and allow the full DNS propagation window.
- The site opens but assets fail: redeploy the current checkpoint and inspect browser errors for hard-coded development URLs or blocked API requests.
- Users see stale behavior: verify that the intended checkpoint was deployed, then test in a private window or after clearing cached assets.
- Backend calls fail publicly: confirm the backend was deployed and that production environment variables, allowed origins and authentication settings differ correctly from preview settings.
Package and publish a mobile app
The mobile workflow can produce cross-platform iOS, Android and web apps, or a frontend-only mobile client. A full-stack mobile app requires the backend to be deployed first; the agent generally handles that deployment at a checkpoint (Building mobile apps with Abacus.AI).

Build a mobile package
- Tell the agent whether you want a cross-platform app, a web app, a frontend-only client or a full-stack mobile project. Name the target platform(s) and the screens that must work offline or with poor connectivity.
- Run the browser preview and fix functional issues before requesting a package. A mobile build does not replace web testing.
- For a full-stack project, deploy and verify the backend first. Confirm that the mobile client points to the production endpoint rather than a preview address.
- Choose the Deploy flow for the desired platform and provide the requested package and signing details.
- Install the APK on a test Android device, or use the IPA/TestFlight route for iOS. Test login, push or deep-link behavior, permissions, rotation and interrupted network requests on real hardware.
- Prepare the relevant store listing, privacy disclosures, screenshots and review information, then submit through Google Play or Apple’s review process.
Abacus.AI’s current mobile guide gives a typical packaging time of 10–15 minutes; larger apps may take longer (mobile-app guide). Store review and approval are external processes, so a successful package build is not the same as a published store listing.

Many teams use both: validate the feature at an Abacus.AI URL, move the approved web build to a custom subdomain, and package mobile clients only after the backend and account model are stable.
Production-readiness checklist
- Define one owner for the deployed app, domain and store accounts.
- Confirm the deployed checkpoint contains the intended screens, environment variables and backend version.
- Test authorization boundaries with multiple accounts and revoke test credentials before launch.
- Document what user data is sent to an AI model, how long it is retained and how users can delete it.
- Provide a human support or escalation route for incorrect or harmful generated answers.
- Set a recovery plan: know which checkpoint is stable and how to redeploy it if a new iteration fails.
- Monitor authentication errors, failed model calls, latency and unexpected database growth after release.
- Re-test the public URL after DNS changes and the mobile package after every backend contract change.
Limits to plan for
Prompt-driven generation reduces setup work but does not remove software-engineering responsibilities. Ambiguous requirements can produce an attractive interface with incomplete data rules; a model can return a confident but wrong answer; and a generated integration can fail under rate limits or network interruptions. Keep prompts specific, make small changes, inspect each checkpoint and retain tests that represent real user behavior.
DNS verification can delay a web launch, while mobile packaging and external store review add separate waiting periods. Apple distribution specifically depends on the publisher’s credentials and Apple Developer Program membership (mobile-app requirements). Confirm current subscription and hosting terms before launch because pricing and plan entitlements are subject to change.
