It describes a workflow using Make, Airtable, OpenAI API calls and Beehiiv; keep a human approval step before anything goes to subscribers.
What the $500-a-month claim does—and does not—mean
A title-matched implementation article on DEV Community presents a newsletter workflow and frames two sponsors per month as a baseline income source. That is the author’s account, not audited revenue evidence, a controlled test or proof of typical earnings. It does not establish that the workflow produced $500 in monthly profit, or that the same result is repeatable.

Treat $500 as a target to plan toward, not a forecast. Actual results depend on the publication’s audience, niche, offer, sponsorship demand and operating costs. Track revenue separately from expenses, including any costs for software, content production and promotion.
How the reported workflow is assembled
The implementation article describes three Make scenarios, an Airtable base and two OpenAI API calls, alongside Beehiiv for the newsletter. It presents these components as a way to connect repeatable research and publishing tasks. The article is an individual account; it does not demonstrate that the setup has been independently reproduced.
#1 Best Overall
1. Use Airtable to organize the workflow
Keep ideas, research notes, draft status and review decisions in a structured place. In the reported setup, Airtable is the base around which the scenarios and AI calls are organized. Define the fields and handoffs clearly so that an automated step does not mistake an incomplete idea for an approved newsletter.
2. Connect repeatable tasks with Make
The author describes three Make scenarios to move work between the workflow components. Use automation for predictable handoffs—such as routing an item for drafting or moving a completed draft into a review queue—rather than treating every step as safe to publish automatically.

3. Use OpenAI API calls for bounded tasks
The example uses two API calls. A practical design is to give each call a narrow job, such as turning prepared notes into a draft or checking that the draft follows a defined structure. AI-generated text can still contain errors, omissions or unsupported claims, so an API response is not a substitute for editorial review.

These materials establish that platform capabilities exist; they do not show that an agent can independently ensure accuracy or editorial quality.
- Beehiiv Agent support documentation describes assistance with newsletter tasks.
- Beehiiv signup-flow documentation describes Agent support for signup flows.
- Beehiiv product updates describe AI and platform features, including a connector for external AI tools.

Ways a newsletter can earn money
Beehiiv’s monetization materials identify paid subscriptions, its ad network and paid recommendations as possible revenue routes. They are platform options, not guaranteed placements or income. Whether any route works depends on audience fit, eligibility, conversion and demand.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Paid subscriptions: Offer additional value to readers willing to pay. The publication must persuade readers that the paid offer is worth the price.
- Advertising: Ads can provide revenue when the publication attracts suitable advertisers or qualifies for placements. The platform’s feature availability does not guarantee demand.
- Paid recommendations: Recommendations can be another monetization option, but participation and earnings are not assured.
For the example’s two-sponsors-per-month framing, calculate the amount actually received and subtract expenses before treating it as income. The article does not establish sponsor rates, recurring demand or net profit.
Keep the workflow dependable without pretending it runs itself
- Set a human approval checkpoint before every send.
- Require sources or supporting notes for factual claims, and check them before publication.
- Track whether each automated step succeeded; route failures and incomplete drafts to a person instead of silently advancing them.
- Review performance and costs over time. Do not infer a stable monthly result from a single anecdote or a target figure.
- Check current feature availability and pricing with the providers; the cited materials do not establish current costs or plan limits for Make, Airtable, OpenAI or Beehiiv.
The strongest use of agents here is to reduce repetitive work while keeping editorial judgment and send approval with a person. Automation can make a newsletter process more efficient; it cannot by itself establish audience demand, sponsor revenue or a dependable $500 monthly return.
