Choose your role before your class
Start with the job you want your character to do. A ranged damage dealer, durable melee fighter, fast assassin, healer, or flexible solo character will value different strengths. In a party, role coverage can matter more than maximizing one character’s damage; alone, durability and recovery can be more important because no teammate is there to protect or heal you.

- Ranged damage: Favor a class whose reach and damage style suit keeping enemies at a distance.
- Melee damage: Decide whether you want a durable fighter or a faster, more fragile attacker.
- Support: A healer may be more useful in a coordinated party than when playing alone.
- Solo play: Consider whether your damage choices leave enough room for health and sustain to handle mistakes or longer fights.
Pocket Gamer’s September 2, 2026 tier list places Archer, Magician, and Samurai in S tier, Warrior in A, Thief and Striker in B, and Priest in C. That is the publication’s editorial ranking, not the result of a controlled performance comparison. Its descriptions characterize Archer as burst-oriented ranged damage, Magician as ranged DPS with buffs, Warrior as durable melee with crowd control, Thief as a swift but squishy assassin, Striker as melee with less tankiness, and Priest as a healer with greater value in a party. How the six base classes fit common playstyles
A community wiki search result lists six base classes: Warrior, Archer, Thief, Striker, Magician, and Priest. The same result says subclasses are chosen at level 30, but the wiki pages could not be opened. Pocket Gamer’s later tier list also includes Samurai without clarifying its progression category. Check the current in-game class interface for class names, subclass choices, and unlock requirements rather than relying on an older progression description.

Choose a species to complement the class
Species traits can make a class pairing more comfortable, but the available pairings are dated recommendations rather than permanent rules. Pro Game Guides’ combinations guide was updated June 17, 2025. It discusses the following synergies; verify trait names, effects, and species availability in the current game before treating any as a build requirement.

Prioritize stats by damage type, then add survivability
A community wiki search-result snippet describes five core stats: Strength increases physical damage; Agility increases physical damage and critical chance; Intellect increases magic damage and magic critical chance; Stamina increases maximum health; and Spirit increases health and mana regeneration. It associates Warrior and Striker with Strength, Thief and Archer with Agility, and Magician and Priest with Intellect. Because the wiki page identifies itself as a stub and could not be opened, treat this as broad guidance and confirm each stat’s live tooltip before spending points.

- Identify your damage type. For physical offense, the available guidance points to Strength or Agility depending on class; for magic offense, it points to Intellect.
- Check whether your build needs more safety. If you regularly die before finishing fights, or you play solo without a dedicated healer, consider health through Stamina or recovery through Spirit.
- Adjust to your actual role. A party damage dealer may choose offense differently from a healer, durable front-line fighter, or solo character who needs to sustain longer encounters.
- Use in-game tooltips to decide exact allocations. No substantiated point split, breakpoint, or damage-scaling formula is available here, so do not treat a fixed stat ratio as an optimized build.
Published loadouts are starting points, not current best-in-slot builds
Pro Game Guides’ “Best Builds in Rune Slayer – All Classes,” updated June 17, 2025, gives complete example recipes for six classes. The page supplies class, species, subclass, weapon, armor, and rune suggestions, but no independent testing evidence. Item names, drops, and subclass labels may have changed since publication; check the current game before farming or investing around a recipe.

A practical way to settle between candidate builds
When two builds both look viable, compare them against the content you actually play rather than treating a tier label as a verdict.
- Reach: Does ranged play help you control distance, or do you prefer melee engagement?
- Damage shape: Do you want burst damage, sustained damage, or buffs and support?
- Staying power: Can you survive mistakes and recover between fights at your current level and gear?
- Party contribution: Does the group already have healing or front-line durability, or would your build fill a missing role?
- Species fit: Does the species trait support the class’s needs, according to current in-game descriptions?
- Current availability: Are the named subclass, weapon, armor, and runes still present and realistically obtainable in your game version?
For a new build, first make sure the class and species feel right in the role you chose. Then invest toward the corresponding offensive stat and add survivability only where actual play shows it is needed. Treat dated guides as candidates to test in game, not instructions to follow blindly.
