The most reliable early-game plan in Infinity Kingdom is to build one four-Immortal march around a single element and its Dragon, then invest in characters you can actually obtain and upgrade. Element matching supplies useful bonuses, but it is not a substitute for role coverage, sensible front-row and back-row placement, compatible skills, and a roster that your server makes accessible.
For many limited-spend beginners, the Water route is the practical starting point described by the 2021 official lineup guide. Earth is a reasonable alternative when you already have strong Earth Immortals or can afford its higher investment. Both recommendations come from older guides, so treat them as frameworks rather than a current universal tier list.

The early-game team structure
Every march uses four Immortals and one Dragon. Immortals provide the active and passive skills that determine how the march deals damage, survives pressure, and supports itself; the Dragon contributes its own skills and unit attribute bonuses. Because the team is small, every slot has a visible effect on the march’s performance.
The official forum guide summarizes the structure plainly: “Each team consists of four Immortals and a Dragon.” It also advises players to develop units of the same element whenever possible. Matching elements increases the relevant elemental aura bonuses, and those bonuses stack as more members of the march share the element.

That does not mean four matching characters automatically beat every mixed team. An elementally pure march with no durable front line or recovery can fail quickly, while a slightly mixed march with better skills may perform more consistently. Use the element bonus as your default direction, then check whether the actual Immortals you own cover the jobs your activities require.
What to decide before spending resources
- Which element has several Immortals you can recruit, awaken, and level on your server?
- Which Dragon can you obtain and improve without delaying your main march?
- Does the proposed lineup include a front-line damage absorber, a damage source, and support or healing?
- Can the Immortals’ skills work together, or do several characters perform the same job while leaving another job uncovered?
Choose the element you can develop consistently
The best early-game element is usually the one you can advance steadily, not the one that appears strongest in an old guide. Character availability, summoning schedules, events, server age, balance patches, and your own spending all affect the answer. A theoretically superior lineup that remains underleveled is less useful than a coherent team whose stars, skills, equipment, and Dragon levels keep moving forward.
Water: the lower-spend starting direction
GTarcade’s 2021 official lineup guide presents Water as the best-value main troop for players with limited spending. Its sample Water march places Brynhild and Lancelot in front, with Helen of Troy and Tomoe Gozen in the back. The guide names Harald III or Eulji Mundeok as possible replacements when obtained, and Yoshitsune as a later back-row replacement.
The same guide says the Water Dragon Egg is obtained through the tutorial. That makes Water an attractive route when you want an element and Dragon aligned from the beginning without relying on a costly acquisition plan. Confirm the actual tutorial reward and current availability in your own server, because the guide is from 2021 and game systems can change.
Do not treat the named Water lineup as mandatory. If one of the listed Immortals is unavailable, substitute a character who preserves the march’s missing function. For example, replacing a front-line character with another damage dealer may leave the team unable to hold formation; replacing a back-row damage source with a second support may make fights safe but too slow. Preserve the role first and the exact name second.
Earth: a conditional higher-investment route
The same official guide describes Earth as a potentially stronger overall direction, but also as the more expensive choice. Its example places Alexander the Great and Boudicca in front, with Cleopatra and Isabella of Castile behind. Leonidas and Zenobia are listed as possible replacements. The guide says the Earth Dragon Egg is rewarded at Story Mission Chapter 7.
A separate GTarcade Earth guide gives a different progression picture. It describes a basic Earth team that can be reached early and emphasizes defense and control. Its advanced example uses Charles the Great and Alexander the Great in front, Cleopatra for back-row damage and control, and Zenobia for healing. The variation between these examples matters: there is no single fixed Earth roster established across the guides.

Choose Earth when your account already has useful Earth Immortals, when you are prepared for the additional investment described by the official guide, or when your server’s current acquisition path makes the characters practical. Do not spend heavily merely to copy an older list. Verify the current chapter rewards, recruitment options, and upgrade requirements in game.

These are dated guide descriptions, not a current ranking. They do not establish present-day PvP strength, exact server-specific acquisition schedules, or current shop and bundle availability.
Assign jobs before you assign names
A strong early march covers several functions instead of collecting four characters that all attack in the same way. A useful framework is damage dealer, tank, support, and healer. One Immortal can cover more than one function, and some teams use control in place of dedicated healing, but every major weakness should have an answer.
Front-line durability
Your front line receives the pressure that would otherwise reach fragile back-row units. Look for Immortals whose skills, troop type, or attributes help them survive long enough for the rest of the march to act. A front line does not have to be passive: a durable damage dealer or control specialist can protect the team while still contributing to victory.

Damage
At least one slot should provide dependable damage against the activity you are running. Burst damage can end a short fight before the opponent’s skills cycle, while sustained damage is more valuable in longer encounters. Read the skill descriptions together rather than judging a character by attack numbers alone: a damage skill that benefits from a particular element, target condition, or control effect may be stronger in the right combination.
Support and control
Support skills can improve the march’s output, reduce incoming damage, cleanse effects, or control opposing units. Control is especially useful when it prevents an enemy from using a decisive skill, but it should not leave the team without enough damage to finish the fight. Avoid filling multiple slots with narrow versions of the same support effect unless the activity specifically rewards it.
Healing and recovery
A healer or reliable recovery effect helps the march remain functional through repeated PvE fights. Zenobia is identified as a healer in the advanced Earth example. If your available lineup has no healer, compensate with stronger mitigation, control, or shorter fight times, and monitor whether wounded units force you into excessive downtime.

Element and skill interaction
Elemental bonuses, Immortal skills, equipment, and Tower of Knowledge skills all contribute to the final result. A matching element improves the aura, but an aura cannot repair a team whose skills overlap badly. Before committing scarce materials, inspect each Immortal’s skill targets, timing, damage type, defensive effects, and any stated interaction with allies or enemies.

Place Immortals correctly
Positioning has a hard rule in the official lineup guide: Bowmen belong in the back row. Spearmen, Cavalry, and Shieldmen can occupy the front row. Use the troop type as your first placement check, then consider the character’s skill range and durability.
Front row
- Place Shieldmen, Spearmen, and Cavalry in the front row, following the troop-type restriction.
- Prioritize the Immortals who can absorb damage, reduce incoming damage, or create time for allies to cast.
- If two front-row characters are available, pair a durable protector with a front-line attacker or control unit rather than two fragile attackers.
Back row
- Keep Bowmen in the back row.
- Place fragile damage dealers, healers, and support characters where they are less exposed to direct attacks.
- Check whether a back-row skill has a preferred target or range; a powerful effect aimed at the wrong position can reduce its practical value.
Elemental strengths and vulnerabilities also matter. Matching your own element does not remove the need to inspect the opposing march. If a fight repeatedly defeats your back row, improve protection or control before simply adding more attack.
Build the first march step by step
- Inspect your roster. List the Immortals you can currently recruit and upgrade, their troop types, and their principal skills. Mark which ones are front-row legal and which Bowmen must remain behind.
- Choose one element. Prefer the element with at least four workable Immortals and a Dragon you can develop. Use Water as the limited-spend starting direction described by the 2021 official guide, or consider Earth when its characters are genuinely accessible to you.
- Assign the four jobs. Identify your durable front-line unit, primary damage source, support or control option, and healing or secondary damage option. If one character covers two jobs, make sure another character covers the job that remains.
- Place the march legally. Put Bowmen in back and Spearmen, Cavalry, and Shieldmen in front. Then adjust within those rows according to durability and skill targeting.
- Align the Dragon. Use the Dragon that matches your chosen element when possible so the march can benefit from the same-element bonuses. The Water Dragon Egg is listed as a tutorial reward and the Earth Dragon Egg as a Chapter 7 reward in the 2021 guide; verify that those routes still apply.
- Test the march in low-risk content. Run ordinary PvE encounters and observe whether the front line survives, whether damage arrives quickly enough, and whether healing or control activates when needed. Change one variable at a time so you can identify what helped.
- Upgrade the complete march. Keep levels, skills, equipment, and Dragon development moving together instead of pouring every material into one Immortal while the other three remain far behind.
Upgrade priorities for a new account
Early resources are limited, so concentration matters more than collecting a large bench. The beginner progression model in a 2024 community guide recommends starting with one main composition and changing it as better characters become available. It also cautions beginners against risky meta experimentation before they understand their account and activities.
Develop one march before a second
A single complete march unlocks more content and makes resource farming easier than several partially built teams. Keep replacement Immortals in reserve, but do not split scarce experience, skill materials, equipment, or awakening resources among every new recruit. Move to a second march when the first can clear its regular content reliably and the second has a coherent role structure.
Level the Dragon with the Immortals
The official guide says Dragon upgrades unlock skills and increase unit attribute bonuses. Treat the Dragon as part of the march rather than a cosmetic addition. A neglected Dragon can leave an otherwise well-leveled team without abilities and attributes that the guide considers part of normal development.
Use equipment and Tower of Knowledge deliberately
Equipment and Tower of Knowledge skills are part of the synergy described by the 2024 team-building guide. Match them to the job you assigned: durability and mitigation for the unit holding the front, offensive effects for the principal damage dealer, and recovery or control support where those effects are missing. Avoid distributing your strongest item randomly just because it has a higher displayed number; the right recipient can matter more than a small isolated stat increase.

Replace by function, not by rarity alone
When a new Immortal becomes available, compare its skills and troop type with the character it would replace. Ask whether the change improves survival, damage, control, or healing without creating a new gap. A replacement that is individually impressive but breaks elemental alignment or removes your only recovery effect may weaken the march in actual content.

A single composition does not perform identically in every activity. The March 2024 community guide recommends making early PvE progress through Gnomes, Gnome Bosses, Well of Time, Mysterium, and Spider, and presents different team versions for different tasks. Use your main march as the foundation, then make controlled adjustments when the activity exposes a specific weakness.

For ordinary enemies, prioritize a stable clear speed and low recovery downtime. If the front line survives comfortably, add damage or shorten the fight. If units return heavily wounded, improve mitigation or healing before chasing a small offensive gain.
Gnome Bosses
Boss encounters usually punish teams that lack sustained damage or cannot survive repeated skill cycles. Check whether your damage dealer can keep attacking while the front line absorbs pressure. Control and defensive support may be worth more than a second burst attacker when the boss outlasts your first rotation.
Well of Time and Mysterium
These modes can demand adaptation as enemy compositions and objectives change. Keep a reserve replacement for the role that most often fails. For example, a control-oriented Immortal may be more useful than a duplicate damage dealer when an enemy’s decisive cast determines the fight.
Spider
When a Spider encounter defeats the back row, first verify placement and troop-type legality, then examine whether your front line is collapsing too quickly or whether the enemy is bypassing your protection. A healer, mitigation effect, or control swap can solve the problem without abandoning your entire element plan.
Common early-game mistakes and fixes
Copying an old roster exactly
The Water and Earth examples come from 2020 and 2021 GTarcade guides, while the progression advice is from a 2024 community guide. They do not prove that every named Immortal is currently obtainable, affordable, or optimal on your server. Use the examples to understand structure and roles, then confirm current in-game access.
Chasing an element without enough characters
An elemental bonus is valuable only when you can field and upgrade a functional march. If you own one excellent Earth Immortal but several usable Water characters, forcing Earth may leave the other three slots weak. Choose the element whose complete four-Immortal team you can maintain.
Putting Bowmen in front
This violates the hard placement rule stated in the official guide. Move Bowmen to the back row and use legal front-row troop types to absorb pressure.
Building four attackers
Four damage-focused Immortals can look powerful in a short test but collapse when enemies survive the opening exchange. Add durability, support, control, or healing so the march can finish longer fights.

Dragon skills and unit attribute bonuses are part of the stated progression system. Include Dragon upgrades in the same plan as Immortal upgrades instead of waiting until the rest of the march is finished.
Changing everything after one loss
One defeat does not identify the problem. Record whether the front line died first, whether damage was too low, whether a key skill missed its target, or whether the enemy’s element created a disadvantage. Then change one Immortal, position, equipment piece, or Tower of Knowledge skill and test again.
A practical decision checklist
- Roster: Can I field four usable Immortals of this element now, or soon?
- Dragon: Can I obtain and upgrade the matching Dragon through a route available on my server?
- Roles: Who tanks, who deals the main damage, who supports or controls, and who heals or provides secondary damage?
- Placement: Are all Bowmen in the back row, with legal front-row troop types ahead?
- Synergy: Do the skills, equipment, Tower of Knowledge effects, and elemental aura reinforce one another?
- Investment: Can I keep one march’s levels, skills, equipment, and Dragon progressing without scattering resources?
- Activity: Which PvE mode exposes my current weakness, and what single adjustment addresses it?
What the older guides do—and do not—establish
The official and community guides provide a useful starting framework: four Immortals plus a Dragon, same-element bonuses, legal troop placement, role balance, and concentrated early investment. They do not provide a controlled statistical comparison, a verified current win rate, or a definitive modern PvP ranking. No published quantitative study establishes a damage percentage or success rate for the Water or Earth examples discussed here.
Availability and balance can change by patch and server. Before committing premium resources, check the current recruitment screen, event schedule, chapter rewards, and each Immortal’s live skill description. If the current game differs from the older guide, preserve the principles—coherent element, complete roles, legal positioning, and concentrated upgrades—and rebuild the names around what you can actually develop.

For a limited-spend beginner, start by checking whether the Water route and tutorial Dragon described in the 2021 official guide are still available. Build a four-Immortal Water march with two legal front-row characters and two back-row characters, assigning damage, durability, and support or healing deliberately. Upgrade that march and its Dragon together while using Gnomes, Gnome Bosses, Well of Time, Mysterium, and Spider to identify weaknesses.
Choose Earth instead when your account has practical access to its Immortals and you are prepared for the investment described by the older guide. Whether you choose Water or Earth, the strongest early decision is not copying a dated list; it is committing to one complete march whose characters, Dragon, skills, and equipment you can keep improving.
