A low-cost PC can keep a prerecorded bhajan playlist live on YouTube, but no particular budget model is proven here to run continuously without interruption. Choose the encoder and output quality first, verify sustained upload capacity, and test the complete setup before relying on it. A local PC also depends on power, internet and hardware recovery at home; for a playlist that does not need a live camera or mixer, cloud playout is another option.
Decide what the PC needs to stream
The right setup depends on the content path. A prerecorded playlist or loop mainly needs to play files and send the encoded stream. A live camera, microphone or mixer adds capture devices and production work, which can change the computer and software requirements. YouTube describes encoder streaming as suitable for external audio/video equipment and advanced production; that does not mean every bhajan loop needs production hardware.

- Playlist or loop: choose the video files, target resolution and frame rate, then select an encoder that can output them reliably.
- Live production: account for camera or audio inputs, any mixing or overlays, and the added processing load before choosing a PC.
For a mostly static prerecorded devotional stream, 720p30 is a reasonable starting point to trial—not a guarantee of a particular picture quality or a hardware recommendation. Select the final quality only after testing it with representative audio and movement.

There is no documented universal hardware threshold or verified low-cost India build that guarantees 24/7 operation. Compare a compact mini PC with a used desktop only after you know the target resolution, frame rate, codec and software encoder. Check the manufacturer-supported operating system, cooling, storage health, network interface, warranty and whether an available encoder supports the output you want.

Do not treat a component’s power-supply rating as the likely draw of a complete streaming setup. Raspberry Pi documentation, for example, lists a 27 W recommended supply for Raspberry Pi 5 and 800 mA as typical bare-board active current; attached peripherals change consumption. Those figures apply to that model and condition, not to a mini PC or a full streaming system. See Raspberry Pi hardware documentation.
Set YouTube’s encoder output and upload connection
YouTube’s current encoder guidance, accessed 2026-10-03, lists these H.264 bitrate figures. They are encoder bitrates, not the upload speed an internet plan guarantees will remain available.

YouTube also specifies constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds), RTMP or RTMPS, and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube recommends RTMPS for an encrypted connection. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions for settings beyond these examples.

- Use Ethernet when practical, then test sustained upload at the intended bitrate.
- Leave capacity for bitrate variation and other household traffic. YouTube does not publish a fixed headroom multiplier in the cited guidance.
- If you stream over Wi-Fi, include the actual wireless route in testing; a speed result taken elsewhere on the network does not establish that the PC’s connection is stable.
For India-specific context, the National Informatics Centre’s webcast service guidance specifies 2–4 Mbps dedicated bandwidth per stream and outbound RTMP port 1935 access. Those are requirements for that NIC service, not YouTube’s general bitrate recommendations. See NIC webcast services.

Connect the encoder to YouTube Live
- Confirm channel eligibility and activation. Check YouTube Studio before planning a launch; first-time live activation may take time.
- Create or select the live stream. In YouTube Studio, set up the stream or choose an existing one, then open its Live Control Room.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. Enter YouTube’s server URL and key in the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it.
- Configure the encoder. Set the chosen resolution and frame rate, H.264 bitrate, CBR, two-second keyframes, RTMPS if supported, and AAC or MP3 audio.
- Start a private or otherwise appropriate test and check stream health. Confirm picture, sound and incoming bitrate in Live Control Room before a public launch.
- Schedule or start the broadcast. Keep the Live Control Room available for monitoring and use the encoder’s reconnect behavior as part of the test.
YouTube recommends tests with audio and movement similar to the planned stream. During an extended trial, also monitor dropped frames, temperatures, CPU or hardware-encoder load, and reconnection behavior. An extended trial is practical operational advice, not a YouTube-specified test duration or a guarantee against future faults. Plan for power cuts and other failures
A local encoder relies on local electricity, the router or modem, the internet connection and the PC. If you need continuity through power cuts, back up the router or modem as well as the encoder. Size a UPS from the measured load of the actual equipment and the runtime you need; the sources available here do not establish a suitable UPS size, outage runtime or electricity cost for an Indian household.

- Stream stops after a power cut: check power to the PC and network equipment, then confirm the encoder reconnects and YouTube receives the stream again.
- Dropped frames or unstable stream health: test the actual upload path, reduce the bitrate or output quality if needed, and check whether another device is using the connection.
- PC runs hot or encoder load stays high: check ventilation and cooling, then trial a lower output or a supported hardware encoder. Do not assume a low-cost PC can sustain a setting just because it can start a stream.
- Stream key or connection error: verify the current YouTube server URL and stream key in the encoder, and confirm any required outbound network access.
- Audio or picture differs from the playlist: test the same files, audio path and movement patterns planned for the broadcast before going public.
Account for archives and content rights
YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a longer-running broadcast, plan how you will handle archives and verify current YouTube rules rather than relying on one endless stream as an archive strategy. A long-running bhajan stream also needs rights to the audio and video being broadcast; being devotional or prerecorded does not by itself establish permission. Review YouTube’s live-stream guidance and the copyright safety checklist before using material whose rights are unclear.
