The B850 AI TOP is the motherboard; the AI TOP 100 B850 is a preconfigured system. For a DIY workstation, first choose a GPU path, then verify the CPU, memory, storage, power, cooling and software against the exact motherboard revision and the components you plan to install.
First, distinguish the motherboard from the complete computer
GIGABYTE’s AI TOP 100 B850 product page describes a complete desktop and example configurations. The B850 AI TOP manual describes the motherboard. Buying the board does not provide the system’s other parts, and the complete system’s configuration is a reference—not a minimum specification for every local AI workflow.

Check the board’s printed revision before selecting parts. CPU support, memory compatibility, slot layout and BIOS instructions are tied to the board and its support documentation; do not assume a listing or manual for a different revision applies.
Choose the GPU path for your models and software
GIGABYTE presents two configurations for different priorities. Neither is a universal winner: determine whether your framework supports the intended GPU setup and whether your model, quantization and multi-GPU software can use the available memory effectively.
#1 Best Overall
- AMD Socket AM5: Supports AMD Ryzen 9000 / Ryzen 8000 / Ryzen 7000 Series Processors
- DDR5 Compatible: 4*DIMMs, Up to 8600MT/s+
- Power Design: 16+2+2, 110A Smart Power Stage
- Thermals: VRM and M.2 Thermal Guard

| Option | GIGABYTE’s stated positioning | What to verify for a DIY build |
|---|---|---|
| One GeForce RTX 5090 | Broad AI framework support and content-creation work. | Framework and driver support for your target workload; GPU memory needed by the model and quantization; card dimensions, cooling and power connections. |
| Two Radeon AI PRO R9700 cards | Larger models and memory-intensive workloads. | Framework and driver support for both cards; whether your application can use multiple GPUs; usable memory for the specific model; slot spacing, card dimensions, cooling and PSU connections. |
Do not assume two cards automatically behave like one larger pool of memory. That depends on the model, framework and software path; confirm it for the workload you intend to run before buying the second card.
Use the complete system as a reference, not a shopping list
GIGABYTE lists the following configuration for the AI TOP 100 B850. Regional specifications may vary, and these are not requirements for every workstation built around the motherboard.

Check the motherboard’s CPU, memory and expansion limits
CPU and DDR5 memory
The manual lists AM5 support for Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 series processors, four DDR5 DIMM sockets and a maximum memory capacity of 256GB. That capacity is not a promise that every CPU, DIMM kit or four-module population will run at the same speed: the manual says memory speed and supported configuration depend on the CPU and memory setup. Check the current CPU support list and memory QVL for the exact revision before ordering a DDR5 memory kit.

M.2 storage and PCIe slots
The manual’s block diagram shows two CPU-attached M.2 connections and one chipset-connected M.2 connection. It also shows that PCIe lane modes depend on the CPU. Read the full manual for slot sharing, drive support and the lane allocation for your exact CPU and card layout. Do not treat the number of connectors as proof that every combination of drives and GPUs runs at unrestricted maximum bandwidth. Check clearance and compatibility for each M.2 NVMe SSD and expansion card.

- AMD Socket AM5: Supports AMD Ryzen 9000 / Ryzen 8000 / Ryzen 7000 Series Processors
- DDR5 Compatible: 4*DIMMs
- Power Design: 14+2+2
- Thermals: VRM and M.2 Thermal Guard
- Connectivity: PCIe 5.0, 3x M.2 Slots, USB-C, Sensor Panel Link
Network connectivity
The manual lists dual 10GbE and Wi-Fi 7. These are motherboard connectivity features, not a guarantee of a particular internet connection or network performance; your router, access point, cabling and service also matter.
Build in compatibility-check order
- Define the workload. Name the models, quantization, framework and tools you plan to use. Decide whether the workload needs one GPU or has verified multi-GPU support.
- Confirm the motherboard revision and CPU. Match the printed revision to GIGABYTE’s support page and confirm that the processor is supported.
- Validate memory and storage. Check the memory QVL for the exact kit and configuration. Consult the manual’s slot and sharing details before planning multiple M.2 drives or expansion cards.
- Check the physical build. Compare GPU length and thickness, PCIe slot spacing, case clearance, cooler fit and airflow against the actual case and components.
- Size power for the chosen parts. Verify PSU capacity and the required connectors against the exact GPUs, CPU and other components; do not assume the complete system’s listed PSU is automatically the right choice for a different build.
- Assemble from the component instructions. Follow the motherboard, case, cooler, GPU, storage and PSU manuals for installation and cabling.
- Install and update the software stack. Install a supported operating system, then current chipset and GPU drivers, followed by the chosen framework and model tools using their official instructions.
Check BIOS updates without treating a listing as permanent
Use the support page for the exact board revision to check CPU support, downloads and BIOS release notes. The GIGABYTE U.S.A. support page reviewed for this guide listed BIOS F13c dated July 21, 2026; BIOS listings can change, so check the current page rather than treating that entry as permanently current. GIGABYTE warns that flashing BIOS carries risk. Update only when needed for your configuration, and follow the current official instructions carefully.

Know what GIGABYTE’s AI software and performance claims establish
GIGABYTE describes AI TOP Utility on the product page as supporting model setup, training workflows, dataset creation, preset strategies, progress monitoring and memory offloading. The page does not provide one complete installation recipe covering every operating-system, GPU and framework combination. Check the utility’s current requirements and documentation alongside those for the specific tools you intend to run.
GIGABYTE attributes the following figures to internal testing and cautions that actual performance may vary. The product page does not state a publication year for these figures; they are vendor results, not independently reproduced benchmarks.

Use these as configuration-specific vendor claims, not as a guarantee that a different model, quantization, software stack or DIY build will achieve the same result.
Understand what “local” means for privacy and cost
Running a model locally can keep sensitive data under your control, but it does not by itself prove that every part of a workflow stays on the workstation. GIGABYTE notes that network access, APIs or third-party services may transmit data externally, and software requirements vary. Check the data handling and network behavior of each framework, model tool and service you enable; do not assume every local workflow avoids external processing or recurring fees.
