Build a game-deals platform around two separate problems: matching each store’s product to one canonical game record, and showing a current, region-specific offer with permission to use its data. IsThereAnyDeal’s API documents search, price and deal retrieval, historical lows, and price history—but its terms also restrict apps that compete with it. Resolve that permission question before making the API a foundation of your product.
What data does a game price comparison site need?
Keep the game catalog separate from store offers. A game is the product a visitor wants to find; an offer is one retailer’s price and terms for a particular edition, platform, and region at a particular time. Treating those as one record makes it harder to reconcile duplicate listings, distinguish editions, or explain why two prices differ.

Use a canonical game record
Give each game an internal, stable identifier. Store source-specific identifiers—such as a Steam app ID—alongside it as mappings, not as interchangeable identities. IsThereAnyDeal’s API documentation describes lookup by title or Steam app ID and search by title, illustrating why a comparison product needs a way to connect source identifiers to its own game record.
Keep each store offer distinct
IsThereAnyDeal’s published shop intake guidance points to a practical offer schema. Store the retailer and product URL, a stable store-side ID or SKU, regular and current prices, currency, platform, activation or DRM details, and regional restrictions or availability. Sale name and expiry time are useful optional fields when the retailer supplies them.

| Record | Fields to retain | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Canonical game | Internal game ID; display title; source-specific IDs mapped to the internal ID | Lets searches and offers from different sources resolve to the same game without assuming their IDs are equivalent. |
| Store offer | Retailer; product URL; stable store ID or SKU; regular and current price; currency; region or availability; platform; activation or DRM details | Describes what a buyer can actually purchase and makes materially different editions or terms visible. |
| Promotion details | Sale name and expiry, if supplied | Supports sale labels and expiry handling without implying a promotion lasts indefinitely. |
| Price observation | Fetch time; offer values observed; region and currency queried | Distinguishes a recorded price from a current price and provides context for history. |
The offer fields above reflect IsThereAnyDeal’s retailer intake guidance. Recording fetch time is an implementation recommendation: prices change, so a displayed price should be tied to when it was observed, not presented as timeless. Keep the queried country and currency with the observation as well.
How should you compare prices across countries and stores?
Make country and currency explicit in the comparison request and in the result shown to visitors. IsThereAnyDeal’s API documentation uses a country parameter based on two-letter ISO country codes, and its examples include currency information with prices. An offer that is available in one country may not be available in another, and a numeric price without its currency is ambiguous.
Do not silently compare amounts in different currencies as if they were the same price. Either compare within a selected country and currency, or make any currency conversion explicit, including the conversion basis and time. The cited API documentation supports country-specific price queries; it does not establish a universal conversion rule for your platform.

Show availability and purchase terms with the price
Keep region restrictions, platform, and activation or DRM information close to the offer. Two listings for the same canonical game may not be equivalent if one is unavailable to the visitor, applies to another platform, or has different activation terms. Those distinctions are part of the offer, not incidental catalog metadata.
How do you build trustworthy price history?
Store price observations over time instead of overwriting the last value. IsThereAnyDeal’s API documentation describes timestamped history records and both historical-low and per-store-low concepts. Use the distinction in your interface: a low at one retailer is not the same claim as a low across all stores your service covers.
Qualify any “all-time low” label with the scope behind it—for example, the stores included, selected country, and history coverage. A comparison platform cannot support a universal market-wide claim merely by tracking a subset of retailers. Keep the observation timestamps and the source of each offer so the displayed history can be interpreted against its actual coverage.

If the source provides a sale expiry, retain it and use it to manage expiry labels. If it does not, do not invent an end date. A last-seen sale and a confirmed active promotion are different states; your interface and update logic should not conflate them.

The practical choice is not simply aggregator versus retailer feeds. Compare options by data and link permissions, store and country coverage, freshness and history, identifier quality, access requirements, and whether outbound links may be monetized. The official materials below describe capabilities and constraints for specific sources; they do not establish performance or coverage rankings across the market.
| Approach | Potential advantage | Key constraint |
|---|---|---|
| Aggregator API | Can reduce the number of integrations and may already expose search, offers, and price-history functions. | Access rules and restrictions on competing products must be resolved; available coverage and reuse rights must be verified for the intended product. |
| Retailer-provided feeds | May provide store IDs, regional availability, and offer details directly from participating retailers. | Requires retailer-by-retailer sourcing agreements or permission, plus normalization across different feed formats. |
| Steam Web API | Provides documented Steam Web API methods for its stated use cases. | Valve’s documented API page does not describe a general storefront-price endpoint, so it should not be treated as a complete game-price feed. |
These trade-offs follow from the cited documentation, not from a claim that one approach is universally superior. A hybrid design may be possible, but only if each source permits the data use, display, storage, and outbound linking your product needs.

Can you use IsThereAnyDeal’s API for a competing price comparison site?
Do not assume that general commercial-use language settles this question. IsThereAnyDeal’s API terms say commercial use may be allowed if the resulting app is public, but separately state: “You MUST NOT make an app that could be considered a competition to IsThereAnyDeal or IsThereAnyDeal projects.” A game-price comparison platform could fall within that restriction. Get written clarification from IsThereAnyDeal before depending on its API for this product.
The API documentation identifies version 2.11.0, says most endpoints require an API key or OAuth, and describes app registration for credentials. It also notes that some endpoints may need explicit approval. Treat credentials and any endpoint-specific approval as prerequisites, not as a substitute for resolving the competition restriction.
What does Steam’s Web API provide for price data?
Valve’s official Steam developer documentation says Web API use requires an API key and acceptance of Steam API Terms of Use. The methods listed on that documentation page cover news, global user statistics, user information, and Team Fortress 2 item methods; they do not amount to a general storefront-price API. Do not describe undocumented endpoints as official or assume the documented public Web API supplies a full catalog and price feed.

What permission do retailer feeds and product links require?
IsThereAnyDeal’s information for shop representatives explains how retailers can provide data to that service, including identifiers, regional restrictions, platform and DRM details, and optional sale expiry. That retailer-facing guidance is not a license for another platform to scrape, store, redistribute, or link to each retailer’s data. Check each intended retailer’s current terms and obtain any feed or reuse permission required.
Keep four permissions distinct in your planning: permission to retrieve data, permission to retain price history, permission to display or transform the data, and permission to use product links commercially. A retailer feed or API credential by itself does not establish all four.
How should you plan monetization without distorting comparisons?
A labeled outbound store link beside an offer is a possible revenue route only when the relevant data, link, and affiliate terms allow it. IsThereAnyDeal says retailer inclusion on its service is free, welcomes shops with affiliate programs, and says affiliate participation does not confer preferential listing. Those statements describe its own service and do not establish affiliate availability or terms for your platform.

Quick Recap
What is a sensible implementation sequence?
- Set the source boundary. List intended retailers and data sources, then document what each permits for retrieval, storage, display, transformation, and linking. Seek written clarification from IsThereAnyDeal about the competition clause before building around its API.
- Define identity and offer records. Create an internal game ID, map source identifiers to it, and keep retailer-specific offers separate. Include stable store IDs, price and currency, region, platform, activation or DRM details, and any supplied promotion dates.
- Choose the comparison context. Require a country selection or another clearly defined regional default. Preserve the country and currency with every offer observation and make availability visible.
- Ingest and timestamp observations. Record when each offer was fetched and retain the source identifier and product URL. Store a new observation rather than silently erasing prior values if you intend to show history.
- Normalize before ranking. Check that an offer maps to the right game and distinguish platforms, editions, regions, and activation terms before placing it alongside other offers.
- Label claims by coverage. Explain which stores, country, and time range underpin historical lows. Treat unknown expiry and unconfirmed availability as unknown rather than filling them in.
- Audit links and commercial presentation. Confirm outbound-link rights and any affiliate terms independently for each retailer, then disclose commercial links without allowing them to determine an undisclosed ranking.
What should a trustworthy offer page tell a visitor?
- The game edition, platform, and activation or DRM terms represented by the listing.
- The retailer, destination product link, current price, and currency.
- The selected country or region and any availability restriction.
- When the price was last observed, and a sale end time only when the source supplies one.
- Which stores and regions are included in any comparison or historical-low claim.
- Whether an outbound link is commercial or affiliate-linked, when applicable.
