Score each on a shared 0–100 scale, disclose the evidence and its limitations, and show whether changing the weights changes the result. The score is a transparent comparison tool—not proof that one game is objectively best.
Set the rules before comparing games
Decide what qualifies before collecting scores. Record the release-year cutoff, eligible platforms, the date you will collect information, and how you will handle missing or incomparable data. This prevents eligibility rules from shifting to favor a particular title.

- Release window: Specify the year or other period, and whether the cutoff is based on the original release, a regional release, or a particular edition. Apply the same rule to every game.
- Platforms: List which platforms count. If a game has different versions, do not combine their evidence without saying how.
- Collection date: Record when each review, player-rating, and sales figure was gathered. These measures can change over time.
- Missing data: Mark unavailable figures as missing and explain their effect on the calculation. Do not silently replace them with estimates or a neutral score.
Choose dimensions and weights
Use critics, players, and sales/reach as separate dimensions. A practical starting point is 40% critics, 35% players, and 25% sales/reach. These are editorial choices, not an established industry formula; publish them before naming a winner.
| Dimension | What it represents | Starting weight |
|---|---|---|
| Critics | Professional review assessments and breadth of coverage | 40% |
| Players | User ratings, interpreted alongside rating volume and timing | 35% |
| Sales/reach | Commercial adoption in a defined market and period | 25% |
Score each dimension from 0 to 100, then calculate:

Overall score = (critics × 0.40) + (players × 0.35) + (sales/reach × 0.25)
Keep the underlying figures and scoring method visible. If you convert raw data—such as review aggregates or sales figures—to a 0–100 score, explain the conversion and apply it consistently. A total without its inputs and rules is difficult to reproduce.

Build the three evidence streams carefully
Critic reviews
Name the review aggregator or review set, the number of reviews, the platforms represented, and the collection date. An aggregate summarizes a particular set of reviews; it is not the same as a single outlet’s assessment or a universal verdict. Where possible, note whether the set combines platform versions, since review coverage may differ between them.

Player ratings
For each player score, identify the platform, rating scale, number of ratings, and collection date. Display the count beside the average: a high average from a small number of ratings should not look as certain as the same average supported by a much larger sample. Ratings may also represent different audiences, platforms, versions, or points in a game’s release lifecycle.

Sales and reach
State the source, geography, time window, and formats covered by any sales figure. Commercial adoption can indicate market reach, but it does not directly measure design quality or player satisfaction. The Japan Game Awards says that numerical data from inside and outside Japan may be referenced depending on award type, illustrating why a sales comparison needs a clearly stated market and scope (Japan Game Awards 2024 selection criteria).
Add a craft checklist without disguising it as a score
Use qualitative prompts to explain what the numbers may leave out. The Japan Game Awards 2024 criteria name six areas: design, programming, graphics, sound, scenario, and originality (CESA’s criteria). Consider each area where it is relevant to the game, but do not assume every title must excel equally in all six.

- Classic Dice Fun — Roll the dice and see what combinations you can get to score big
- Don't Farkle — If you can’t set aside any dice, that’s a Farkle! You lose your turn and play moves on without you
- Strategy and Luck — Strategize to keep your dice or risk throwing again, and see where the dice land
- Risk It All — Will you save what you have or go all in on the chance to earn more points?
- Comes Ready To Play — A cup for rolling dice, a scorepad, and 6 dice are included
- Design: How do the rules, systems, and player choices work together?
- Programming: How does the game perform and respond in the versions being considered?
- Graphics and sound: How do visual and audio choices serve the experience?
- Scenario: What role do narrative, setting, or storytelling play?
- Originality: What feels distinctive, and how does that matter to the game’s overall effect?
These prompts support explanation rather than a hidden fourth score. A game can be excellent in one craft area and less compelling in another; the checklist helps readers see those trade-offs.
Calculate, disclose, and test the ranking
- Publish eligibility and weights. State the release cutoff, platforms, evidence collection date, and dimension weights before presenting results.
- Collect comparable inputs. Record the source, value, scale, volume where applicable, geographic scope, time period, and platform coverage for each dimension.
- Convert inputs consistently. Explain how each source’s raw data becomes a 0–100 score. Preserve the original values so readers can inspect the conversion.
- Calculate the weighted total. Apply the published formula to every eligible game, using the same method and rounding rule.
- Run a sensitivity check. Recalculate with at least one reasonable alternative weighting, or explain why the chosen weights reflect the publication’s priorities. Say whether the top-ranked game changes.
- Show the reasons behind the result. Present dimension scores and relevant craft notes alongside the total so a reader can see whether a title ranks highly through critical consensus, player enthusiasm, commercial reach, or a combination.
If a dimension is unavailable for a title, do not treat its absence as evidence of average performance. State whether the title is excluded, whether the total is calculated from available dimensions with adjusted weights, or whether the comparison is presented without a complete total. Whichever policy you choose, apply it consistently and label the result.

- PERFORATED YAHTZEE SCORE PADS: The common complaint we came to realize from customers like you is that you hated getting yahtzee score sheets and realizing that they are glued together in a book format and not perforated. That ends today! Our products were designed with one person in mind and that was you! We are currently, one of very few perforated yahtzee score pads product on the market, but without a doubt offering the best bang for your buck.
- A YAHTZEE GAMES ACCESSORY: At 6x9”, this size is perfect for travel and still, our Yahtzee score sheets offer a larger print with improved visibility. This is extremely beneficial for youngsters and older folks alike who may have shaky handwriting or who may be visually impaired, but still want to be a part of the game. “Guess what?! You won’t need your glasses anymore, Grandma!” These Yahtzee score pads are designed as a tablet, so the Yahtzee score sheets are removed from the top.
- Us vs The Rest of Them: 98% of the Yahtzee score pads being offered on the marketplace are in a ‘paperback book format’. This means that all the pages are bound together at the side seams. This means that you need to either rip off the covers or use scissors to remove the score sheets. We have removed the guess work in that. With us, you get perforated yahtzee score sheets, all usable that can be easily removed in seconds. No fluff!
- DOUBLE-SIDE PRINT YAHTZEE SCORE SHEETS: Our Yahtzee score pads have a total of 100 double side print sheets. This gives you a total of 200 yahtzee score cards. With 6 games per page, you get to record up to 1,200 score throws. Printed on 80 GSM paper, we are offering very competitive quality at a price very comparative to the rest of the market.
- NO GIMMICKS, NO FLUFF: We are offering a “what you see is what you get” offer. We have listened to your needs and we are giving it to you. Consider this Yahtzee score pad as a compatible item to your Yahtzee games.
Why the scorecard is a choice, not a universal awards formula
Established awards use different methods rather than one shared recipe. The Japan Game Awards 2024 considers design, programming, graphics, sound, scenario, and originality; its selection committee uses general voting results and sales volume as references when selecting the Grand Award and Award for Excellence. Its criteria state: “Sales volumes will be used as an evaluation reference at the judging session” (Japan Game Awards selection criteria).
The Game Awards describes a jury of over 100 global media and influencer outlets choosing nominations, with fan voting also permitted (The Game Awards FAQ). The D.I.C.E. Awards uses developer voting; its rules say: “In each awards category, game developers rank up to three of their favorite nominated games in order of preference” (D.I.C.E. Awards Voting Rules & Procedures). These examples show that award processes make different institutional choices; they do not establish a universally correct weighting for a scorecard.
Read the result as evidence, not as the whole experience
Aggregated critic and user scores cannot capture every part of how people experience a game and may mislead in some cases, as discussed in research on critic and player score aggregates (study of critic and user scores). Treat scores as one structured comparison, then use the source details and craft checklist to explain what they do—and do not—show.
A scorecard is strongest when someone else can reproduce it: the eligibility rules are fixed, sources and collection dates are named, rating volume and sales scope are visible, missing values are handled openly, and the ranking survives—or transparently fails—a change in weights.
