To build a continuous lofi radio stream on YouTube, prepare a playlist and loopable visual, send them through an encoder or a hosted streaming service, then check the signal in YouTube Live Control Room before going public. Clear the rights for every track and visual first: YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content, and a licensed track can still trigger an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel.
1. Make sure your channel and music are ready
Check live-stream eligibility
YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, the person streaming must be at least 16, and the channel must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Review YouTube’s live-streaming requirements before building the broadcast.
Clear rights for every track and visual
Keep a rights ledger for each piece of music and each visual asset. Record the creator or rights holder, the license or written permission, the territories covered, whether continuous live transmission and archived replays are allowed, whether monetization is allowed, and any attribution requirement. These are questions to check against the specific license, not universal license terms.
YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility for the necessary rights on the creator, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers and other participants. Read the Livestream terms and conditions and retain written evidence of permission. If a track is licensed, ask the rights holder whether they can allowlist your channel in Content ID before you go live. YouTube may interrupt or terminate a live stream when it detects third-party content, and a license alone does not guarantee the broadcast will avoid an interruption. 2. Assemble the playlist and visual
Arrange and listen through the music
Put the tracks in the order you want them to play, then listen through the transitions and the final track-to-first-track wraparound. Check for silence, abrupt changes in loudness, clipped audio and a noticeable seam. Do not promise gapless playback unless you have tested the actual playback method and confirmed it.
Choose a still image or animation loop
Pair the playlist with a still visual or a short animation designed to loop. Check that the visual’s rights cover the intended livestream and any replay, just as you would for music. If the animation has a visible start or end point, preview multiple cycles to make sure the seam is acceptable.

3. Choose how to keep the broadcast running
Run an encoder yourself
A computer or server running playback and streaming software gives you direct control over the playlist and visual. The machine, playback process and internet connection must remain available for the planned broadcast. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key; its supported encoder guidance includes OBS. The exact audio, video and bitrate settings depend on your encoder and the stream format you choose. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions and the encoder’s YouTube preset rather than guessing at values.
Use a hosted continuous-stream service
A hosted service can reduce the need to leave a personal computer running, but check its current restart behavior, playlist controls, service limits, credential handling and cost before relying on it. Regardless of delivery method, you remain responsible for music and visual rights.

4. Connect the stream to YouTube and test it
- Create or schedule the broadcast: In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and obtain its stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private; anyone who has it may be able to send a signal to your broadcast.
- Enter the connection details: In your encoder’s YouTube or RTMP settings, enter the stream URL and key. If you use a hosted service, add the key where that service requests it.
- Start sending the signal: Start the encoder or hosted stream and wait for the incoming signal to appear in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes this standard flow.
- Preview before going public: Check the Live Control Room preview for a stable picture and audio. Run an unlisted test long enough to hear at least one full playlist cycle and inspect the wraparound. Confirm the visual loops as intended and that levels stay consistent.
- Go live and monitor: After the test, start the public broadcast. Watch the live dashboard and check the channel’s watch page from another device. These checks can catch production problems, but they do not guarantee uninterrupted operation or copyright clearance.
When HLS is relevant
Most creators should use the encoder’s YouTube preset. If you configure HLS ingestion directly, YouTube’s guide specifies 1–4-second segments, TS format and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. HLS has higher latency than RTMP and has additional setup requirements; see YouTube’s HLS setup guide.

5. Plan for outages, archives and long broadcasts
Decide how you will recover from a failure
For an unattended broadcast, identify what should happen if the playback process, computer, power or network fails. Consider automatic restart and alerts, and keep stream credentials private. YouTube recommends previewing the signal, checking local archive files, and monitoring audio and video quality; see its encoder guidance.
Do not rely on YouTube for a complete archive of a very long stream
YouTube says it can automatically archive a live stream that is less than 12 hours; a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local archive backup. Read YouTube’s archive guidance. If a full replay matters, record locally and check that the recording is being written correctly; optional external storage can help hold a backup, but it is not required to broadcast.

DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. YouTube explains these limits in its DVR guidance. Dividing a continuous schedule into shorter broadcasts may make archive planning easier, but creates separate live events and does not guarantee seamless playback between them.
