You can broadcast shabad kirtan continuously on YouTube by sending a rights-cleared audio-and-video program from an encoder such as OBS to a YouTube live stream. First confirm your channel is eligible, clear the recording and performance rights, then create the stream, configure the encoder for your available upload bandwidth, and monitor it. A 24/7 plan is not a guarantee of uninterrupted availability: power, internet, YouTube, or a rights alert can interrupt the feed.
1. Check that your channel can livestream
YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. The person livestreaming must be at least 16. Check the channel’s status in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room before planning a launch; allow time to enable access and resolve any restrictions.
YouTube’s live-stream help page also states limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. If you are already using streams or keys, account for those limits when planning the broadcast.
2. Clear the kirtan recording and visuals
Before creating the program, establish that you have permission for each part: the sound recording, the performance, the underlying compositions, and any image or video shown on screen. Devotional or traditional subject matter does not by itself establish that a particular recording or performance is free to use.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. Its Help page, “Copyright issues with live streams”, states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If you have a license, ask the rights owner whether they must add your channel to their Content ID allowlist; YouTube says a licensed stream may still be interrupted if it is not allowlisted. Keep written permission and any allowlisting confirmation where the channel operator can retrieve them.
3. Prepare a continuous program source
Assemble a continuous, rights-cleared audio-and-video feed. You can pair the audio with a static or gently changing visual if you have permission to use that image or footage. YouTube’s cited guidance does not prescribe a particular playlist format, program duration, or visual style, so choose those as production decisions rather than treating them as platform requirements.

Check that the source plays reliably for the intended duration and that audio remains audible and free of unintended gaps. If the program is a playlist, verify the transition from the final item back to the first and confirm every item is covered by your permissions.
4. Create a YouTube broadcast and connect an encoder
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream and confirm the event settings and visibility are what you intend.
- Choose an encoder. OBS is one option; YouTube accepts encoder-based streams. In the encoder’s YouTube connection settings, paste the stream key from Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Send the program feed. Start the encoder and wait for YouTube to detect the incoming stream. Review the preview and stream health before making the broadcast public or starting the event.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes a liveStream, which represents the incoming feed and its settings, from a liveBroadcast, the viewer-facing event. Its Live Streaming API guide documents a 24/7 feed being kept live while a separate interview broadcast is started and completed. That is an API use case, not a guarantee of uptime or a requirement to use the API; most operators can set up a standard encoder stream in Live Control Room.

5. Configure video, audio, and network settings
YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. Its encoder guidance specifies H.264, H.265, and AV1 video options for RTMP/RTMPS, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate encoding, and a keyframe interval of two seconds recommended and no more than four seconds. Use settings supported by both your encoder and the YouTube ingest workflow you select.

These are YouTube recommendations for those H.264 output modes, not a universal minimum connection speed. The encoder settings guidance lists other ranges for other resolutions, frame rates, and codecs. Choose an output that matches the source and the sustained upload capacity available to the encoder; leave headroom rather than selecting a bitrate that consumes the entire upstream connection. A higher resolution is not automatically better if it makes the feed unstable.

Before launch, test with representative audio and motion and check the stream-health indicators in Live Control Room. OBS notes in its help portal that rising dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection or one that cannot sustain the configured bitrate.
6. Keep the feed running and plan for recovery
For a self-hosted setup, place the encoder computer, source media, and network equipment somewhere stable. A wired connection can avoid some wireless variability, but it cannot prevent an internet outage. Assign someone to watch the Live Control Room and encoder indicators and respond to stream interruptions or rights alerts; an unattended feed still needs an incident plan.

- Power: A UPS can keep local equipment powered through some short interruptions, depending on its capacity and the connected load. It cannot ensure internet or YouTube availability.
- Restart readiness: Keep the stream key and restart procedure accessible to the responsible operator, without exposing the key publicly.
- Rights response: Keep permission records and rights-owner contact details available in case YouTube flags the stream.
- Continuity expectations: Neither YouTube’s documented 24/7 example nor the encoder guidance establishes a specific uptime target or guarantees uninterrupted service.
7. Troubleshoot common interruptions

8. Run it yourself or use a cloud service
Self-hosting with an existing or dedicated computer
You do not need a particular mini PC: an existing computer that can run your chosen encoder and sustain the selected settings may be sufficient. If buying a dedicated computer, compare sustained stability, wired Ethernet, ports, operating-system support for the encoder, remote restart, cooling and noise, and serviceability. For a UPS, compare runtime at the actual load, outlet count, battery replacement, and compatibility with local power standards. These are selection criteria, not guarantees of uninterrupted streaming.
