You can broadcast a Bollywood-oldies radio-style feed on YouTube by sending a prepared audio-and-visual programme through a software or hardware encoder to YouTube Live. The hard part is not making the playlist loop: it is securing the rights to every recording and composition for livestreaming in the territories where viewers can watch. Buying a song or being able to play it personally does not by itself clear it for a public broadcast.
First, clear the music you plan to broadcast
Before building the playlist, identify each exact recording and the underlying composition. Rights may differ between recordings of the same song, and they can vary by territory and agreement. Confirm that the permission covers public livestreaming on YouTube, the territories in which the channel will be available, and the duration of the broadcast. If you plan to leave a replay or archive available, confirm that this use is covered too.

YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” YouTube Livestream terms and conditions describe that obligation. The terms do not identify who controls any particular Bollywood catalogue or tell you which licensing route applies to your songs. Get song- and territory-specific confirmation from the relevant rights holders or qualified counsel; do not assume one permission covers every recording, composition, territory, or use.

Check that your channel can livestream
- Verify the YouTube channel and check that it has not had a livestreaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- YouTube’s general livestreaming guidance sets a minimum age of 16. Review the current YouTube live-streaming eligibility guidance before scheduling.
Prepare a continuous programme and a visual feed
Assemble the playlist only from material cleared for the intended broadcast. The stream needs a visual component as well as audio: use a station identity screen, playlist information, or other visuals you have rights to use. Avoid adding album art, photographs, or clips unless you have permission for those elements too.
Choose an encoder workflow that can send the prepared feed to YouTube Live. YouTube documents both software encoders and professional-grade hardware encoders; dedicated hardware is optional for a basic radio-style broadcast. The official guidance does not establish that a particular automation package, encoder model, or setup is best for continuous playback, so verify that your chosen workflow can sustain the programme and that you can monitor it.

Set up and start the YouTube livestream
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a livestream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control the stream.
- Enter the stream URL and key in your encoder, then configure it to send the prepared audio-and-visual feed.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before going live. Confirm that both sound and picture are present and that the correct programme is being sent.
- Start the encoder and monitor the YouTube broadcast for matching-content warnings, interruptions, and audio or video failures. Keep permission and allowlisting records available if a rights issue arises.
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key; the exact encoder controls depend on the software or hardware you choose. YouTube’s cited materials do not establish universal bitrate, resolution, or keyframe settings for every encoder and programme. Follow the encoder’s current instructions and YouTube’s current stream-health guidance rather than treating an unverified setting as a guarantee of uninterrupted broadcasting.

Plan continuity without relying on one endless archive
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If an automatic YouTube archive matters, plan successive sessions shorter than 12 hours and deliberately start the next one; the platform guidance does not promise a seamless handoff. Even with a continuous playlist, monitor the broadcast. A stream can be interrupted by a Content ID match, and a successful start does not establish that every track will remain uninterrupted. Have a practical way to check the Live Control Room and respond to warnings or failures.
Will YouTube block old Bollywood songs?
It may. YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content. A match can lead to a placeholder image, temporary interruption, or termination. A channel may need to be allowlisted by the rights owner even when it has a licence. If you archive the livestream, YouTube says Content ID claims on that archive are made after the live stream ends. A stream that has not yet received a claim is not proof that the music is cleared or that a later claim cannot occur. Refer to YouTube’s guidance on copyrighted content in live streams.
