1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo broadcast a radio station on YouTube with an audio-reactive visualizer, send your station’s audio and a visualizer scene from an encoder such as OBS to YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, create an encoder stream, copy its server URL and stream key into OBS, test the audio and picture, then start the broadcast. You do not need a microphone for music-only playback, but you do need permission to broadcast the recordings you use.
Before you set up the broadcast
Check that your channel is eligible
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to stream. Its current getting-started guidance also says users must be at least 16 to live stream. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before announcing a launch: YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guide.

Confirm music rights
Make sure you have the rights needed for the specific recordings, catalog, territories, and live broadcast you plan to use. A visualizer, artist credit, or valid stream key does not grant music permission. YouTube’s technical setup guidance does not determine whether a particular radio catalog is cleared for your broadcast; consult the relevant rights holders and review YouTube’s copyright guidance.

Identify the audio source that carries the radio program—such as a station output or playback feed—and make it available to OBS. Decide whether the stream will be music-only or include spoken station IDs and announcements. For a music-only broadcast, a microphone is optional; YouTube says expensive equipment is not required to begin streaming. A microphone is useful only if you intend to add live speech or voiceovers.

Create the YouTube Live stream
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create, then Go live.
- In the Live Control Room, create or select an encoder stream. YouTube displays a server URL and stream key for that stream.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose the applicable YouTube service/server option, then enter the server URL and stream key from the Live Control Room. If OBS offers an account-connection workflow, use the stream-key workflow when you need to enter YouTube’s specific server URL and key.
Treat the stream key like a password: it lets an encoder send video to the associated stream. Do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, a channel owner or manager can reset it in YouTube’s live settings. See YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions.
Build an OBS scene with station audio and a visualizer
- In OBS, create a scene for the radio broadcast.
- Add the station program feed as an audio source. Confirm that its meter moves when the program plays and that the source is routed to the stream mix.
- Add a visualizer source and position or size it so it stays visible in the intended video frame. Check it against the full scene, not just a cropped preview.
- Play representative station audio and verify that the visualizer reacts to that exact source. If it responds to the wrong input or stays still, adjust the source it listens to and test again.
- If you are adding a microphone for announcements, add it as a separate audio source and check its level against the station audio before the test stream.
One software option is the OBS plugin Waveform. Its listing describes frequency-spectrum graphs, bar and circular forms, meters, and waveform display. The listing reports version 1.9.1, an update on July 14, 2026, support for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and a minimum OBS version of 27.0.0. Check the current Waveform listing and your installed OBS version before installing; plugin compatibility and update details can change. This is software, not a physical visualizer device.

Choose video and audio settings that your connection can sustain
YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder ingestion. Select settings that match your encoder codec, output resolution, frame rate, and measured upload capacity. The figures below are YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrates; they are not universal targets for AV1 or H.265.
| Output profile | YouTube-recommended H.264 video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
For other codecs, use the matching resolution-and-frame-rate row in YouTube’s live encoder settings rather than copying an H.264 figure. YouTube’s general guidance lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate; and a recommended keyframe interval of two seconds, not over four seconds. For stereo audio, it lists a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 Kbps audio bitrate.

- LED LIGHT: The audio spectrum analyzer consists of 384 RGB LEDs with 1624 segment rhythm light level voice sensor
- MULTIPLE FUNCTIONS: The audio visualizer features 20 dynamic effects, 7 color effects, and can form 140 different display effects
- 2 CONTROL MODE: This music visualizer supports voice control and line control mode. Voice control will be pulsating with the sound; line control mode will be pulsating with the music of the audio input
- USB POWER SUPPLY: The music spectrum with RGB lights is powered by USB 5V and can be applied through a phone charger or computer USB (not support charging)
- PREMIUM QUALITY: The spectrum analyzer home audio is made of high-quality ABS material, and the glossy appearance is easy to clean and maintain
Measure available upload speed and leave 20% of upload bandwidth available beyond the total stream bitrate, as YouTube recommends. The video bitrate is not the entire stream bitrate: include audio and any other encoder overhead when judging whether your connection has enough capacity. A stable wired connection can help reduce avoidable interruptions, but test the actual setup rather than relying on a speed-test result alone.
Test, go live, and end the broadcast cleanly
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the Live Control Room preview.
- Check the preview for the complete visualizer frame, then listen for clean station audio, balanced levels, and any unwanted microphone or desktop sound.
- Use a private or unlisted test stream where appropriate, and watch it from another device. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and movement and checking the preview before going live.
- When the preview and stream health look right, click Go live in the Live Control Room.
- Monitor stream health and the broadcast audio during the show. At the end, click End stream in YouTube Studio and stop sending content from OBS. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that applies to a longer broadcast.
Troubleshoot common problems
- YouTube receives no signal: Confirm OBS is sending to the correct server URL and that the stream key belongs to the selected Live Control Room stream. If the key may have been exposed or reset, copy the current key into OBS.
- The preview appears, but the visualizer is static: Check that the visualizer listens to the station program source, that OBS receives audio on that source, and that the program is actually playing. Test with representative audio.
- The stream stutters or drops frames: Compare the total outgoing bitrate with measured upload capacity and restore YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Reduce the output profile or bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it, then test again.
- The stream is silent or too loud: Check the OBS audio meters and source routing, confirm the program feed is present, and listen from another device. If announcements are enabled, check the microphone independently and balance it against the station feed.
- The plugin is missing or fails to load: Check its current platform and OBS-version requirements, then confirm that the installed plugin version supports your setup. Plugin behavior and compatibility can vary by system.
- The live preview is fine but the archive is missing: Check whether the stream exceeded YouTube’s stated 12-hour automatic-archive threshold. The cited guidance establishes automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, not for longer ones.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a pre-recorded radio program or playlist to loop as a YouTube live stream without keeping OBS or a home computer running, StreamNeo runs the uploaded video from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only.
