- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Live Control Room, enter the broadcast details and schedule it if useful. YouTube says scheduled streams may appear as upcoming in subscribers’ feeds, where viewers can choose “Notify me.”
- Copy the stream URL and key. Use the connection details YouTube provides for the broadcast. The stream key identifies where the encoder sends its feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Keep it private: someone with the key may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Configure the encoder. In OBS or your FFmpeg workflow, set the YouTube-provided stream URL and key. Configure the prerecorded program audio and its visual so they are sent together as a live feed. Copyright, interruptions, and monetization
YouTube says it scans all live streams for matches to third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the channel to stop; if the material remains, the stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. For a licensed channel, YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption. If the stream is archived, Content ID claims may be made after the stream ends.
Monetization is a separate review. YouTube says monetized content should be original and authentic, and that highly repetitive or mass-produced content can be ineligible. Reused content is assessed separately from copyright permission, and the policy applies to the channel as a whole. Having permission to replay material therefore does not guarantee monetization. The station’s country is not established by the language of its programs; confirm the applicable local rules and rights for the material you broadcast.
