Use a YouTube-compatible Android encoder app, route the radio station’s audio into it, and pair that audio with a visual such as station artwork. Before going live, confirm that the channel is eligible and that the station has the rights to stream and archive its music on YouTube. The encoder method is the clearest documented phone-based route for external audio; simply playing a radio app on the phone and pressing YouTube’s camera-oriented “Go Live” button is not an established way to relay that app’s sound.
What you need for a phone-based radio broadcast
- A YouTube channel that can use the streaming method you choose.
- A YouTube Live stream and its stream URL and key.
- An Android encoder app that supports YouTube, such as PRISM Live Studio, Larix Broadcaster, or Streamlabs. YouTube lists these Android-capable options, but the cited guidance does not establish a controlled quality comparison among them. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains the server URL and stream-key setup.
- A way to route the station’s program audio into the encoder. If the output comes from a separate mixer or player, that may require a compatible audio interface connected to the phone.
- A visual for the live picture, such as a station logo or program title card showing the station, show, host, or current segment. This is useful presentation guidance, not a stated YouTube requirement.
Check compatibility for the actual phone, Android version, connector, encoder app, and audio source. The available guidance does not validate a particular phone-and-interface combination.

Check YouTube eligibility before setting up
YouTube Help’s Android mobile-live requirements, checked on October 3, 2026, list at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, live streaming enabled, no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days, and Android 8.0 or later. YouTube says first-time mobile streaming may take 24 hours to become available. Channels below 1,000 subscribers may have mobile-live viewership limited and the archive set to private by default. These platform requirements can change; check YouTube’s current Android mobile-live requirements before relying on them.
These are requirements for YouTube’s own mobile-live flow. An encoder is a separate method with its own URL-and-key setup, but using one does not exempt a channel from YouTube’s general live-stream policies or rights obligations.

Confirm music and broadcast rights first
Do not assume that permission to operate an online radio station also permits rebroadcasting its programming on YouTube. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to hold the necessary rights for live and archived material in the relevant territories, including applicable rights involving artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Local broadcast licensing, registration, consent, or notification obligations may also apply in the stream territory. Confirm the scope of the station’s rights before transmitting.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the live image with a placeholder, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. Even where the station has a license, the rights owner may need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent interruptions. Check with the relevant rights holders about any required allowlisting before a public test. Read YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance and YouTube’s terms.

Set up the Android encoder and YouTube Live stream
- Create or schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Set up the live stream and locate its stream URL and stream key in the encoder settings. The exact labels can vary with YouTube’s interface; follow the current encoder instructions in YouTube Help.
- Install and open a YouTube-listed Android encoder. YouTube’s list includes PRISM Live Studio, Larix Broadcaster, and Streamlabs. Choose based on whether its current Android app can use your intended audio input and visual layout; the cited sources do not rank these apps by quality.
- Enter the stream URL and key in the encoder. Copy the values from YouTube Studio into the corresponding server and key fields in the app. Treat the key as a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Choose the visual. Use a station image or program card suitable for a radio broadcast. Check that the intended image appears in the encoder preview and is not obscured by app controls.
- Choose and test the audio input. If the radio feed is coming from a separate mixer or player, connect a compatible audio interface and select the relevant input in the encoder. YouTube describes connecting external audio hardware to an encoder, and Streamlabs lists external audio channels among its mobile audio settings. Whether a given interface will work depends on the exact setup.
- Start with a private or unlisted check where available. Listen to the returned stream on a second device and verify the picture, audible program, and connection before announcing the broadcast. This is a prudent operational check, not a guarantee against later rights checks or disconnections.
- Go live from the encoder. Confirm that YouTube shows the stream as live and continue monitoring the actual broadcast. Keep the phone powered and the encoder active for as long as this phone-based setup is responsible for sending the stream.
Route station audio reliably
If the sound comes from another device
Connect the mixer or player’s output to a phone-compatible audio interface, then select that interface as the encoder’s audio source. Match the cable and signal level to the source and interface, and test for distortion, silence, or unexpected noise before going live. The exact routing and compatibility depend on the hardware and app, so confirm them on the actual phone rather than assuming a connector alone guarantees support.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf the audio is in another Android app
Do not assume the encoder can capture arbitrary playback from a separate radio-player app. The cited YouTube mobile-live flow is camera-oriented, and the available documentation does not establish direct capture of unrelated app audio. PRISM documents an Android background-broadcast option after enabling “Allow display over other apps”; this may help an operator manage another app while streaming, but check the current setting and test the exact phone before relying on it. See PRISM’s guide.

Common problems and what to check
- You cannot start a mobile broadcast: verify the channel’s eligibility, verification, live-stream enablement, recent restrictions, Android version, and whether YouTube’s possible first-stream wait has elapsed. If using an encoder, confirm that you are following its encoder workflow rather than assuming the YouTube mobile camera flow applies.
- The stream is live but silent: check which input the encoder selected, whether the interface is connected and recognized, and whether the mixer/player output is reaching it. Monitor the returned stream from a second device.
- The encoder shows a picture but no station sound: a visual source does not itself route audio. Select the intended external input or configure the app’s supported audio path; direct capture of another app’s playback is not established.
- The broadcast is interrupted or its picture changes: check YouTube’s copyright notices and contact the rights holder about the rights scope and any Content ID allowlisting needed for the channel.
- The phone stops broadcasting when you switch apps: confirm the encoder’s current background behavior and relevant permissions on that Android device. PRISM’s documented overlay setting may help, but test it before relying on it for a scheduled program.
- The stream key does not work: confirm it was copied into the encoder’s stream-key field without added characters and that it belongs to the intended YouTube Live stream. Regenerate it if it may have been exposed.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube channel built from uploaded recordings rather than a live feed from a mixer, player, or phone microphone, StreamNeo runs the uploaded videos from the cloud: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It does not broadcast a live camera or route a live station audio feed from your phone.
