To keep a Bengali online radio station live on YouTube, send its audio feed and a station-owned or licensed visual to YouTube Live through an encoder. OBS Studio is the graphical, computer-based option; FFmpeg on a VPS can run in the background for an unattended setup. In either case, you need an eligible YouTube channel, the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, a stable audio source, and the rights to broadcast every song and recording.
What you need before going live
- An existing Bengali radio audio stream or other audio source that you are authorized to relay.
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube says live streamers must be at least 16, and first-time live activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- An encoder: OBS Studio on a computer, or FFmpeg on a server such as a VPS.
- A visual asset, such as station artwork or a looping video, that you own or have permission to use.
- Permission or another applicable legal basis for the music, recordings, performances, and other third-party content in the territories where the station will be available.
YouTube Live expects an audio-video feed for these encoder workflows, so pair the radio audio with a visual even if the station’s main content is sound. A microphone or other external audio hardware is optional if presenters will speak live; it is not required merely to relay an existing radio feed.

Create the YouTube Live stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room. Verify the channel and enable live streaming in advance; first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Create or schedule a stream. Set its title, description, and visibility, then open the stream settings to obtain the server URL and stream key. YouTube’s walkthrough is Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Keep the stream key private. It authorizes an encoder to send content to your channel; do not post it, share it publicly, or place it in a public script or screenshot. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Enter the server URL and key in your chosen encoder, start sending the feed, and check Live Control Room for the incoming stream and preview. Confirm the audio is audible and the visual appears as intended before treating the stream as live.
Choose an encoder setup

There is no established controlled reliability or cost comparison between these approaches; hosting costs and service limits depend on the provider. OBS Studio: graphical desktop workflow
- Install and open OBS Studio on the computer that will remain powered on and connected for the broadcast.
- Use Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard to establish basic streaming settings. OBS’s Help Portal points to its x264 streaming guidance for more detailed encoding choices.
- Add the radio audio source and a visual source, such as station artwork or a looping video. Check the audio mixer and preview, and ensure that the visual asset is cleared for use.
- Open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key and server details supplied by YouTube. Start streaming and verify the incoming feed in Live Control Room.
- Keep OBS, the computer, power, and internet connection available. Monitor Live Control Room and have a recovery plan for restarting OBS or replacing a compromised stream key.
FFmpeg on a VPS: background workflow
FFmpeg can combine the station’s audio URL with a static image or looping visual and send the resulting feed to YouTube. The exact command depends on the audio source format, visual, FFmpeg build, and YouTube’s current ingest settings; use the practical guide above for an example tailored to its setup rather than copying an unverified command into production.

- Choose and configure a VPS, install FFmpeg, and confirm that the server can reach the radio audio source and YouTube ingest endpoint.
- Prepare a station-owned or licensed image or looping video. Configure FFmpeg to combine it with the audio source and encode a compatible audio-video stream.
- Use the YouTube server URL and stream key as the output destination. Protect the key as a credential; avoid leaving it in publicly readable files, logs, or scripts.
- Start the process, then check the incoming preview and audio in Live Control Room.
- Configure process supervision or a restart method if the process exits, and monitor the source, server, and stream. A restart can help recover from a process failure but cannot prevent outages at the source, host, network, or YouTube.
YouTube’s API documentation recognizes a channel’s 24/7 live feed and describes a more complex option for creating a separate broadcast for an interview that is part of a continuous feed. That API approach is relevant when the station needs distinct broadcast pages; it is not necessary for a basic encoder setup. Plan for continuity and recordings
A continuous broadcast depends on every link in the chain: the station’s audio source, the encoder, network access, and power or server availability. A desktop stream needs its computer and session to keep running. A VPS can run in the background and be configured to restart its process, but neither arrangement is interruption-proof. Monitor the feed in Live Control Room and decide in advance who will respond to a source outage, encoder failure, or lost stream key.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise automatic archiving for longer uninterrupted streams, so if the station needs a dependable recording of a longer broadcast, make separate recordings or plan scheduled segments rather than relying on an archive appearing automatically. Having a radio feed or a YouTube stream key does not grant permission to rebroadcast its contents. YouTube’s Terms of Service, effective December 15, 2023, state: “For example, the Content you submit must not include third-party intellectual property (such as copyrighted material) unless you have permission from that party or are otherwise legally entitled to do so.” The Terms also place responsibility for submitted content on the person or entity providing it. Check the rights for each composition, sound recording, performance, and other third-party material for the territories where viewers can access the broadcast. Which licences a particular station needs depends on its location, repertoire, territory, and existing agreements; YouTube’s Terms do not resolve those local licensing questions. Live content must also follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms, and account restrictions or strikes can affect streaming eligibility. Review YouTube’s live-streaming rules before launch.
