Book through the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company’s online booking service after checking sailings for your travel date. Choose between routes based on the schedule, crossing time, ports and whether you’re taking a vehicle—not just the route name. If changing plans is important, book through an online account and check the fare’s amendment terms.
Which Isle of Man ferry route should you choose?
The best crossing depends on your dates and the rest of your journey. Compare the live timetable, journey time, departure and arrival ports, passenger or vehicle availability, fare conditions and any disruption notices before you book.

All Liverpool sailings use the Isle of Man Ferry Terminal at 1 Triskelion Way. Belfast service ended in December 2025; Larne is the operator’s Northern Ireland route. Dublin service is seasonal: the operator recorded a cancellation of scheduled sailings from 23 July through 1 October 2026 because Holyhead infrastructure disruption affected berth availability across the Irish Sea network. That was a dated disruption, not a prediction about future sailings, so check current notices.
Is Heysham or Liverpool better?
Heysham offers a daily, year-round sailing and a listed crossing of 3 hours 45 minutes. Liverpool can be quicker: the operator lists 2 hours 45 minutes for some services, but its schedule is seasonal and the listed duration varies by vessel and service. Compare the actual date, port access and onward connections as well as time at sea; neither route is universally better.

How to book the ferry
- Check the route and date. Start at the Routes and Times hub and open the timetable for the route you are considering. Confirm the sailing operates on your travel date.
- Compare the specific sailings. Check departure and arrival times, listed duration, ports and any current service notices. Liverpool’s sailing pattern and duration vary by season and service.
- Select passengers and, if needed, a vehicle. Enter accurate passenger and vehicle details in the booking form. Use the operator’s current vehicle guidance for dimensions or special vehicles rather than relying on assumptions about what can be carried.
- Review the fare conditions before paying. Check whether the selected fare can be amended and whether fees or fare differences may apply.
- Use an account if booking directly and flexibility matters. The operator recommends making online bookings through an account so customers can view and amend them. Some offer fares cannot be amended; bookings made through an agent must be changed through that agent.
- Save your booking details and check sailing status before leaving. The operator may change vessels at short notice and does not guarantee the vessel shown when you book. See its Sailings and service information for updates.
How long is the ferry from Liverpool?
The operator lists Liverpool–Douglas crossings of 2 hours 45 minutes or 4 hours 15 minutes, depending on the vessel and service. The schedule also changes by season: Liverpool has daily sailings from April to October and weekend sailings through winter. Check the duration shown for the exact sailing you plan to take rather than assuming every Liverpool crossing takes the shorter time.
Can you take a car?
Yes, the operator offers vehicle bookings on its routes, subject to sailing availability and the details entered when booking. Select the vehicle option and provide accurate information. For dimensions, unusual vehicles or other special requirements, consult the company’s current vehicle guidance before completing the booking; the route information here does not establish a complete vehicle-measurement policy.

How much does the ferry cost?
Route pages show indicative “from” fares, not guaranteed totals. The final price depends on the travel date, selected sailing, passenger and vehicle details, and availability. As displayed on the operator’s Liverpool and Heysham route pages on 7 October 2026, starting fares were £98.50/€117 for a car and £26/€31.75 for a foot passenger, each way. Those dated starting prices do not guarantee the fare for another date or booking.

How early do you need to arrive?
At Douglas, check-in opens about 90 minutes before sailing. The latest check-in is 45 minutes before departure for vehicle passengers and 25 minutes for foot passengers. Vehicle passengers should use the vehicle booths; foot passengers should go to the Passenger Terminal. Check your ticket and the destination port’s current instructions too, as these cutoffs are for Douglas.

For foot passengers arriving at Douglas, the bus station is about 400 metres from the Sea Terminal, and a taxi rank is outside. The operator also points passengers to rail-and-ferry ticketing and island bus and rail information through its service information.

- Confirm the sailing is running and check for the latest service notice.
- Verify the terminal and arrival port for your sailing, especially for Liverpool departures.
