In Chrome for Android, open More (the three-dot menu) > Settings > Site settings > Third-party cookies, then choose Block third-party cookies. This prevents third-party cookies by default while you browse normally. If a site depends on them, Chrome lets you approve that site permanently or temporarily.
What blocking third-party cookies actually does
A third-party cookie is stored by a domain other than the site shown in your browser’s address bar. Embedded advertising, analytics, sign-in, video, shopping and other services can use these cookies when their content appears on another site. Chrome’s Block third-party cookies setting stops those cookies from being accepted by default during ordinary browsing.

The setting is narrower than “block all tracking.” It targets third-party cookies, not every technique a website or embedded service could use to remember activity, personalize content or select advertisements. A site can also fail when it expects a third-party cookie for a legitimate function, which is why Chrome provides exceptions.

Check the labels before you start
Google changes Chrome’s settings layout from time to time. On some Android versions, the control may appear under a slightly different privacy heading, but look for Third-party cookies within Chrome’s settings. The menu names in this guide are the current Android path described by Google; if your screen differs, use the settings search or open Site settings and look for the same control.

This change applies to Chrome on the Android device where you make it. It is a browser setting, not a change to your Android account, your Wi-Fi router or every browser installed on the phone.
How to block third-party cookies in Chrome for Android
- Open Chrome. Start the Chrome app on your Android phone or tablet.
- Open the main menu. Tap More, shown as three vertical dots, usually in the upper-right corner.
- Enter Chrome settings. Tap Settings.
- Open site controls. Tap Site settings.
- Open the cookie control. Tap Third-party cookies.
- Turn on the default block. Select Block third-party cookies.
Chrome now applies the block to normal browsing until you change the selection. First-party cookies belonging to the site you are visiting are not automatically removed by this switch, and cookies already stored on the device are not automatically erased.
Allow one site without weakening the default
Some sites use a separate domain for authentication, payment, embedded media or another feature. If blocking third-party cookies causes that function to fail, allow only the affected site instead of restoring cookies everywhere.
Add a site exception from settings
- Open Chrome and tap More > Settings.
- Tap Privacy and security.
- Tap Third-party cookies.
- Tap + Add site exception.
- Enter the site or domain that needs the permission and save it.
Google documents a domain-wide format that places [*.] before the domain, such as [*.]google.com. Use the broad form only when the site’s related subdomains need access; otherwise, keep the exception as narrow as the site allows. An exception affects that domain while the global block remains enabled.

Grant a temporary allowance while viewing a page
If a page displays a cookie warning or a feature that cannot load, use the page-information control for that site and choose the option to temporarily allow third-party cookies. Chrome limits this permission to the current site and automatically records it in the exception list. You can later manage that entry from Privacy and security > Third-party cookies.
A temporary allowance is useful for a one-time checkout, sign-in or video. It does not mean that third-party cookies are enabled globally.
What to do when a site stops working
Cookie blocking can expose a dependency that was invisible when every cookie was accepted. Typical symptoms include a sign-in loop, an embedded player that never starts, a checkout that loses its contents, missing account controls or a page that repeatedly asks you to log in.

- Reload the page and check whether the problem was temporary.
- Use the page-information control to grant a temporary third-party-cookie allowance for that site.
- If the function is needed regularly, add a permanent exception under Privacy and security > Third-party cookies > + Add site exception.
- Return to the site and sign in or repeat the failed action.
Do not switch the global setting back to unrestricted cookies unless several unrelated sites require access and you accept the broader change. A site exception preserves blocking everywhere else.

When an exception does not solve the problem
- Confirm that the exception was entered for the domain actually used by the broken feature. A service embedded in a page may use a different domain from the page you can see.
- Close and reopen the affected tab after changing permission, then try the action again.
- Check whether the site has its own consent banner or account setting that still needs an answer. A browser exception permits cookies; it does not automatically accept a site’s consent choices.
- If the site still fails, remove only that site’s stored data and try again, understanding that this can sign you out and erase preferences.
Delete cookies that are already on the phone
Blocking future third-party cookies and deleting existing cookies are separate actions. To remove stored cookies and site data:
- Tap More in Chrome.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Privacy and security.
- Tap Delete browsing data.
- Choose the required time range.
- Select Cookies and site data.
- Tap Delete data.
Deleting data for a selected time range can sign you out of websites and remove saved preferences. It clears information that is already stored; it does not by itself stop a site from storing new cookies on a later visit. Keep Block third-party cookies enabled if you want the ongoing restriction as well.
How Chrome’s privacy controls differ

Incognito is useful, but it is not invisibility
Chrome blocks third-party cookies by default in Incognito. Incognito also limits what Chrome retains on the device after all Incognito windows are closed, which can be useful on a shared phone. It is a separate session from your regular tabs, so it does not replace choosing a cookie policy for ordinary browsing.
Incognito does not hide activity from the websites you visit, Google services or network administrators such as an employer, school or internet provider. Bookmarks and downloaded files remain on the device after the Incognito session ends. Use Incognito when you need a temporary session, not as a promise of anonymity.

Why Do Not Track is not a substitute
Do Not Track sends a request asking a site not to track you. It does not technically prevent cookies or other storage. Google’s Android help states that most websites and web services, including Google’s, do not change their behavior when they receive a Do Not Track request. If your goal is to prevent third-party cookies, use the dedicated Third-party cookies setting instead.
What cookie blocking cannot guarantee
- It does not block every form of tracking. Websites may use other methods to personalize content and advertisements.
- It does not erase historical data. Existing cookies remain until you delete browsing data or remove data through another site control.
- It does not hide your connection. The sites you open and organizations that operate or manage the network can still observe activity in ways unrelated to third-party cookies.
- It does not disable first-party functionality. A site can still use its own cookies, subject to its own settings and your consent choices.
- It does not guarantee that every embedded service will work. If an embedded feature requires a third-party cookie, you may need a narrowly scoped exception.
Choose the right setup for your priority
For the strongest default cookie restriction
Keep Block third-party cookies selected, add exceptions only when a specific function fails, and periodically review the exception list under Privacy and security > Third-party cookies. Delete stored cookies separately if you also want to clear data already saved on the phone.
For compatibility with a few essential sites
Leave global blocking enabled and create permanent exceptions for the domains you use frequently. This keeps the policy restrictive for other sites without forcing you to repeat a temporary allowance every visit.

Use an Incognito window. Remember that Incognito’s local cleanup and default third-party-cookie block do not prevent websites or network operators from seeing activity, and downloaded files and bookmarks remain afterward.
For troubleshooting one broken page
Start with a temporary allowance for the current site. If that resolves the problem and you trust the site enough to need the feature regularly, convert the permission into a deliberate site exception. If it does not help, clear that site’s stored data and retry rather than disabling the global block immediately.
Review your settings after major Chrome updates
Chrome’s wording and navigation can change between Android releases. After an update, open Settings and confirm that Third-party cookies still shows your intended choice. Also review exceptions: a permission added during troubleshooting can remain active until you remove or change it.
Keep a simple distinction in mind: blocking controls what third-party cookies can be stored in future browsing, an exception permits a chosen site to use them, Incognito creates a temporary session with its own defaults, and deleting browsing data removes information already stored. Using the control that matches your goal avoids unnecessary sign-outs and avoids granting more access than a broken feature requires.
