Each option covers a different route, and none of the sources cited here guarantees that every route to gambling will be blocked.
Choose the right kind of block
Phone settings are a useful first step, but their scope is limited: they can restrict selected apps or named websites on that device. Gambling-specific blockers aim to cover gambling services across supported devices. Self-exclusion applies to participating operators in a particular jurisdiction, while a bank block may restrict gambling payments through that bank.

Restrict betting apps and sites on an iPhone
Block named gambling websites
- Open Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions and turn on Content & Privacy Restrictions if needed.
- Open App Store, Media, Web, & Games > Web Content.
- Select Limit Adult Websites, then add gambling website addresses under Never Allow.
This Apple setting blocks the sites you enter; it is not described as a gambling-specific directory. You may need to add relevant addresses individually and maintain the list as needed. Apple also documents Allowed Apps & Features for hiding or disabling some built-in features, and Screen Time controls for restricting App Store purchases and downloads. Menu names can vary by iOS version; consult Apple’s current iPhone instructions if a label differs.
For extra friction, you could ask someone you trust to keep the Screen Time passcode. That is a practical arrangement, not a guarantee that the restriction cannot be changed or bypassed.

Restrict apps on Android
Google’s Android device controls can set limits for apps or block a selected installed app. Follow Google’s Android instructions for the controls available on your device; the exact route and options may vary.
Android’s documented web filter is aimed at explicit content and search results, not gambling. Google says it applies only in specified versions of Google app, Chrome, Android System WebView, and other apps that integrate the feature; explicit content may still appear in other apps, devices, or browsers.

Family Link is for supervised child accounts
Family Link lets a parent manage apps, screen time, and some content or downloads on a supervised child account. It is not presented as an adult self-blocking tool. Eligibility and features vary, and some apps cannot be blocked if the device or supervision needs them. See Google’s Family Link guide.

The UK Gambling Commission distinguishes gambling-specific software, designed to block gambling websites, from general blocking software that can cover broader categories or set permissions and parental controls. Its guidance mentions GamBan as an example of software intended to block gambling websites or other online gambling services. A product description alone does not establish how effective it will be for a particular person or setup.

In an announcement dated 23 April 2026, the Michigan Gaming Control Board described Gamban as blocking gambling websites and applications on Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS. The board announced free licenses for Michigan residents for one to five years, covering unlimited household devices. Those terms are specific to the state offer in that announcement, not a universal price or availability promise; check the board’s current announcement for eligibility and terms.
Use the official self-exclusion scheme where you live
Self-exclusion is an agreement with gambling businesses or a formal register that restricts access to participating operators. The UK Gambling Commission describes it as “a tool used by those who have recognised that their gambling is harmful to them.” The effect depends on the scheme’s jurisdiction and which businesses must participate.

Great Britain: GAMSTOP and other schemes
GAMSTOP lets a person self-exclude from online operators with one request. It covers websites and apps operated by gambling businesses licensed in Great Britain, not every gambling service everywhere. The Commission also lists separate Great Britain schemes for land-based betting shops, casinos, bingo premises, and adult gaming centres. Find the applicable routes through the Commission’s list of free multi-operator and national self-exclusion schemes.

BetStop is Australia’s National Self-Exclusion Register for licensed online and phone wagering providers. Its service information says registration takes about five minutes, requires identity details, is free, and has a minimum exclusion period of three months. You can nominate up to five support people. While you are registered, providers should not open new wagering accounts, accept bets, or send marketing; the service says existing accounts should be closed and credit refunded. The person must register themselves: a family member cannot register on someone else’s behalf. Check BetStop’s official site for current terms and how to register.

Add a payment barrier through your bank
Some banks let customers block gambling transactions. Ask your bank whether it offers a gambling-payment block, how to switch it on, and which transactions or payment methods it covers. The UK Gambling Commission identifies bank blocks as one option alongside self-exclusion and blocking software, but the availability and operation of individual banks’ controls are not established here.
Make the barriers work together
- Start with the quickest device step: remove betting apps you do not want and use your phone’s app restrictions. On an iPhone, add known gambling URLs to Screen Time’s Never Allow list.
- Add broader blocking: consider gambling-specific software if you need coverage beyond a list of sites on one device. Check supported platforms and current terms before installing.
- Register with the relevant self-exclusion service: confirm that it covers the operators and gambling channels in your jurisdiction.
- Ask your bank about payment blocks: verify what the block applies to rather than assuming it covers every route.
- Review coverage when circumstances change: new devices, browsers, or operators may fall outside a setting or scheme’s scope.
These measures address different access points, so combining them can create more friction than relying on a single setting. The sources do not establish a guaranteed prevention method or independently validated comparative success rate for gambling blockers.
