On supported Samsung Galaxy phones, turn on Caller ID and spam protection, then choose whether to block every call identified as spam or only high-risk scams. The setting is in the Samsung Phone app; the exact options can vary by carrier and software version, and the filter does not guarantee that every unwanted call will be stopped.

Samsung’s instructions use these labels, but they may differ or be unavailable depending on your wireless provider and software version. Samsung’s US Smart Call support page also cautions that the feature may not be available on every carrier or model. Samsung’s Galaxy call-settings instructions and its US Smart Call support page describe the options and availability caveats.
Choose how aggressively to block calls
Samsung offers two thresholds. Choose the one that matches how much filtering you want versus how cautious you want to be about calls being flagged incorrectly.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. | Setting | What it does | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Block all spam and scam calls | Blocks all calls the service identifies as spam or scam. | More aggressive filtering; a legitimate call identified as spam could be blocked. |
| Only block high-risk scam calls | Blocks calls identified as high-risk scams while allowing less-severe spam calls through. | Less aggressive filtering, so some spam calls may still ring. |
Samsung documents what each choice is intended to do, but does not publish comparative accuracy or effectiveness figures for these settings. There is no evidence-based percentage reduction to expect from either option.
Unknown-number blocking is a separate, broader control
If you also want to block callers whose numbers are not recognized, open Phone > Settings > Block numbers and consider the Block calls from unknown numbers toggle. This is different from spam identification: it can also stop wanted calls from numbers you do not recognize. Samsung’s call settings let you block numbers manually or select them from Recents, Messages, or Contacts.

Block or report a call that gets through
If a suspected spam call still arrives, Samsung says you can block or report the number during or after the call. Reporting lets you select a category and optionally add a comment. These options provide a way to respond to a call the filter did not stop; they do not guarantee future calls from other numbers will be blocked.
Automatic Call screening has a newer software requirement
Samsung describes Call screening as a separate feature for automatically screening unknown callers. Samsung’s current stated requirement is Android 16 with One UI 8.5 or higher, so do not expect to find it on every Galaxy phone. See Samsung’s Call screening support page for its eligibility and instructions.

What Smart Call does—and what it does not establish
Samsung describes Smart Call as providing caller identification, spam blocking and reporting, and local business search. Its global newsroom explains that Smart Call features are powered by Hiya and that availability varies by country and device. These descriptions explain the service’s functions, not a guaranteed outcome for an individual phone or a measured reduction in unwanted calls. Samsung’s Smart Call overview provides the feature context.
