Open the person’s profile, select the three-dot menu, choose Block account, and confirm. Bluesky says blocking prevents interaction and limits what each account can see of the other’s posts within the service; it does not make public posts private. Bluesky’s moderation help explains the feature.
How to block someone on Bluesky
The profile menu is the most dependable route in the official app and on the web. Menu wording or placement can vary between releases and other AT Protocol clients.
- Open Bluesky and go to the account’s profile. You can open it from a post, reply, mention, or search result.
- Select the three-dot menu on the profile.
- Choose Block account (or the similarly worded block option).
- Confirm the action if prompted.
Block an account from a post or reply
If the account has posted or replied in a thread you can see, open the three-dot menu on that post or reply and look for Block account. If the option is missing, open the author’s profile and use the profile-menu steps instead. Find blocked accounts and unblock someone
In the official Bluesky service, open moderation settings and select Blocked accounts. Locate the account, choose Unblock, and confirm if asked. The web moderation page is at bsky.app/moderation; the exact route to the list may change with app updates. If you do not see the list, look under Settings → Moderation. Unblocking is a separate action from blocking, as described in the protocol blocking documentation.

What blocking does—and what it cannot guarantee
Bluesky describes blocking as preventing interaction and says the two accounts can no longer see or interact with each other’s posts through the service. Protocol documentation describes blocked interactions including likes, replies, mentions, and follows. The precise experience can depend on the client used. Official help · Protocol documentation.
Blocking is not a privacy setting. Bluesky content is generally public, and a block cannot guarantee that the person will never encounter public material through another account, a different client, screenshots, or other public interfaces. Bluesky has also noted that blocks and some moderation actions are public data. Blocking one account should not be treated as blocking every account belonging to the same person. Bluesky’s official help describes blocking’s effects but does not document whether it sends a direct notification. Someone may nevertheless infer a block if normal visibility or interaction changes.

Bluesky says blocks do not affect moderation lists, distinguishing them from starter packs and curational lists. Blocking the creator of a starter pack or curational user list filters you out of lists that creator makes. Bluesky’s feature announcement.
What to do about harassment, threats, or privacy violations
If conduct may violate Bluesky’s rules, block the account and report the post or account; blocking protects your experience, while reporting asks Bluesky to review the conduct. - Keep relevant screenshots, handles, timestamps, and post URLs if you may need to document what happened.
- For immediate danger or serious threats, contact appropriate local emergency or law-enforcement services; a platform block is not emergency help.
- If the person returns under another account, block and report that account too. Consider tightening reply and chat controls.
If you cannot find the account or blocking is not enough
- Search using the full handle, including its domain portion where applicable, or open the profile from an existing post, reply, mention, or notification.
- If the person may have changed their handle, try an existing profile link or post rather than relying only on the name you remember.
- If you previously blocked the account, find it in Blocked accounts in moderation settings.
- If the account has blocked you, access to its profile or interaction may be limited; an existing link may still help you identify the account.
- For a problem limited to one reply, consider hiding that reply. For a quote-post problem, Bluesky also offers quote-post detachment; these tools address particular content rather than stopping all contact.
- If harassment continues across accounts, report suspected ban evasion under Bluesky’s guidelines and preserve evidence.
