Target the apps and users who need the control, then verify it in the app: policy assignment alone does not prove that the policy has arrived or that the app supports enforcement.
What Intune’s screenshot setting protects
Intune app protection policies (APP), also called mobile application management (MAM) policies, apply data-protection controls to supported apps used in a work or school context. They are not a device-wide setting that blocks every screenshot on a phone. The policy must target the app, be assigned to the user, reach the app, and be supported by its integration or wrapping.

These controls protect organizational data in the managed app; they do not prevent a person from photographing the display with a separate camera.

Create and assign the app protection policy
- In the Intune admin center, open Apps > Protection and create an app protection policy for Android or iOS/iPadOS.
- Select the apps to target. Choices include all apps, Microsoft apps, or core Microsoft apps; the apps available for selection depend on SDK integration or wrapping.
- In the policy’s data protection settings, set the platform’s screen-capture control to Block.
- Assign the policy to the user group that should receive it.
- Review and create the policy. Allow time for it to reach devices and apps that are already in use.
Microsoft recommends pairing app protection policies with Conditional Access to help ensure enforcement. This MAM policy applies to the app’s work context; personal use in the same app is not affected by these policy settings.
iOS/iPadOS interaction with app data-sharing settings
Microsoft’s current Intune change guidance says that apps updated to the latest iOS SDK or wrapping tool can block screen capture when Send Org data to other apps is set to anything other than All apps. The managed-app configuration setting com.microsoft.intune.mam.screencapturecontrol can be set to Disabled to allow screen capture.

Check the intended behavior for the app version and its managed configuration before changing a restrictive data-sharing policy. The screen-capture result can depend on this interaction as well as on the policy’s explicit Screen capture value.

For SDK-integrated Android apps, Microsoft’s developer test guidance is to target a test account and app, confirm that the app receives policy, move through the app, and attempt screenshots on each screen. With the policy applied, screenshots should be blocked or saved as fully blank images. Treat this as a test procedure, not a guarantee for every app or deployment.

If capture still works, check the following in order:
- Assignment: Confirm that the intended user is in the assigned group and the app is included in the policy.
- Policy receipt: Verify that the app has retrieved the intended policy rather than assuming the admin-center configuration has already reached it.
- App support: Check the app’s SDK integration or wrapping and, on iOS/iPadOS, confirm it meets the documented SDK and Xcode-related version requirement.
- iOS data-sharing interaction: Review Send Org data to other apps and the managed-app configuration setting if applicable.
- Representative testing: Test the actual app versions and devices in scope; integration and policy delivery can vary by deployment.
Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365 mobile access
For mobile connections to Azure Virtual Desktop or Windows 365, Microsoft describes a hybrid setup rather than relying on the client policy alone. Configure screen-capture protection on the remote machine or Cloud PC, and configure Intune MAM to block capture in the Android or iOS/iPadOS client. In this documented model, the mobile connection is allowed when both controls block capture; if the MAM policy does not block it, the connection is blocked. Microsoft also directs administrators to use Conditional Access to require the app protection policy for the connection.
