There is no single live-only switch that removes every livestream recommendation across these services. On YouTube, use Not interested, Don’t recommend channel, and, for a broader reset, watch-history controls. Twitch offers Not Interested, channel blocking, and Content Classification Label filters. Facebook’s current video experience includes Live recommendations, but Meta has not published a verified viewer path specifically for hiding recommended live videos, so its live-specific controls cannot be stated reliably.
The controls are surface-specific: an action on a Home shelf may not change Up Next, search, a front-page carousel, or a direct visit to a channel. Use the narrowest control that matches your goal, then check the exceptions below.

What each platform can and cannot do
| Platform | Available control | Typical scope | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube | Not interested; Don’t recommend channel; watch-history controls | One recommendation, a channel on eligible surfaces, or broad Home personalization | Signals tune recommendations rather than creating a guaranteed live-only ban. Home and Up Next use different signals. |
| Live appears in the redesigned video recommendation experience | Meta describes personalized video recommendations, including Live | No current, official viewer instructions were verified for hiding or reducing recommended live videos by creator, category, or surface. | |
| Twitch | Not Interested; channel blocking; Content Classification Label preferences | A shelf or collection, a channel, or selected label categories | Followed streamers and direct channel visits can bypass label filtering. The front-page carousel is curated separately. |
App versions, login state, region, language, device, and engagement can change which menus and shelves you see. If a label is missing, do not assume that another platform’s equivalent action exists under a different name. A control visible on desktop may be absent or relocated in a mobile app, and a signed-out viewer may receive a different set of recommendations than a signed-in viewer.

YouTube’s documented controls are recommendation feedback, not a universal format filter. Remove an individual live recommendation
- On an eligible recommendation surface, locate the live video you do not want.
- Open the video’s More menu (the three-dot menu beside the item).
- Choose Not interested.
This tells YouTube that the particular recommendation is unwanted. It can influence later recommendations, but it does not promise that every live video, every stream from the same creator, or every surface will disappear. Use it when the problem is an isolated stream or when you want to preserve broad video discovery.
If the menu offers a reason or follow-up prompt, complete it when appropriate. The exact prompt can vary by device and surface; do not treat an absent prompt as proof that the feedback was applied globally. You can also repeat the action on several clearly unwanted items, but repeated feedback is still not a documented live-format block.
Reduce recommendations from one channel
- Open the More menu beside a recommendation from the channel.
- Choose Don’t recommend channel when that option is shown.
The option is a channel-level recommendation control on eligible surfaces. It is not the same as blocking a YouTube account, and it does not prevent you from finding the channel through a direct search or another route. It also should not be read as an unfollow action: a channel’s subscriptions, notifications, comments, and deliberate visits are separate account functions.

Use watch-history controls for a broader Home change
YouTube documents watch and search history as recommendation inputs. Turning off and deleting watch history can remove video recommendations from Home when an account has no significant prior watch history. Use the history controls in your YouTube account settings, review the warning about how history affects other experiences, and then turn off or delete the history option you intend to change.
This is a broad intervention, not a live-only filter. It can change the basis for other Home recommendations, so it is usually better to start with Not interested or Don’t recommend channel if you only want fewer livestreams.
History changes are also less reversible in practice than a single feedback click: turning history back on does not recreate deleted viewing data. Before deleting anything, decide whether you rely on watch history for finding previously viewed videos or for personalized Home suggestions. If several people use one account, a history reset can affect everyone sharing that profile.

Why YouTube may still show live streams
YouTube recommendations appear on more than one surface. According to How YouTube recommendations work, Home relies primarily on watch history, while suggestions for the video currently playing rely heavily on that video. A feedback action on Home therefore should not be presented as a guaranteed change to Up Next, and a history change that affects Home should not be presented as a universal removal method.
- Home: primarily influenced by your watch history and recommendation feedback.
- Up Next: strongly influenced by the video you are currently watching, so related live content can still appear.
- Search and direct visits: are discovery paths rather than recommendation shelves; recommendation feedback does not erase results you deliberately seek.
- Notifications and subscriptions: are separate from recommendation feedback, so a subscribed channel can still alert you or appear in subscription views.
Choosing the least disruptive YouTube action
| Your goal | Use first | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| One unwanted live video | Not interested | Provides item-level feedback on an eligible shelf. |
| Repeated live streams from one creator | Don’t recommend channel | Provides channel-level recommendation feedback where offered. |
| A major reset of Home suggestions | Watch-history controls | Changes a broad recommendation signal and may affect other history-dependent experiences. |
| You still want to find a creator manually | Use feedback rather than account blocking | Reduces automated suggestions without claiming to remove search or direct visits. |
Twitch: hide a shelf item, block a channel, or filter labels
Twitch separates recommendation feedback, channel blocking, and content-label preferences. The controls are described in Twitch Help’s How to Customize Content You See on Twitch and in Twitch’s Recommendations On Twitch explanation.
Remove a recommendation from a shelf or collection
- Find the recommended channel, category, or section on a Twitch recommendation shelf or collection.
- Open its three-dot menu.
- Choose Not Interested.
Twitch describes this as removing the item from that shelf or collection. Its legal explanation also says logged-in users can remove recommended channels, categories, and other items with Not Interested. Because the control is tied to a shelf or collection, it should not be treated as a promise that the same item will vanish from every Twitch surface.
This is the practical first step when one tile, category, or recommendation row is irrelevant but you do not want to block the streamer. It is feedback rather than a permanent account-wide prohibition, and shelf contents can be regenerated as Twitch updates its selections.

- Open the channel’s available options menu.
- Choose the channel-blocking action.
- Confirm the block if Twitch asks you to do so.
Twitch Help states: “Block a channel to remove it from your recommendations permanently.” That statement concerns Twitch recommendations; it does not claim that blocking erases every possible reference to the channel across the service. A direct search or other user-initiated path can still be distinct from an automated recommendation.
Blocking is stronger than Not Interested when one streamer is the recurring problem. It is also a more deliberate choice if you may later want to watch that channel: check your account’s blocked-channel settings if you need to reverse it. The exact location of an unblock control can vary with Twitch’s current app or website layout.
Filter streams by Content Classification Labels
- Open your Twitch profile settings.
- Go to Content Preferences.
- Open Content Display Preferences.
- Choose the Content Classification Labels whose streams you want to hide or blur.
Twitch says streams carrying selected filtered labels will not be recommended or shown in category browsing or search. Two exceptions matter: followed streamers are exempt, and a direct visit to a channel can still show the stream. Label filtering therefore works best when the problem is a type of content, not a specific creator you intentionally follow.

Filtering labels is different from hiding every live stream. It targets streams carrying the selected classifications, while an unlabelled stream or a stream from a followed channel may remain visible. If you need a particular creator gone, use channel blocking instead of relying on a category label.

Understand Twitch’s front-page carousel
The Twitch front-page carousel is a special case. Twitch says it “is not populated through an automated system or your interactions”; it is curated by staff. Blocking a channel removes it from that carousel for you, but ordinary shelf feedback and carousel selection are not the same mechanism.
Twitch also notes that shelf selection and order can depend on region, language, device, login state, engagement, and watch history, and that live channels are prioritized more frequently. This is why two viewers can see different live shelves even when they use the same app version. A carousel change should therefore not be used to infer that a category filter or ordinary recommendation signal has changed everywhere.
Match the Twitch control to the problem
| Problem | Best-fit control | Scope and caveat |
|---|---|---|
| One shelf or collection keeps showing an unwanted item | Not Interested | Removes the item from that shelf or collection; other surfaces may differ. |
| One channel should stop appearing in recommendations | Block the channel | Twitch describes this as permanent removal from recommendations; it is not a guarantee that every reference disappears. |
| You want fewer streams carrying certain labels | Content Classification Label preferences | Filtered labels are excluded from recommendations, category browsing, and search, with followed-channel and direct-visit exceptions. |
| A blocked channel appears in the front-page carousel | Block the channel and reload the page | The carousel is staff-curated, but Twitch says blocking removes that channel from the carousel for the viewer. |
Facebook: what is confirmed about Live recommendations
Meta’s April 2024 announcement says Facebook’s updated full-screen video experience uses a consistent design for Reels, longer videos, and Live videos, with more relevant video recommendations based on viewers’ interests. See Exploring Videos on Facebook Just Got Easier.
Meta’s August 31, 2020 Recommendation Guidelines announcement describes personalized recommendations across its apps, including Pages, Groups, and Events, based on interests and actions. These announcements establish that Live can be part of Facebook’s recommendation experience, but they do not provide a current, verified viewer procedure for hiding recommended live videos by creator, category, or surface.
Why there is no reliable Facebook step list here
Facebook’s menus and video surfaces change frequently by app version, account, region, and device. The available evidence does not confirm a live-specific viewer control equivalent to YouTube’s Don’t recommend channel or Twitch’s label filtering. Generic advice such as hiding a post should not be described as a verified way to suppress recommended Live videos.
If your current Facebook interface presents a recommendation menu, read the exact label and its scope before using it. A control that hides one video, unfollows a creator, or changes a feed preference may affect a different surface than the full-screen video viewer. Because a current official live-specific path has not been established, do not assume that an action in one menu will remove Live recommendations everywhere.

Do not confuse creator controls with viewer controls. A page or streamer may offer settings for who can see a broadcast, but those settings govern the broadcaster’s audience rather than your personal recommendation feed. Likewise, unfollowing a page is not documented here as a complete way to suppress all recommended Live content from that page or from similar creators.

Start with the smallest change that addresses the unwanted recommendation. Broad history changes can have side effects, while item-level feedback may be too weak when one channel dominates a shelf.

Note whether the item appeared on Home, Up Next, a shelf, a category page, search, or a front-page carousel.

- Check exceptions. Look for followed-channel exemptions, direct visits, curated shelves, and surfaces that use different signals.
- Check your account state. Confirm that you are signed in to the account whose recommendations you are changing; a different profile, guest session, or shared device can produce a different feed.
- Recheck after normal use. Recommendation systems can change as new viewing, search, and engagement signals arrive; one action is feedback, not a guaranteed permanent format ban.
Common expectations that lead to disappointment
“Not interested” is not the same as blocking live video
On YouTube, Not interested and Don’t recommend channel are signals that may tune recommendations. On Twitch, Not Interested removes an item from a shelf or collection. Neither platform documents these actions as a universal switch that bans every livestream from every surface.
A channel control is not an account-wide erase
Channel-level recommendation controls target automated suggestions. They do not necessarily prevent search results, direct visits, followed-channel activity, or references on a separately curated surface.
History controls have a wider blast radius
Turning off or deleting YouTube watch history can affect Home recommendations and other history-dependent experiences. Use it when the broader consequence is acceptable, not as a narrowly targeted live-stream filter.
Curated and personalized surfaces are different
Twitch’s front-page carousel is staff-curated, while many shelves use recommendation signals. A control designed for one mechanism may not behave identically on the other.
Following and blocking are not interchangeable
Following a creator can keep that creator visible even when a content-label filter is active on Twitch. Blocking a channel is a recommendation-removal action, while unfollowing or muting notifications addresses different parts of the viewing experience. Choose based on whether you want fewer suggestions, fewer alerts, or no intentional relationship with the channel.
Best Value
Troubleshooting when live recommendations continue
- YouTube: Check whether you acted on Home or Up Next, and whether the option was Not interested or Don’t recommend channel. If you changed history, remember that the documented effect is strongest on Home when the account has little or no significant prior watch history.
- Twitch: Verify whether the item came from a shelf, category browsing, search, or the front-page carousel. Check whether the channel is followed or whether you opened it directly; both can explain why a label-filtered stream remains visible.
- Facebook: Confirm the exact surface and menu wording in your current app or browser. Meta’s published announcements confirm Live recommendations but do not verify a current live-specific suppression path.
- Any platform: Check login state, region, language, device, and app version. These factors can alter shelves, labels, and recommendation order.
- Several people use the device: Make sure another person has not switched profiles or interacted with the same account, since shared viewing and search signals can alter recommendations.
- A recommendation returns: Record whether it is the same channel, category, or merely another live video. That distinction tells you whether to repeat item feedback, block a channel, or adjust a label or history setting.
Practical takeaway
For YouTube, begin with Not interested for individual items and Don’t recommend channel when one creator is the source; reserve history changes for a broad Home reset. On Twitch, use Not Interested for a shelf, blocking for a channel, and Content Classification Label preferences for categories, while remembering the followed-channel, direct-visit, and curated-carousel exceptions. On Facebook, Live is part of the personalized video experience, but a current official viewer procedure for suppressing recommended Live videos has not been confirmed, so avoid treating generic hide or feed actions as a verified live-only solution.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I stop YouTube from recommending live streams?
Use the three-dot More menu beside an unwanted recommendation and choose Not interested. If one creator is responsible, choose Don’t recommend channel when it appears. These actions tune recommendations; they are not a guaranteed live-only ban across Home, Up Next, search, and direct visits.
Can I block all live videos on YouTube?
YouTube’s documented controls do not provide a universal live-format switch. Watch-history controls can broadly change Home recommendations, but they also affect other history-dependent experiences and do not guarantee that live videos disappear from every surface.
How do I stop Twitch recommending a channel?
On a recommendation shelf, use Not Interested for a lighter, shelf-specific response. For stronger channel-level removal, block the channel. Twitch Help says blocking removes a channel from recommendations permanently, while noting that this statement concerns recommendations rather than every possible reference to the channel.
Why can a Twitch stream still appear after I filter its label?
Twitch says filtered-label streams are not recommended or shown in category browsing or search, but followed streamers are exempt and a direct visit can still show the stream. The front-page carousel is also staff-curated, so it does not use exactly the same mechanism as ordinary shelves.
How do I hide live videos on Facebook?
Meta confirms that Live videos are included in Facebook’s personalized full-screen video experience, but a current official viewer procedure for suppressing recommended Live videos by creator, category, or surface has not been confirmed. Do not treat generic hide-post or unfollow actions as verified live-only controls.
Will blocking a channel stop every mention of it?
No platform statement here promises that. Blocking or channel-level recommendation controls target automated recommendations. Search results, direct visits, followed-channel activity, notifications, and separately curated surfaces can have different rules.
Do I need an extension, router, or paid app to limit livestream recommendations?
No. The documented controls are account settings and in-feed actions on YouTube and Twitch. A generic device, router, or third-party service is not required for the platform controls described here.
Why do two viewers see different live recommendations?
Recommendation shelves can depend on account activity, watch history, engagement, region, language, device, and login state. Twitch also says live channels are prioritized more frequently and that its front-page carousel is curated by staff, so feeds are not identical.
The Bottom Line
Use the narrowest control that fits. YouTube offers item and channel feedback plus broad history controls; Twitch separates shelf feedback, blocking, and label filtering; Facebook confirms Live recommendations but not a current live-only viewer switch. Expect surface-specific behavior and exceptions rather than a universal livestream ban.
