Turn on your browser’s built-in site and download protections, and stop when a warning appears. Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge each offer these safeguards, but their settings and coverage differ—and none guarantees that every malicious page or file will be blocked.
Enable protection in the browser you use
Use the browser’s own security controls rather than relying on a pop-up blocker or assuming that another browser’s settings apply. Menu labels may shift between versions.

Google Chrome
- Open More → Settings → Privacy and security → Security.
- Choose a Safe Browsing level. Standard protection is Chrome’s default and checks for known dangerous sites, downloads, and extensions. Enhanced protection adds checks intended to warn about potential new dangers and suspicious downloads. Google describes the options in its Chrome Safe Browsing settings guidance.
Enhanced protection has a privacy tradeoff: Google says it sends additional browsing information, including URLs, small samples of page content and activity, extension activity, and system information, to provide stronger protection against known and potential threats. Choose it with that data sharing in mind.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Mozilla Firefox
- Open Menu → Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Find the Security section and keep these protections checked: Block dangerous and deceptive content, Block dangerous downloads, and Warn you about unwanted and uncommon software.
Firefox can show warnings for suspicious sites and downloads it identifies as unwanted or potentially harmful. Mozilla’s phishing and malware protection instructions were last updated September 3, 2026. Labels can move in later versions.
Microsoft Edge
- Open Settings and more → Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Security.
- Turn on Microsoft Defender SmartScreen.
SmartScreen checks visited sites against a dynamic list of reported phishing and malicious-software sites, screens downloads, warns about known unsafe files, and can warn when a file is uncommon among Edge users. In a work or school environment, an administrator may control the setting. Microsoft’s Edge security guidance explains the protection.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
Edge also has a separate scareware blocker for deceptive full-screen alerts. Microsoft says it is enabled by default on devices with more than 2 GB of RAM and at least five cores. Devices with 2 GB of RAM or fewer than five cores may require manual enablement; the feature is unsupported below 1 GB of RAM or two cores. See Microsoft’s scareware blocker documentation. This is an additional feature, not a substitute for SmartScreen.

The available vendor guidance does not provide a controlled, head-to-head effectiveness comparison, so it does not support ranking one browser as objectively safest.

What to do when a site or download warning appears
- Pause. Do not continue to the page or open the file while you assess the warning.
- Check the address. Make sure the domain is the official site you intended to visit, not a lookalike or an unexpected redirect.
- Verify the file. Ask whether you expected the download and whether you can confirm its source and publisher. If not, cancel it.
- Ignore pressure tactics. Do not install a “codec,” update, or cleanup tool prompted by an alarming webpage, and do not call a phone number shown in a fake infection alert.
Google notes that attackers may urge people to ignore download warnings to avoid antivirus detection. A warning is not proof that every flagged item is malicious, but bypassing it without verifying the file is an unnecessary risk. Chrome’s guidance is to take download warnings seriously: Chrome download warnings.

A valid HTTPS certificate means the connection uses encryption; it does not show that the site is reputable or that its content is harmless. Confirm the domain and pay attention to browser reputation warnings. Microsoft explains the distinction in its secure browsing guidance.

- Tri-Band WiFi 6E Router - Up to 5400 Mbps WiFi for faster browsing, streaming, gaming and downloading, all at the same time(6 GHz: 2402 Mbps;5 GHz: 2402 Mbps;2.4 GHz: 574 Mbps)
- WiFi 6E Unleashed – The 6 GHz band brings more bandwidth, faster speeds, and near-zero latency; Enables more responsive gaming and video chatting
- Connect More Devices—True Tri-Band and OFDMA technology increase capacity by 4 times to enable simultaneous transmission to more devices
- Unique Design, More RAM, Better Processing - A unique housing design provides optimal heat dissipation, combined with a 1.0 GHz dual-core CPU and 512 MB High-Speed Memory, the AXE75 is designed for long-term reliability and performance.
- EasyMesh-compatible - Extend network range even more by adding EasyMesh-compatible routers, extenders, or wireless powerline adapters for a seamless, whole-home connection. Eliminate dead zones, drops, and lag as you move across your home.
Pop-up blocking is also a separate feature. Microsoft says pop-up blockers stop most pop-ups, which are usually advertisements and are not necessarily malicious; SmartScreen performs site and download checks. A quiet page is not evidence that its domain or downloads have been checked. See Edge’s explanation of security features.
