There is no single One UI switch that removes every advertisement from a Samsung Galaxy phone. The correct setting depends on where the ad appears. Samsung Internet can block pop-ups and filter page content with an ad-blocker add-on; lock-screen ads usually come from a third-party app or a browser setting; and Samsung’s personalization controls change how marketing is tailored rather than removing ads from web pages.
Start by identifying the location of the ad, then use the matching procedure below. Menu names can differ by Galaxy model, country, One UI release, and Samsung Internet version.

First identify where the ad appears
Do not install a browser blocker to solve an advertisement that is being drawn by another app. Use this quick diagnosis before changing settings.

Samsung’s US support documentation calls the browser “Samsung Internet” in some articles and “Samsung Browser” in others. Treat those names as the same Samsung browser family for these instructions.

Block pop-ups in Samsung Internet
A pop-up blocker targets unsolicited windows and tabs. It is the quickest fix when tapping a page unexpectedly opens another page, but it is not a complete advertising filter.
- Open Samsung Internet on your Galaxy phone.
- Tap Menu, shown as three horizontal lines.
- Tap Settings.
- Open Privacy dashboard.
- Turn on Block pop-ups.
Close any tabs that were opened before enabling the setting and try the site again. A page can still display ordinary banners or sponsored content because those elements are part of the page itself rather than separate pop-up windows. If a legitimate site’s sign-in or payment window stops working, return to the same switch temporarily, complete the task, and enable it again afterward.
Install an ad blocker for Samsung Internet
For broader filtering in Samsung Internet, use one of the ad-blocker add-ons presented inside the browser. Samsung says availability depends on the device and region, and some add-ons may require payment.
- Open Samsung Internet.
- Open the browser menu. Depending on the release, tap Menu or open the Tools icon.
- Tap Ad blockers.
- Choose an available blocker and tap its install or download control.
- After installation, confirm that the blocker’s switch is on. Samsung’s newer instructions say an installed blocker is enabled automatically and appears in the installed list, where you can change its switch.
Load a few pages again after installation. A blocker can reduce advertising and tracking elements, but websites may still show ads that are not covered by its filter lists, first-party promotions, or content deliberately integrated into an article. Blocking can also change page layout or prevent a site’s video player, login flow, or checkout from loading.
How many blockers can run together?
Samsung’s developer documentation says Samsung Internet can enable and use up to five ad-blocking apps at the same time. That limit is a technical maximum, not a recommendation to install five. Multiple overlapping filter lists can slow page rendering, create conflicting rules, or break sites. Start with one blocker, test the pages you use, and add another only if you understand why it is needed.

The developer documentation’s developer mode is intended for people building ad-blocker integrations. A normal phone owner does not need developer mode to install and enable a blocker offered through Samsung Internet.
Check what Samsung Internet actually blocked
The browser’s Privacy dashboard reports blocked content, including ads and trackers. Use it to distinguish a working filter from a site that is simply showing content the filter does not recognize.

- Open Privacy or Privacy dashboard, depending on the version.
- Review the blocked-content information for the current browsing session or page.
- If available, review related protections such as warnings about malicious sites and blocking automatic downloads.
These indicators describe protection inside Samsung Internet. They do not prove that advertisements are being blocked in other browsers, apps, notifications, or the lock screen.
When a site needs an exception
If a site refuses to play a video, submit a form, or display a menu after filtering is enabled, turn off the blocker for that site if the add-on provides an allow-list or pause control. Otherwise, switch the blocker off briefly from Menu > Ad blockers, test the page, and turn it back on when finished. Keep the pop-up switch enabled unless the site specifically requires a pop-up.

Remove ads from the lock screen or charging screen
A browser ad-blocker is not the right remedy for an advertisement shown before you unlock the phone. Samsung’s support guidance states: “Samsung does not place ads on the lock screen.” The company says these ads are usually caused by a third-party app or a browser setting.
Find a recently installed app
- Think back to when the lock-screen ads began.
- Open Settings > Apps and sort or review apps installed or updated around that time.
- Start with unfamiliar wallpaper, flashlight, cleaner, launcher, file, or free utility apps, especially ones that request permission to appear over other apps or send frequent notifications.
- Uninstall one suspicious app at a time.
- Lock the phone and wait through several lock/unlock cycles to see whether the ads stop.
Testing one removal at a time identifies the cause and avoids deleting several useful apps unnecessarily. If the ads continue, restore only apps you trust and inspect browser notification and site settings as well.

Samsung identifies a specific exception: when Samsung Global Goals is configured, advertisements can appear on the screen while the phone is charging. Open the Samsung Global Goals app, enter its settings, and turn off Charge screen ads. The exact location of that switch can vary by app version. This setting concerns the charging screen; it does not control advertisements inside Samsung Internet.
Do not confuse notifications with lock-screen ads
A notification can look like a lock-screen advertisement even though it is generated by an app. When one appears, press and hold the notification to identify its app, then choose that app’s notification settings or uninstall it if you do not need it. This is different from a web pop-up and will not be fixed by the Samsung Internet pop-up switch.

Reduce personalized Samsung marketing
Samsung provides privacy controls for personalization and direct marketing. They can reduce tailoring of Samsung promotions, but they do not remove banners from websites or advertisements embedded in third-party apps.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Privacy.
- Open Customisation Service.
- Turn off Customise this phone and Customised ads and direct marketing, where those options are shown.
- Open Ads.
- Select Opt out of Ads Personalization.
Samsung’s US security guidance describes Customization Service and separate Google privacy controls, while localized support pages use the spelling “Customisation.” Your phone may show only one of these labels, or place the controls under a slightly different privacy submenu. Changing them limits personalization signals; it does not function as a content-blocking filter.

Ads inside another app need an app-level solution
If an advertisement appears inside a game, news reader, launcher, utility, or social app, Samsung Internet settings cannot reach it. Check that app’s own settings for a free or paid ad-free option, review its notification and overlay permissions, or uninstall it. Some apps are designed around advertising and have no switch to remove it.
Do not grant an unknown “ad blocker” app broad accessibility, device-administrator, or notification access merely because it promises phone-wide blocking. Those permissions can expose sensitive information or interfere with other apps. Prefer controls exposed by Samsung Internet or the app that is actually displaying the advertisement.

When the menu labels do not match
Samsung’s regional support pages warn that models, menu order, and settings vary by location and purchase market. One guide places ad blockers under Tools; another places them under the main Menu. Browser updates can also rename “Privacy dashboard” or show “Privacy” instead.
- Update Samsung Internet from the Galaxy Store if an update is offered, then reopen it.
- Open the browser’s main menu and look for entries containing Privacy, Ad blockers, or Tools.
- Use the Settings search field for “pop-ups,” “ad blocker,” “Customisation Service,” or “ads.”
- Confirm that you are in Samsung Internet rather than Chrome or another browser; each browser has separate controls.
- If an option is absent, check Samsung support for the phone’s country and software version. Do not assume that a control documented for one regional build is available on every Galaxy model.
Some older or carrier-specific builds may not expose every add-on or privacy feature. The absence of an Ad blockers entry means Samsung Internet cannot offer that feature in the current build; it is not a sign that another One UI switch is hidden elsewhere.
Troubleshoot persistent ads systematically
- Record the location. Note whether the ad is a pop-up, a page element, a notification, a lock-screen image, or a charging-screen message.
- Apply only the matching control. Enable Block pop-ups for browser windows, install an Ad blocker for page content, or investigate the source app for lock-screen and in-app ads.
- Retest after each change. Use the same site or lock-screen action so you know which change produced the result.
- Inspect recent apps. If lock-screen advertising began after an installation or update, remove candidates one at a time.
- Check permissions and notifications. An overlay or notification can imitate an advertisement even when no web page is open.
- Review filter status. Confirm the installed blocker’s switch is on and look at Samsung Internet’s Privacy dashboard.
- Temporarily allow a broken site. If a page fails only with filtering enabled, pause the blocker for that site rather than disabling all browser protection permanently.
A restart can clear a stuck browser tab or notification, but it will not remove an app that is deliberately generating advertising. If the same lock-screen ad returns after a restart, continue the app and feature checks instead of repeatedly toggling browser settings.
Privacy, compatibility, and maintenance trade-offs
Ad blocking changes what a web page is allowed to load. Filter lists are maintained by third parties and can become outdated, over-block a script, or miss a newly created advertising domain. Keep Samsung Internet and the selected blocker updated through their normal app-update channels.
Some websites fund their content through advertising and may ask you to disable a blocker. Decide case by case, and avoid downloading a replacement “codec,” “cleaner,” or security tool offered through an aggressive ad. A pop-up that claims your phone is infected is not evidence of an infection; close the tab, verify the browser’s protections, and investigate any app that appears to be creating notifications or overlays.
Samsung’s simultaneous-use limit of five ad-blocking apps is a compatibility ceiling, not an effectiveness score. One well-maintained filter is generally easier to troubleshoot than several overlapping lists. If a blocker causes repeated crashes or broken pages, disable it from Samsung Internet’s Ad blockers list and test the browser before deciding whether to reinstall it.

- Only unwanted tabs or windows: enable Block pop-ups in the Privacy dashboard.
- Ads embedded in Samsung Internet pages: install and enable one listed Ad blocker, then verify results in the Privacy dashboard.
- Ads on the lock screen: inspect recently installed or updated apps and browser notifications; Samsung says Samsung itself does not place these ads there.
- Ads while charging: open Samsung Global Goals and disable Charge screen ads if that feature is configured.
- Personalized Samsung promotions: change Customisation Service and Opt out of Ads Personalization settings.
- Ads in a game or utility: use that app’s own ad-free option, notification controls, or uninstall it.
These settings work together only when each is aimed at the source of the advertisement. One UI provides several targeted controls, not a phone-wide ad-blocking master switch.
