There is no single Samsung Galaxy switch that reliably removes every advertisement embedded in third-party apps. The dependable fix is to identify the app producing the ads and uninstall or disable it when you do not need it. Other controls have narrower jobs: Samsung Internet can reduce advertising on websites, Android privacy settings can reduce app-based ad personalization, and Safe mode can help identify an unwanted third-party app.
Start by identifying where the ad appears
An advertisement inside an app is delivered differently from a pop-up on a website or an ad shown on the lock screen. Choosing the wrong control wastes time and can make a successful setting look broken.

Can a Galaxy phone block ads in every app?
Samsung’s current support instructions do not document a Galaxy-wide control that strips advertising from all third-party apps. Android’s privacy controls can stop apps from supplying some ad suggestions, but they do not remove the advertising code built into an app. A browser ad blocker also operates inside the browser; it is not established as a system-wide in-app blocker.
That distinction matters because an app may download an advert directly from its own servers, display a sponsored card as part of its interface, or use a notification to promote something. A setting designed for web pop-ups cannot reliably change those app-level behaviors.
Samsung UK Support gives the concise warning “Unfortunately you probably can’t” when discussing stopping pop-up ads altogether. In context, that statement concerns pop-ups and should not be read as proof that every type of in-app advertising is impossible to manage. It does explain why there is no universal promise to remove all advertising without addressing the source app.

When ads are confined to one app
1. Check the app’s own controls
Open the app that displays the advertisement and look through its Settings, Account, Privacy, or Notifications pages. Some apps offer an ad-free subscription or a one-time upgrade; others let you disable promotional notifications but leave in-app adverts in place. The exact choices are controlled by the app developer, not by Samsung.
2. Decide whether the app is worth keeping
If the app is unnecessary, uninstalling it is the clearest device-level remedy supported by Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance. Removing the source stops that app from running its advertising code, sending its notifications, or placing its own lock-screen content.

An ordinary free app may show an advert in its normal interface. A suspicious app is more likely when ads appear outside the app, begin immediately after an install or update, or continue when no recognizable app is open. In that situation, do not assume that changing an advertising ID will solve the problem; investigate the app itself and run Samsung’s diagnostics.
4. Recheck after removal
Restart the phone normally and use it for a while after uninstalling the suspected app. If the ads stop, you have identified the cause. If they continue, repeat the recent-install review rather than installing several unrelated “cleaner” or “ad blocker” utilities that may create another source of notifications.
When ads appear over other screens or as notifications
Review recent downloads and updates
Write down when the problem began, then compare that time with apps installed or updated shortly beforehand. Samsung specifically points to a recent download or update as a common cause of unexpected lock-screen advertising. Start with apps you do not recognize, apps installed outside your normal routine, and apps whose notifications began at the same time.
Use Safe mode to isolate third-party apps
Safe mode starts the phone without running third-party apps. The exact entry gesture varies by Galaxy model and software version, but the usual route is to open the power menu, touch and hold Power off, and choose Safe mode when that option appears. If your model presents a different prompt, search Settings or Samsung Support for the model-specific Safe mode instructions.

Use the phone in Safe mode long enough to see whether the unwanted overlays or notifications return:
- Ads stop in Safe mode: a third-party app is the likely cause. Restart normally, then uninstall recent or suspicious apps one at a time, beginning with the most likely source.
- Ads continue in Safe mode: the cause may not be a normal third-party app, or the behavior may be coming from a browser, a Samsung feature, or a different notification path. Continue with the lock-screen and browser checks below.
Safe mode is a diagnostic state, not a permanent ad-blocking feature. It does not remove an app; it only prevents third-party apps from running during the test.
Run Samsung’s built-in safety check
On supported Galaxy layouts, open Settings > Device care > Diagnostics > App safety Diagnostics. Review any flagged application and remove software you do not trust. Samsung notes that menu names and locations vary by model and software version, so use the Settings search field for Diagnostics, App safety, or Device care if the listed path is absent.
Check notification controls only after identifying the sender
If the adverts arrive as notifications, use the notification information for one of those messages to identify the app that sent it. Turn off that app’s promotional notifications where the app or Galaxy notification settings provide the option. Disabling a notification hides that delivery channel; it does not remove advertisements displayed inside the app itself.
How to stop lock-screen advertising
Check for a third-party source
Samsung says lock-screen ads commonly follow an app download or update. Review recent apps and use Safe mode if necessary. Once you identify the source, uninstall it or change its own lock-screen or notification setting.
Check Samsung Global Goals
If Samsung Global Goals is installed, open the app and review its settings for a lock-screen advertising option. Disable its lock-screen ads if enabled. This check is separate from removing an unrelated app: Global Goals can be the intentional source of lock-screen content even when the rest of the phone behaves normally.

Do not confuse a lock-screen ad with a browser pop-up
A browser page left open in the background and an app-generated lock-screen message may look similar, but they require different fixes. If the message returns before you open a browser, investigate apps and Global Goals first.
Block pop-ups and advertising while browsing
Samsung Internet
- Open Samsung Internet.
- Open the browser menu and choose Settings.
- Open Privacy dashboard and enable Block pop-ups.
- Return to the browser menu and open Ad blockers.
- Review the suggested blockers and install one only if it suits your device, region, and budget.
Samsung notes that some suggested ad blockers may not be free. These controls target websites viewed in Samsung Internet. They do not establish that adverts embedded in other installed apps will be blocked.

Chrome
Chrome has separate pop-up and advertising-privacy settings. Open Chrome’s Settings and review its site settings for pop-ups and redirects, along with its advertising or privacy controls. The labels and available choices can change with the Chrome release and Galaxy software version; use Settings search when a label in an older guide is missing.
Browser controls can reduce malicious redirects and intrusive website pop-ups, but they cannot remove an advert that a different app draws inside its own screen.
Reduce personalized advertising without expecting fewer ads
Turn off app-suggested ads in Android
- Open Settings.
- Choose Google.
- Open All services.
- Select Privacy & security.
- Choose Ads, then Ads privacy.
- Open App suggested ads and turn off Allow app-suggested ads.
Google describes this as a control over ad suggestions shared from apps. Its Android Help wording is explicit: “Blocked apps will no longer store ad suggestions with Android, but you may still get ads related to those apps.” In practical terms, the change can reduce personalization or cross-app suggestions; it is not an ad-removal switch.
Review Samsung’s advertising-ID options
Samsung’s security and privacy guidance also describes controls for resetting the advertising ID or preventing apps from using it. The wording and location can vary by Galaxy model, One UI release, and region. Search Settings for advertising ID, ads, or privacy, then read the explanation shown on your phone before changing the setting.

Resetting or restricting the advertising ID changes how apps associate activity with an advertising profile. It does not uninstall an app, disable its ad-serving code, or guarantee that the number of adverts will fall.

A practical decision path
- Record the context: note whether the ad appears inside one app, over other screens, as a notification, on the lock screen, or only in a browser.
- For one-app advertising: inspect that app’s settings, then uninstall it if you do not want its ads or behavior.
- For overlays or unexplained notifications: compare recent installs and updates, test Safe mode, and remove the likely third-party source.
- For lock-screen content: check both recent apps and Samsung Global Goals.
- For websites: configure pop-up blocking and an optional ad blocker in the browser you use.
- For less targeted advertising: change app-suggested ads or advertising-ID settings, understanding that the ads themselves may remain.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Expecting a browser blocker to protect every app
Samsung Internet’s controls are scoped to Samsung Internet. Installing or enabling one does not prove that a game, social app, file utility, or other program will stop showing its own adverts.
Disabling personalization and calling it ad blocking
App-suggested ads and advertising-ID controls affect targeting signals. They are privacy choices, not a promise of an empty interface. Keep the distinction clear when judging whether a change worked.
Ignoring the timing of an app update
If ads began immediately after an update, include updated apps in the investigation even if you installed them months ago. The relevant source may be an existing app whose behavior changed.
Installing several new utilities during troubleshooting
Every new utility adds another possible notification or overlay source. Diagnose with Safe mode and Device Care first, then remove the app that explains the behavior instead of stacking unverified blockers.
Assuming every Galaxy model has the same menu
Samsung warns that menu names and layouts vary by model and software version. If a path does not exist, search Settings for the distinctive term in the instruction—such as App safety Diagnostics, app-suggested ads, or advertising ID—and confirm that the result belongs to the relevant Samsung or Google service.
When a setting appears to have done nothing
- If turning off app-suggested ads changed nothing, that is expected when the app is displaying its own embedded adverts.
- If browser pop-up blocking changed nothing, verify that the unwanted content is actually opening in that browser rather than appearing as a notification or overlay from another app.
- If Safe mode removes the ads but they return after a normal restart, uninstall recent or suspicious third-party apps until the behavior stops.
- If no app is obvious and the behavior continues, run Device Care’s App safety Diagnostics where available and review the lock-screen and Global Goals settings.
- If a menu is missing, do not substitute a different setting simply because its name sounds similar; Galaxy software and regional availability differ.
What to expect after you finish
The reliable outcome depends on the source. Removing the app that generates overlays or notifications should stop that app’s advertising behavior. Browser controls can reduce pop-ups on websites. Privacy controls can reduce some app-supplied suggestions and targeting. None of those results should be generalized into a promise that every advertisement on a Galaxy phone will disappear, because the reviewed Samsung and Google guidance does not establish such a universal control.
