Samsung Internet does not provide one switch that removes advertising from every app on a Galaxy phone. To reduce ads while browsing, open Samsung Internet’s Ad blockers menu, install a compatible third-party blocker, and confirm that it is enabled. Then turn on Block pop-ups separately under Menu > Settings > Privacy dashboard. These controls apply to supported web pages in Samsung Internet, not to YouTube, games, social-media apps, the home screen, or other browsers.
What Samsung Internet can block
Samsung Internet, which Samsung support documentation may also call Samsung Browser, offers two related but separate protections:

- Content blocking: The browser can install compatible third-party ad-blocking apps from its own Ad blockers screen. These add-ons filter supported advertising and other page content while you browse in Samsung Internet.
- Pop-up blocking: A built-in Block pop-ups switch limits web pages that open extra browser windows.
Samsung describes the listed blockers as third-party apps certified for Browser. That is why the menu presents an app list instead of a single, system-wide advertising switch. The exact apps shown can change by Galaxy model, Browser version, country, and store availability.

Neither control guarantees that every advertisement or tracker will disappear. A site can use advertising that a particular filter does not identify, and some pages may not work normally when content is blocked.

Before you start
Make sure you are changing settings in Samsung Internet, not in another browser installed on the phone. Samsung’s Browser FAQ describes the browser as available for Galaxy phones running Android 5.0 or later, but that general compatibility statement does not mean every blocker is offered for every Android version, device, or country.
Keep the phone connected to the internet while you open the blocker list because installation takes you through an app download. The list and its prices are the current source of availability for your particular installation. A guide written for another Galaxy model may show different icons, names, or entries.
Install and enable an ad blocker
Use the blocker list built into Samsung Internet rather than downloading an unrelated browser extension and expecting it to work in the Samsung browser.
- Open Samsung Internet. Launch the browser from your Galaxy phone’s app screen.
- Open the browser menu. Depending on the version, Samsung shows a menu button with three horizontal lines or a Tools button represented by three vertical dots.
- Tap Ad blockers. This opens the compatible blocker list for your installation of Samsung Internet.
- Review an entry. You may be able to tap the app name for its description or other details before installing it.
- Install the blocker. Tap the entry’s install or download control and complete the Android installation prompts.
- Check the Installed list. Samsung says a newly installed blocker is automatically turned on and added to this list. Confirm that its switch is on; if it is off, tap the switch to enable it.
Samsung’s support wording is explicit: “Once the Ad blocker is installed, it will be automatically turned on and added to the Installed list.” Still check the switch after installation, especially if you have changed browser settings or restored the phone from a backup.
Samsung allows more than one blocker to be installed. In most cases, start with one that meets your needs. Stacking several filters can make it harder to diagnose a broken page, and the browser does not require multiple blockers for the feature to work. If you later try another blocker, disable the first one while testing so you can tell which app affects a page.
How to choose from the list
There is no documented universal “best” blocker in Samsung’s support material. Make the decision using information visible on your own Ad blockers screen:
- Availability: Choose an entry that is offered for your device and region. Samsung says compatible content blockers are third-party apps certified for Browser.
- Price: Samsung notes that some blockers are free and others cost money. Check the current listing and app details before installing; do not assume that an app is free because the menu is built into the browser.
- Documented controls: Read what the publisher says the app can filter and which settings it exposes.
- Compatibility: The listing in Samsung Internet matters more than whether an app is advertised as a general Android blocker.
- Single-filter simplicity: Begin with one installed blocker. A second filter is optional, not a requirement, and can make troubleshooting less clear.
Listings, names, descriptions, and prices can change. Treat the information shown on your phone as the current availability for your installation rather than relying on an older screenshot or a recommendation made for a different region.

- Open Samsung Internet and tap Menu.
- Tap Settings.
- Open Privacy dashboard.
- Turn on Block pop-ups.
This setting targets pop-up windows. It is distinct from the broader filtering performed by an installed content-blocking app, so readers who want fewer interruptions should use both controls. If a page opens a new window even after the switch is enabled, that does not necessarily mean the content blocker is malfunctioning; the page may be using a different advertising or navigation technique.
See what Samsung Internet reports as blocked
Samsung Internet’s privacy area can display counts for blocked material, including categories such as ads and trackers. To view it, open the browser’s Tools menu and tap Privacy.
The privacy view can also expose controls related to warnings about malicious sites and blocking automatic downloads. A displayed count is a report of what the browser or blocker identified, not a promise that every ad, tracker, or pop-up was removed. Do not use the number as a performance percentage or as proof that a page is completely ad-free. There is no universal blocking percentage supplied for this setup.
Counts can also differ from one page to another. A news page, a login page, and a site with no detectable advertising will not necessarily produce the same categories or totals. Use the dashboard as a diagnostic view, not as a score by which to rank blockers.
Understand the limits of Samsung’s ad blocking
It works inside the supported browser
Adblock Plus, for example, states that its Android product works only with Samsung Browser. Its documentation says it does not block ads in other browsers or in apps such as YouTube, games, or social media. That limitation also illustrates the general rule: a Samsung Internet content blocker filters browser pages within its supported scope; it is not a phone-wide ad filter.
This means opening the same website in another browser can produce a different result. It also means installing a listed blocker does not change advertising delivered by an app that has its own content, video, or advertising system.
It does not clean the Galaxy home screen
If advertisements appear on the home screen, lock screen, notification shade, or inside unrelated apps, changing Samsung Internet’s blocker is unlikely to solve the cause. Those ads may be produced by an app installed on the phone rather than by a web page open in Samsung Internet.

It may affect site behavior
Some websites continue to show ads, detect a blocker, or fail to load an element that the filter removed. A blocker can also interfere with sign-in widgets, video players, comments, payment forms, or other page features. Blocking reduces unwanted content, but it is not a guarantee that every site will behave identically to an unfiltered page.

It is not a security cure-all
The Privacy dashboard can provide warnings about malicious sites and controls for automatic downloads, but those functions are separate from ad filtering. Keep the browser and phone’s normal security protections in use, and do not treat an ad-block count as proof that a page or download is safe.
Temporarily disable a blocker for one website
When a page is broken or a site asks you to turn off filtering, use a temporary diagnostic approach:
- Return to Samsung Internet’s Ad blockers screen.
- Turn off the installed blocker’s switch.
- Reload the affected page and check whether the missing feature returns.
- Turn the blocker back on after testing if you want filtering on other sites.
This test helps distinguish a filtering conflict from a problem with the site, network, or browser. If the page remains broken with the blocker off, the blocker was not the only cause. If the page works only when filtering is disabled, you can leave the blocker off while using that site or look for a setting in the blocker that changes its filtering behavior.
Do not permanently disable all privacy controls just because one page is incompatible. Test the smallest change first, reload the page, and restore the blocker when you finish.
Why the menu or blocker is missing
Your browser version uses different labels
Samsung support pages depict the browser menu differently across instructions: one version may show three horizontal lines, while another describes a Tools icon with three vertical dots. Look for the browser’s main menu or Tools menu, then search for Ad blockers and Settings. A changed icon does not necessarily mean the feature was removed.
The app is available, but a particular blocker is not
Samsung’s FAQ says Browser is available on Galaxy phones running Android 5.0 or later. That broad compatibility statement does not establish that every listed blocker is available on every device, Android release, or region. Use the entries that actually appear in your own Ad blockers screen. If a named blocker from an older article is absent, choose from the current list rather than trying to force an unrelated installation.
The listing changed
Third-party developers can change an app’s name, price, description, or supported versions. Recheck the current listing before installing and avoid assuming that a blocker shown in an older guide will still be offered on your phone.

You are looking in the wrong menu
Block pop-ups is under Settings > Privacy dashboard; it is not the same screen as the installable Ad blockers list. Conversely, the list of compatible blockers is not a phone-wide setting in Android’s general Settings app. Check both locations when you are trying to reproduce the complete setup.

When ads appear outside Samsung Internet
Ads outside ordinary browser pages require a different investigation. Samsung’s guidance points to a recently installed or updated third-party app as a possible cause and recommends checking the phone in Safe mode.
- Record where the ad appears. Note whether it shows on the home screen, over another app, in notifications, or only on a web page. This distinction tells you whether to keep troubleshooting the browser.
- Review recent changes. Check apps installed or updated shortly before the ads began. Give particular attention to apps added just before the first interruption.
- Use Safe mode. Safe mode helps determine whether a downloaded app is responsible because third-party apps are disabled while it is active. Follow your Galaxy model’s current Safe mode procedure.
- Compare the result. If the ads stop in Safe mode, a downloaded app becomes a likely cause. If they continue, the browser blocker is unlikely to be the solution and you should continue with device-level troubleshooting.
- Remove the suspect app. If the ads stop in Safe mode, uninstall or otherwise address recently added apps one at a time, starting with the most recent.
- Return to normal mode and recheck. Confirm whether the unwanted ads have stopped after the suspect app is removed.
Do not expect a Samsung Internet blocker to remove advertising generated by another app. If the ads persist after reviewing recent installations, continue with Samsung’s device-security and app-troubleshooting guidance for your model.

A practical setup checklist
