For camera and microphone, also check the operating system’s privacy controls if access continues. These are separate layers: Windows can block hardware access broadly, while the browser controls what an individual site may request. Blocking a permission can disable game features that depend on it.
What a browser permission block actually does
A browser game cannot normally use a camera, microphone, or precise location merely because the page is open. It must request the protected capability, and the browser must have permission to grant that request. You can save an allow or deny decision for one site, set a broader default, or block access at the operating-system level.

- Site permission: applies to the game’s web address in a particular browser profile.
- Browser-wide setting: controls how that browser handles requests from many sites.
- Operating-system setting: can prevent the browser or other applications from using the camera or microphone at all.
- Hardware and drivers: the device must still expose a working camera or microphone for a capture request to succeed.
Location needs an extra qualification. Blocking the browser’s precise-location permission prevents the site from receiving the location supplied through that mechanism. It does not make every form of approximate geolocation impossible; a site may still estimate a broad area from network information such as an IP address.
These controls are independent of anything you might attach to the computer. A webcam cover can obscure a lens, but it cannot stop microphone capture or location requests, so no physical accessory is required for this task.

Choose the narrowest block that matches your goal
| Goal | Best control | What it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Stop one game from using one capability | The current site’s permissions panel | That game domain in the selected browser profile |
| Stop all new camera or microphone requests in Firefox | Firefox’s “Block new requests asking to access…” option | Future requests from sites until you change the setting |
| Set a default for sites you have not configured in Safari | Safari’s “When visiting other websites” menu | Unconfigured websites on Safari for Mac |
| Stop Edge from sharing precise location through its location service | Edge Location settings, including “Ask before accessing” | Location requests handled by Edge |
| Prevent a browser or other desktop software from using the camera or microphone | Windows Settings > Privacy & security | Device access more broadly, not just one game |
If you only distrust one game, use the site-specific method first. A device-level block is more disruptive because it can affect meetings, recording tools, accessibility features, and other applications.
Chrome on a computer
Block the game that is open now
- Open the game’s website.
- Select the site-information icon to the left of the web address.
- Choose Site settings.
- Find Camera, Microphone, or Location, then select the blocking choice for the capability you want to deny.
- Close the settings page. Chrome saves the change automatically.
If the panel offers Reset permissions, use it to remove the customized decisions for that site. Resetting is different from blocking: it clears the saved choice so Chrome can ask again when the site next requests access.
Review Chrome’s camera and microphone lists
- Select the three-dot menu, then open Settings.
- Go to Privacy and security > Site settings.
- Select Camera or Microphone.
- Review the allowed and blocked site lists.
- For the game’s entry, change the setting to block it, or remove the entry to make Chrome ask again later.
Chrome’s permission choices can include Allow this time, Allow while visiting the site, and Never allow. Choose the deny or never-allow option when the aim is to stop the game from requesting the device again. The exact wording can vary with the Chrome version or a policy applied by an administrator.

Chrome can remove permissions from sites that have not been used recently. Google describes this as a protection for your data. That cleanup does not mean a site has been permanently blocked; if the game is opened again, Chrome may ask for permission unless you have an active blocked rule.
If the game is embedded in another page, check the address shown in the permission prompt and in the site-information panel. A permission saved for a parent page may not be the same as one saved for an embedded game origin.
Firefox on a desktop computer
Block a saved site entry
- Open the Firefox menu and select Settings.
- Choose Privacy & Security.
- Scroll to Permissions.
- Select Settings beside Camera or Microphone.
- Locate the game’s domain, set its status to Block, and save the change.
Firefox documents camera and microphone controls here. The same desktop permissions page is not a location-control guide, so use the browser’s current-site controls for location when Firefox presents that permission.
Block future requests more broadly
In the camera or microphone permissions dialog, enable Block new requests asking to access your camera or Block new requests asking to access your microphone. This prevents new prompts from sites that do not already have a saved decision. It is useful when you want no site to start asking, but it can also stop legitimate calls and recording tools from prompting.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesUse the current-site permissions panel
- Keep the game page open and select the permissions icon in Firefox’s address bar.
- Find the camera or microphone status for that page.
- Change it to Block if it is allowed.
- If you select the X beside an allowed or blocked status, Firefox clears the saved decision. The site will ask again on the next visit rather than remaining blocked.
If the page does not show a prompt, open Page Info > Permissions, clear Use Default for the relevant device, and select Block. The Firefox app’s hardware permission on Android or iOS is a separate, device-level setting; it is not the same as the per-site desktop procedure above.
Firefox warns that blocking camera or microphone access may prevent a particular feature or the entire site from working. That result is expected: blocking changes what the page is allowed to request, not merely whether a prompt is displayed.

Safari for Mac
Deny camera, microphone, or location for one game
- With Safari open, choose Safari > Settings.
- Select Websites.
- Choose Camera, Microphone, or Location in the sidebar.
- Find the game site in the list and select Deny from its menu.
Safari provides Ask, Deny, and Allow choices for these website permissions. For sites you have not configured individually, set the When visiting other websites default in the same category. That default is broader than the game-specific entry and can affect every unlisted site.
From the active game page, you can also open the Page menu and choose Website Settings to reach the site’s controls. The documented menu path here is for Safari on Mac. Do not assume the same labels or site-level workflow on iPhone or iPad. Apple also notes that privacy-sensitive camera and microphone settings are not shared across Apple devices, even where other website settings may sync.
If you later want to test the game, change only the one site’s choice to Ask rather than changing Safari’s default for every other website.
Microsoft Edge
Block camera or microphone for one game
- Open the Edge menu and select Settings.
- Go to Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All sites.
- Select the game’s domain.
- Set Camera and/or Microphone to Block.
You can also open the information or permissions menu beside the address bar while the game is open and change the relevant site permission there. If the game uses more than one address, check each domain or subdomain that appears in Edge’s site list.
Block precise location
- Open Settings.
- Go to Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All permissions > Location.
- Turn off Ask before accessing to prevent websites from requesting precise location through Edge, or leave the global setting on and block only the game from its address-bar permissions menu.
Edge normally asks before a site requests precise location. Windows can estimate location from signals such as an IP address, nearby Wi-Fi access points, and GPS data when available. Turning off Windows location settings therefore does not guarantee that a website cannot infer an approximate area; the Edge permission controls whether Edge shares precise location through its location mechanism.
Use the global Location setting only when you want Edge to stop asking every site. For a single game, the address-bar menu is easier to reverse and less likely to interfere with maps, delivery services, or other sites that need location.

When a game can still reach a camera or microphone after its site permission is denied, or when you want to prevent every browser and desktop application from using the hardware, check Windows’ privacy controls.
- Open Settings.
- Choose Privacy & security.
- Select Camera or Microphone.
- Review the switches for device access, app access, and desktop-app access.
- Turn off the level that matches your goal, or leave the global access enabled and verify that the browser is permitted only when needed.
Windows’ controls apply more widely than a single game-site rule. Even when Edge is enabled in Windows, the game still needs Edge’s site permission. Conversely, disabling Windows access can stop Edge and other software regardless of what their website settings say.
Desktop applications do not always appear as individually named entries in the Windows list. Windows Hello may also use a camera for sign-in even when ordinary app access is disabled. Those behaviors are separate from a browser game and are reasons to choose the narrowest effective setting.

If the game still appears to have access
Check both permission layers
For camera or microphone capture, verify the game’s browser entry first, then verify Windows’ Camera or Microphone page. Edge’s capture requirements treat operating-system privacy settings, browser site permission, and hardware-driver availability as distinct prerequisites. A failure or permission at any one layer can change the result.
Confirm that you changed the right site
Permission decisions are tied to a site origin. A game may load its main page on one domain and request media or location from another. Reopen the address-bar site-information menu on the page making the request and inspect the exact entry. Do not assume that blocking one related domain automatically blocks every other domain used by the game.
Expect a feature to stop working
A blocked permission can prevent a game feature from working, and in some cases the page itself may not function as intended. Camera-based controls, voice chat, motion features, or location-based content are examples of capabilities that may depend on permission. If the game fails after a block, restore the permission only for that site and only for the capability you need.
Consider management policies
On a school, workplace, or family-managed computer, an administrator may control camera and microphone settings. A locked or instantly reverted browser choice is a sign that policy may be overriding your change. In that situation, the administrator must change the policy; repeatedly changing the site menu will not create a permanent exception.
Remember that a blocked prompt is not proof of zero data collection
Camera and microphone blocks concern those protected device APIs. A game can still receive ordinary information that web pages routinely expose, such as the page’s network connection details, unless separate browser or network controls limit it. In particular, denying precise location does not prevent every approximate location estimate based on an IP address.
How to restore access later
Use the same browser-specific panel and change the game’s status from Block or Deny to Ask (or the browser’s equivalent default), then reload the page. In Chrome, removing the saved site entry makes Chrome ask again. In Firefox, selecting the X beside the saved status clears the decision and causes a new prompt on the next visit. In Safari, change the site’s menu from Deny to Ask or Allow. In Edge, change the domain’s Camera, Microphone, or Location setting in its site-permissions page.
If Windows access was also disabled, return to Settings > Privacy & security > Camera or Microphone and re-enable the appropriate device, app, or desktop-app switch. The browser and Windows settings must both permit access before a capture request can succeed.
Restore only the capability you need. For example, voice chat may require a microphone but not a camera or location. Leaving the other two denied preserves their separate protections.

A practical privacy check before reopening the game
- Identify the exact game domain shown in the address bar.
- Block only Camera, Microphone, or Location as needed instead of disabling unrelated capabilities.
- Check the browser’s saved site list for an older allow decision.
- For camera or microphone concerns, inspect Windows’ broader privacy setting as a second layer.
- Remember that precise-location blocking does not eliminate approximate location inference from network information.
- If the computer is managed, determine whether an administrator controls the setting.
- Reload the game after changing a permission so the page obtains a fresh decision.
- Test other sites afterward if you used a browser-wide or Windows-wide block, since meetings and recording tools may also be affected.
Frequently asked questions
Can I block only one browser game without affecting other websites?
Yes. Use the current site’s permissions panel in Chrome, Firefox, Safari for Mac, or Edge and change only that domain’s Camera, Microphone, or Location entry. Avoid browser-wide defaults and Windows switches unless you want a broader block.
Does denying location stop the game from knowing where I am?
It stops the browser from supplying precise location through its location permission. It does not guarantee that the site cannot estimate a broad area from an IP address or other network information.
Why can the game still use my camera after I blocked it in the browser?
Check Windows’ Camera privacy page as well as the browser entry. Operating-system access, browser permission, and an available camera driver are separate prerequisites. A managed computer may also enforce a policy that overrides your choice.
What is the difference between “Reset permissions” and “Block” in Chrome?
Block saves a denial for the site. Reset permissions removes the customized decision, so Chrome can ask again the next time the site requests access.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What happens if I select the X beside a Firefox permission?
Firefox clears the saved allow or block decision. The site can ask again on a later visit, so selecting X is not a permanent block.
Are Safari’s Mac instructions the same on iPhone or iPad?
No. The menu path described here is for Safari on Mac. Do not assume that iPhone or iPad offers the same site-level controls, and remember that Apple says camera and microphone privacy settings are not shared across Apple devices.
Should I use a webcam cover or microphone accessory?
No accessory is needed to deny browser permissions. A webcam cover affects only the lens and cannot block microphone or location access. Browser and operating-system settings address all three capabilities more directly.
Can a school or employer prevent me from changing the setting?
Yes. Browser and Windows settings can be managed by an administrator. If a setting is unavailable or reverts immediately, ask the administrator rather than repeatedly changing the site panel.
