There is no single “good” rate for every company: SaaS Capital’s 2025 survey found that median growth declined as ARR increased, while its newer 2026 summary reports a 22% overall median for 2025 without an ARR-stage breakdown.
Start with a like-for-like growth measure
Before comparing percentages, define what you mean by growth. Specify whether you are measuring revenue or annual recurring revenue (ARR), the start and end dates, and whether the rate is year over year. Then use the same definition and period for your company and the benchmark.

The stage-specific figures below are year-over-year growth medians from SaaS Capital’s 2025 report, describing 2024 results. The report surveyed more than 1,000 private B2B SaaS companies. They are observations from that survey—not targets, forecasts, or a guarantee of what a company at a given ARR should achieve. Read SaaS Capital’s 2025 growth benchmark report.
Find the median for your ARR band
ARR is the most directly supported way to select a comparable stage in this data. SaaS Capital’s 2025 survey reported these median year-over-year growth rates for 2024:
| Company ARR | Median year-over-year growth |
|---|---|
| Below $1 million | 40% |
| $1 million–$3 million | 28% |
| $3 million–$5 million | 24% |
| $5 million–$10 million | 24% |
| $10 million–$20 million | 20% |
| Above $20 million | 20% |
These are survey medians for private B2B SaaS companies, not a forecast for your business. Early-stage rates can vary sharply, and the table does not control for every possible difference between companies, such as geography, vertical, or business model. Treat the closest ARR band as a useful reference point, not a perfect match.
Use the right benchmark year
Benchmark figures can describe different periods even when they appear on pages published close together. SaaS Capital’s 2025 report gives ARR-specific medians for 2024. Its 2026 summary reports a newer overall median: 22% growth in the 2025 survey, down from 25% in 2024, based on more than 1,000 private B2B SaaS companies. That summary does not provide the same ARR-specific breakdown, so the 22% figure should not be presented as a 2025 median for any one ARR stage. See SaaS Capital’s 2026 growth-rate summary.
Rank #2
The 2026 summary also reports 20% median growth for bootstrapped firms and 25% for equity-backed firms in its 2025 results. These funding-type figures offer another comparison lens, but they are not interchangeable with the ARR-band medians from the prior report.
Read the median and percentiles differently
The median describes the midpoint of a surveyed group: half of the reported companies grew faster and half grew more slowly. It is a benchmark for typical performance in that cohort, not a minimum acceptable rate or an aspiration.

Percentiles answer a different question: how fast were the companies nearer the top of the distribution growing? SaaS Capital’s 2025 report says a $2 million ARR company needed more than 50% year-over-year growth to reach the top quartile, while the top-quartile threshold for a $20 million ARR company was 31%. A high-performance threshold therefore depends on company size; it is not a universal success bar.
Make the comparison useful for your company
- Calculate your own rate consistently. Choose revenue or ARR growth, establish the comparison dates, and calculate the year-over-year rate. Keep the definition consistent when you compare it with the survey.
- Select the nearest ARR band. Use the band that matches your company’s scale rather than a SaaS-wide headline number. If you sit near a band boundary, consider both adjacent medians as context rather than claiming a more precise match than the data supports.
- Compare with the median first. This tells you how your rate relates to typical performance in that size cohort. Use percentile data only when you specifically want to understand the upper end of the distribution.
- Label the period and population. Identify the figures as 2024 ARR-band medians from SaaS Capital’s 2025 survey, or as 2025 overall results from the 2026 summary. Both refer to private B2B SaaS companies, but they are not the same cohort breakdown or time period.
- Use the result as context, not a verdict. A gap from the median is a reason to investigate what differs in your business, not by itself proof that performance is healthy or unhealthy.
Use retention as a companion measure
Growth is easier to interpret alongside net revenue retention (NRR), which reflects recurring revenue retained and expanded from existing customers. SaaS Capital’s 2025 report found an association between NRR and growth: companies in the 100%–110% NRR range had five percentage points higher growth than those in the 90%–100% range. This is a correlation in the survey, not proof that raising NRR by itself causes a particular increase in growth. The report does not establish that the relationship will apply equally to every ARR band or company.

Know what the benchmark can—and cannot—tell you
- It can provide a size-aware reference. ARR-band medians are more informative than one growth target applied to companies at very different scales.
- It cannot make every company directly comparable. The reported figures are for private B2B SaaS; they are not universal benchmarks for consumer subscriptions or all software businesses. SaaS Capital also cautions that comparing smaller private companies with public companies can be apples to oranges.
- It does not control for every business difference. The reviewed results do not establish a full breakdown by geography, industry vertical, or business model.
- It is not a goal-setting rule. A median describes surveyed performance, while a top-quartile figure describes a higher point in the distribution. Neither automatically defines the right plan for a particular company.
