Short answer: There is no verified way to beat The Hunt in Phantom Blade Zero yet. The game has not reached its announced release date, and the official material available before launch does not reveal The Hunt’s phases, attacks, tells, damage windows, or required equipment. What is confirmed is The Hunt’s role in Soul’s story and that the confrontation occurs near the beginning of his journey. A reliable walkthrough will require testing the retail game rather than guessing from trailers.
Why a verified The Hunt walkthrough is not available yet
As of October 16, 2026, Phantom Blade Zero remains unreleased. The official announcement and gameplay overview identify The Hunt as an important early opponent, but neither document gives the information needed for a genuine boss guide. There are no published attack strings, phase transitions, parry timings, stamina rules, recommended weapons, healing requirements, or confirmed punish opportunities for this encounter.

That distinction matters because cinematic footage can show the setting and story context without showing how the encounter behaves in a playable build. A trailer may use edited camera angles, scripted animation, or a demonstration version that does not represent the final balance. Treat any page claiming exact inputs or guaranteed openings before launch as unverified unless it identifies testing in the released game.

Soulframe Liang, founder and chief executive of S-GAME, describes The Hunt as one of Soul’s former comrades. The official pre-order-trailer announcement says Soul crosses blades with The Hunt during the opening moments of his journey. This establishes The Hunt as both a story-linked character and an early-game combatant, rather than a late optional encounter whose location or unlock conditions are already known.

The wording also leaves important details open. It does not name The Hunt’s weapon, explain the character’s combat style, state whether the fight is mandatory, or say how the confrontation ends. Those details should not be inferred from a short trailer appearance.
What the official material actually confirms
| Confirmed point | What it tells players | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| The Hunt is one of Soul’s former comrades. | The encounter is connected to Soul’s personal history. | The Hunt’s motives, allegiance, moveset, or boss mechanics. |
| The pre-order trailer shows Soul crossing blades with The Hunt during the opening moments of his journey. | The confrontation is presented as an early story event. | The exact mission, arena, win condition, or whether the scene is a complete boss battle. |
| The announcement mentions battling enemies atop a speeding wagon. | Wagon-based combat is part of the game’s showcased action. | That The Hunt duel takes place on the wagon. |
| The gameplay overview describes multiple difficulty choices. | Players can select among different intended challenge profiles. | Which setting is easiest, safest, or most effective specifically for The Hunt. |
The source for the first three points is S-GAME’s PlayStation.Blog announcement from August 11, 2026. Its most useful sentence is: “Battling enemies atop a speeding wagon and crossing blades with former comrades like The Hunt are just the opening moments of Soul’s journey.” The sentence places both ideas in the opening of Soul’s story, but its grammar does not prove that The Hunt is fought on the wagon.
Is The Hunt fought on the speeding wagon?
That remains unconfirmed. The announcement mentions two pieces of action in the same sentence: enemies fought on a speeding wagon and Soul crossing blades with former comrades such as The Hunt. It does not explicitly connect those events into one encounter.

When does Phantom Blade Zero release?
The announced release date is October 29, 2026. The official announcement notes October 28 for the United States and select regions. PlayStation’s official listing identifies Phantom Blade Zero as a PlayStation 5 title and carries the same announced launch timing.
Because the publication date here precedes that launch, no retail-build result can honestly be presented as a tested The Hunt strategy. Regional release timing can also affect when players gain access, so a guide updated after launch should state the platform, region where relevant, and game version used for its testing.
What the difficulty settings tell us
The official gameplay overview names two difficulty descriptions that are relevant to planning, but not enough to predict the outcome of this particular fight:
| Difficulty | Officially described focus | What remains unknown for The Hunt |
|---|---|---|
| Wayfarer | Intended for players who want to enjoy the story. | Whether The Hunt has reduced health, slower attacks, longer defensive windows, or any other encounter-specific adjustment. |
| Hellwalker | Features more advanced, adaptive enemy intelligence. | How that intelligence changes The Hunt’s behavior, timing, damage, or phase structure. |
The descriptions support a comparison of accessibility and enemy behavior in general. They do not support calling either setting the recommended choice for The Hunt. A post-release guide should record the selected difficulty and compare observed differences instead of turning the labels into assumptions.

Why trailer footage cannot supply a boss strategy
Several kinds of information a player needs are absent from the pre-release sources:
- Attack recognition: No official frame-by-frame list identifies light attacks, heavy attacks, grabs, projectiles, or delayed strikes.
- Defensive timing: There is no verified timing for blocking, parrying, dodging, or any recovery animation.
- Phase rules: The sources do not say whether The Hunt changes behavior at health thresholds or after a scripted event.
- Damage and durability: No health value, stagger threshold, resistance, or damage multiplier has been published.
- Loadout requirements: No weapon, skill, upgrade, consumable, or build is identified as necessary.
- Failure and retry conditions: The material does not explain checkpoints, cutscene skips, arena boundaries, or whether the encounter can be abandoned.
Without those facts, a list of button presses would be speculation. Even an apparently simple recommendation such as “parry the third hit” could be wrong if the trailer is showing a scripted sequence or a different build.

If you want to turn this pre-release status into a dependable walkthrough, use the following verification process after you can play the retail version:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Record the test conditions. Note PlayStation 5 model if relevant, game version, difficulty, and whether the encounter is played from a fresh save or a later chapter replay.
- Locate the first mandatory encounter. Confirm the mission name, preceding objective, and whether the fight can be skipped or revisited. Capture the exact point at which The Hunt appears.
- Map the arena. Check for walls, ledges, moving platforms, wagon hazards, scripted camera changes, and boundaries that affect dodging or positioning. Do not label it a wagon battle unless the fight itself occurs there.
- List every attack. Record the visual or audio tell, range, hit count, tracking, recovery animation, and whether the move can be blocked, parried, or avoided.
- Test defensive responses separately. Use controlled attempts to distinguish a normal block from a perfect-timing counter, and verify whether a dodge remains safe against delayed or tracking attacks.
- Measure punish windows. After each attack, test which actions are safe before The Hunt recovers. Record whether the opening changes by difficulty or phase.
- Check phase transitions. Repeat the fight at different health thresholds and after scripted events. Note any new attacks, arena changes, healing, or interruption of the player’s controls.
- Test reasonable equipment choices. Compare the tools available before the encounter, but only claim an item is required if the fight cannot be completed reliably without it.
- Repeat the winning route. A tactic belongs in a guide only after it works consistently under the stated conditions, not after a single lucky attempt.
This process produces useful instructions without overstating what one difficulty, platform, or patch proves. If a later update changes timing or enemy behavior, the guide should identify the new version and explain which steps are affected.

How to judge a post-release guide
When searching for help after launch, look for evidence that the writer actually played the encounter. A trustworthy guide should identify the mission, platform, difficulty, version, and conditions under which its advice was tested. It should show the order of attacks or phases, explain the tell for each dangerous move, and distinguish a guaranteed punish from an opportunity that depends on positioning.
Be cautious with pages that recycle pre-release trailer language, present the wagon as the arena without showing that connection, or promise a “one-minute” method without naming the build and difficulty. A guide can be useful without covering every possible setup, but it must state its limits so readers do not mistake one tested route for a universal rule.
What players can prepare for now
Before release, preparation is limited to understanding the story context and choosing how you want to approach the game’s difficulty options. You can expect The Hunt to appear near the opening of Soul’s journey and to matter to the narrative because of the character’s former-comrade relationship. You cannot yet choose a verified counter-build, memorize a reliable sequence, or know whether the encounter uses the wagon setting shown in promotional material.
