The item hand-in—not just the kill—is the progression step walkthroughs describe.
Start the piranha quest on the Forest island
Find the woman by the lake on the Forest island and speak with her to activate the Leech request. The walkthroughs describe Leeches as pickups on the ground or in grass, not fish to catch with your rod. Gather three and return them to the quest giver.

After you hand over the Leeches, take the special bait she provides. Guides use different names for it, including “Leech Bait” and “Modified Leech,” so check the item name shown in your inventory rather than relying on one guide’s wording. The bait is the route to initiating this encounter; do not substitute a store lure.
Choose a practical loadout
The route evidence supports bringing a ranged weapon you can use reliably, enough ammunition, and room to move. No single weapon is established as a mandatory requirement. Some walkthroughs recommend a shotgun against the boss, while another account describes different successful weapon choices.
#1 Best Overall
- Our Let's Go Fishin' game is the original version of a well-known and well-loved fishing game that parents will remember playing as kids
- Gameplay helps develop hand-eye coordination
- Players use mini fishing poles to try to catch the most fish
- Features a rotating pond and fish that open and close their mouths
- For 1-4 players, ages 4 and up
- Weapon and ammunition: use a ranged option you handle comfortably and bring enough ammunition to avoid running short during the fight.
- Movement space: start where you can move without being hemmed in by terrain or nearby small piranhas.
- Optional healing: one older guide suggests cooked fish, but it is not established as a requirement.
- Explosives: one guide warns they can cause self-damage in this encounter. Treat that as a caution, not a confirmed universal rule for every current build.
Fight the Giant Piranha
- Use the quest bait to start the Giant Piranha encounter.
- Keep moving and attack the boss when you have a clear route. This is published strategy advice, not a guaranteed mechanic.
- When smaller piranhas crowd you, block movement, or interrupt your attacks, deal with them and then return your attention to the boss. Some guides suggest melee for small fish, but that is a tactical recommendation rather than a required choice.
There is no evidence-supported universal weapon winner. In choosing between your available options, consider how consistently you can damage the boss at range, whether you have enough ammunition, how quickly you can handle nearby small fish, and whether your approach leaves a clear lane for movement.
Pick up the Skeleton and complete the hand-in
After the Giant Piranha falls, collect the distinct Giant Piranha Skeleton and return it to the same woman by the lake. Check that the hand-in registers and the next-island progression appears. If it does not, confirm that you picked up and delivered the named Skeleton rather than assuming the boss kill alone completed the step.

Why older boss-health numbers may mislead
An August 2026 guide gives the Giant Piranha 2,500 health, but that is an older figure, not a verified current stat. A September 2026 guide reports that Patch 1.0.12 rebalanced the Piranha and does not provide replacement health, damage, spawn, or co-op scaling values. The exact current health and the direction or size of any change are therefore not established here; plan around the quest route and fight tactics rather than a fixed health total.
