Stay beside or behind him, use short attack strings, roll away from pink floor warnings, and stop attacking when he moves to the arena’s center. When lava rises, climb the temporary platforms and grapple every overhead node until the arena drains; only then return to offense. Buy any combat upgrades you want before entering the Volcanic Approach, because the Tinker Stall cannot be revisited until Guayota is defeated.
What you need before entering the Volcanic Approach
The only preparation requirement established for this fight is economic and logistical: visit the Tinker Stall before committing to the Volcanic Approach and purchase any combat upgrades you already want. Nerd’s Chalk reports that the stall is unavailable until after Guayota is defeated. Entering without shopping can therefore leave you unable to obtain an upgrade when you decide you need it.

Available guidance does not establish a required player level, mandatory weapon, specific charm, minimum number of healing vials, or compulsory skill unlock. Those details should not be treated as requirements. Choose the equipment you are already comfortable using rather than rebuilding your character around an unverified recommendation.
Preparation checklist
- Visit the Tinker Stall before the Volcanic Approach.
- Buy desired combat upgrades before crossing the point of no return.
- Use a familiar weapon and charm setup; no mandatory loadout is documented.
- Expect to win through positioning, short punish windows, and hazard awareness rather than a prescribed damage threshold.
The fight’s central rule: survive first, attack second
Guayota punishes players who remain in front of him or continue a combo after the arena becomes dangerous. Begin from a side angle, ideally beside or behind the boss, and keep enough room to roll away from warning markers. Attack only during a brief opening, then reset your position. A short string that ends safely is more valuable than a long sequence that leaves you in front of a snap, inside a blast ring, or on the edge of rising lava.
#1 Best Overall
The encounter repeatedly asks you to make one of three decisions: whether Guayota is safe to approach, whether a floor warning requires an immediate escape, and whether the arena has entered its lava route. Your damage output matters, but the practical decision axes are positional safety, the current lava sequence, and whether Guayota is recovering from a committed attack.
Guayota attack patterns and the correct response
The following responses are based on the visible tells described by the available boss guides. They are intentionally expressed as reactions rather than exact timing windows: the sources do not publish frame data, fixed damage values, or guaranteed hit counts.
Frontal snaps and close-range danger
Guayota’s front is the least reliable place to stand. Circle toward either side or move behind him instead of holding a frontal position for an extended attack. If you are already in front when the animation begins, prioritize getting clear rather than finishing your string. Re-enter from a side angle after the motion has ended.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThis positioning also gives you a cleaner escape route when a floor marker appears. A player directly in front may have to roll through the boss or retreat through the warning area; a player at the flank can move laterally and preserve space.
Pink circles on the floor
Small pink circles indicate an imminent stomp or incoming hit. Roll clear as soon as they appear. Do not wait to see whether the circle is centered beneath you, and do not use the warning as an invitation to squeeze in one more attack. The marker’s purpose is to give you an escape cue; treat it as a movement command.
After the roll, avoid immediately returning to the same spot. Reposition to Guayota’s side or rear and check the floor again before attacking. This prevents a second warning from catching you during recovery.
The large pink ring
When a larger pink ring expands around Guayota, move or roll backward beyond its edge. The guide associates the ring with a blast, so remaining inside the circle is unsafe even if you are close enough to land a hit. Once the blast has passed, approach from a safe side angle rather than running straight through the center.
If the ring appears while you are already beside Guayota, a backward roll is the simplest response. If your route is blocked by the arena edge, move laterally first so you do not trade the ring for the outer hazard.
Fire breath and fire shots
Keep moving laterally while Guayota breathes fire or launches fire shots. Attack only after the animation passes. Standing still to maintain a combo makes the fire pattern harder to read and can place you in the path of a follow-up floor warning.
Lateral movement is preferable to a panic retreat because it keeps you near a flank without asking you to cross the boss’s front. Once the fire has ended, take a short punish and then return to a neutral side position.
Charge and wall crash
When Guayota commits to a charge, move out of his line rather than trying to trade. A successful avoidance can cause a wall crash, creating one of the clearer recovery opportunities in the fight. Attack his side or back during that recovery, then disengage before the next pattern begins.
If the charge does not produce a wall crash, the same rule still applies: stay out of the line, wait for the committed movement to finish, and use only the safe recovery you can identify. Do not chase him across the arena while the floor is filling with warnings.
Slam and other committed attacks
For a slam or another heavily committed motion, evade first and punish second. The opening after the attack is deliberately short in practical terms: take a compact attack string, then reset. The sources do not provide a guaranteed number of hits, so stop when the recovery window stops being obvious.
Lava at the arena edge
When lava reaches the outer edge of the arena, survival outranks continuing a combo. Move away from the hazard and preserve a route to the next raised platform. A few missed attacks cost less than being trapped by the flood or forced to cross dangerous ground.
How the lava and grapple sequence works
The most important transition occurs when Guayota moves to the center and lava begins to rise. This is not a normal damage phase. Stop attacking, look for the raised platforms, and begin climbing. The objective is to travel upward and grapple through the overhead points around the arena until the lava drains.
Step 1: Recognize the transition
Guayota’s move to the center is your signal to abandon offense. Do not wait for the lava to cover a large portion of the floor, and do not spend the opening trying to complete a combo. Turning toward the platforms immediately gives you more time to choose a safe route.

Step 2: Take the nearest safe platform
Jump onto a raised platform as soon as one is available. If the flood starts before you reach one, use the nearest safe platform rather than crossing the floor to pursue a pickup or a more distant route. Nerd’s Chalk notes that platforms appear with a short delay, so a brief pause to identify the closest safe landing is better than rushing into lava.
Step 3: Continue upward
From the first platform, continue through the elevated route. Keep your camera and movement oriented toward the next safe surface and the overhead grapple point. The fight is temporarily a traversal challenge: Guayota is no longer your immediate target, and the arena itself is the threat.
Step 4: Grapple every overhead node
Use the overhead grapple points in sequence until the arena drains. The September guide describes successive device sequences of three, then two, then one. Treat those as route stages rather than as optional collectibles: skipping a node can leave the lava active and strand you on a lower platform.

Step 5: Ignore off-route rewards during the flood
Do not detour for an off-route pickup while the lava is rising. The priority is staying alive and completing the grapple route. You can return to damage dealing only after the arena has drained and Guayota has returned to a punishable recovery or neutral position.
Using recovery windows for reliable damage
Guayota is most vulnerable after a committed movement has finished. Wall crashes, slams, and other recoveries can give you a safe side or rear angle. Enter, perform a brief attack string, and leave before the next warning appears. This rhythm avoids the most common failure mode: converting a successful dodge into a greedy combo that ends under the next attack.
A practical attack loop
- Start beside or behind Guayota instead of directly in front.
- Watch the floor and the boss animation before committing to an attack.
- Take a short melee opening when he is recovering from a crash, slam, or other committed motion.
- End the string early if a pink circle, large ring, fire animation, or charge begins.
- Reposition to a side angle and repeat.
This loop does not depend on a particular weapon or damage number. It works because it keeps your character available to respond to the next tell and prevents the boss from turning your attack recovery into guaranteed damage.
Complete encounter procedure
Use this sequence as a repeatable plan rather than trying to memorize a fixed phase script. Exact phase thresholds and flood timing are not published, so the visible cues matter more than a timer or health percentage.

Common mistakes and how to correct them
Staying in front to maximize damage
Symptom: You are hit by frontal snaps while trying to finish a combo.
Correction: Start every approach from a side angle and disengage when Guayota turns toward you. The fight rewards access to his flank more than uninterrupted contact.
Rolling only after a pink circle activates
Symptom: A stomp or incoming hit lands during your attack recovery.
Correction: Treat the appearance of the circle as the cue to roll. Do not wait for the impact animation.

Symptom: You remain inside the blast even though you reacted to the warning.
Correction: Move or roll backward beyond the ring’s edge, then return through a side route after the blast.
Continuing to attack when lava rises
Symptom: The floor becomes unsafe before you reach a platform.
Correction: Cancel your offense as soon as Guayota moves center. Identify the nearest safe platform; platforms may appear with a short delay, so do not cross the floor blindly.
Chasing an optional pickup during the flood
Symptom: You leave the safe route and get trapped by lava.

What is not officially quantified
Nerd’s Chalk explicitly says that Guayota’s exact health, damage values, and fixed flood timing are not exposed. The September fan guide also reports that the studio had not published a boss roster or patch notes as of its update and describes gameplay from September 2026 release-version footage. Because of that, avoid claims such as “the boss has exactly this much HP,” “the flood starts at this percentage,” or “you can always land this many attacks.”
Those omissions do not prevent a reliable strategy. They simply mean the fight should be read from animations, warning markers, arena position, and recovery states rather than from an assumed spreadsheet of thresholds. Later patch status is unverified in the available material, so behavior can change if the game is updated.
Where Guayota fits in Duskfade
Creative Bloq’s July 30, 2026 interview describes Duskfade as a 3D action-platformer and reports a planned August 13, 2026 release for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. That date and platform list come from a pre-release interview, not current retailer inventory, so availability and editions should be checked for your territory.
The interview connects Guayota to a mythical deity originating from Tenerife and said to reside inside Mount Teide. Duskfade’s visual direction was also described by art director Diego Redondo Gonzalez, who said: “PlayStation 2 graphics are timeless, they still look amazing, and that’s something we wanted to do for our game’s graphical style,”
